Hello, the Tindle that I am researching is John Tindle, from Barren County, Kentucky, born about 1800. I have had very interesting information from the Tinnell list on Rootsweb, which seems to be a variation of the Tindle name.

I would like to hear from anyone who may be able to give me information about the Lucas family from Monaghan County & Cavan County Ireland. My William Lucas born abt 1786, married Margaret Telford born abt 1786. They immigrated to Canada. They had 8 children and I believe that 6 of them were born before they went to Canada.

Seeking information on Owen Caulfield and two brothers (one perhaps named Charles) who left County Monaghan about 1859 and to come to America. Owen settled in Pennsylvania and spent the rest of his life there. They supposedly had a place in the county.

USA County Marriage Applications, Etc.

To help pin down more information:

See if they (or their children) filled out a circa turn of the century USA county marriage application (not certificate). Not sure of the entire time span. This is a little-known, wonderful resource, as they contain much data on the parents of the bride and groom including addresses!

Enlist the help of the USA county historical society in the area in which they settled. They may be able to help you obtain documents such as wills, marriage applications, land records (which give last place lived) etc. for a donation to their society. Be sure and subscribe to their periodical first, extremely interesting reading and it will demonstrate your interest in their USA county.

Obtain an old USA county book via free interlibrary loan with the help of your reference librarian; many individuals are recorded because they were early settlers, were schoolteachers, held political office or belonged to particular religious, fraternal, or agricultural organizations.

If you have a death date, you can order microfilmed copies of USA newspapers for the two days following death via your reference librarian; she has books that tell her which newspapers were in business in particular years for particular locations. This is also via free interlibrary loan. Death notices and obits. are usually on different pages so check carefully.

The microfilmed 1900, 1910, and 1920 USA Federal Censuses at your local LDS Family History Center give date of immigration, whether naturalized or alien, date of naturalization, in addition to everything else!

Ancestry.com has inexpensive booklets containing old city directory data for many states. These can fill in the gaps left by the loss of nearly all of the 1890 USA Federal Censuses.

I found much information on my family in all of these resources.

Jean, if your James is connected to the one mentioned in Pamela's e-mail, he is found on the 1860 Iowa Census in Girad, Clayton County. His mother, Nancy, and brother, Thomas are with him. And - right above them is their brother George and family. I have seen the name 'Haislett' in another Iowa Census. If this is your James, I'd love to hear from you. Thx, Ann

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I am looking for a George Higgins from Monaghan Co. and came across a census in Phila. Pa. 1850 where a George Higgins was living with a family of Hasletts. Very hard to read so there may be some mistakes. Samuel 46, shoemaker, from Ireland, Sarah 40, John 22, born in Penna. Mathew 21, a salesman, born in Pa., David 17, shoemaker born Pa., Andrew 10, L--- age 6, Harry 11/12 born Pa., then there is Robert Thomson 18, shoemaker born in Ireland, Thomas McClay 30, also shoemaker, Ireland, George Higgins, shoemaker, Ireland, William Moore 48, shoemaker, Ireland, Charlotte Johnson 11, Pa., and Sophia Carr 17, Ireland. Hope this helps.

Hi Carol,
OK I am methodist and from Monaghan. My family were Methodists since 1770 and it was a small connection at that time.
Maybe I can help.
