Surnames: BEGGAN / BAGAN
I was reading old posts' here & saw someone mention FELIX BAGAN and recalled I saw the name somewhere in my BAGAN genealogy. A Julia SMITH died in 1888 in Mn, Fillmore county and the Death Register list's her father as Fellix BAGAN and her mother's name as Elizabeth.
Our BAGAN line started out as BEGGAN & they were from Rosslea. I know nothing more about Felix other then this.

Hi John,

Thanks so much for your message. I don't think that is
the right Thomas Morgan, however it may be a help to
know just where the Morgans were. My grandfather
Thomas Morgan was born around 1862 and according to
information I have he was taken from Irelandto the North of England
by an Aunt Bridget when he was around 8. He was in the
military and I find him in Yorkshire in the 1891 census
married to my grandmother in 1890. The marriage cert.
shows his father as Thomas working in the same place.
Anyway thanks again for your help. I am waiting for the
1901 census to become available to verify that the was
indeed born in Ireland.

The landowner survey was completed in 1876 and first published in a London book that same year. At that time Catherine Goodman, address Lisduff, Ballybay, owned slightly more than 5 acres in Co. Monaghan valued at 4 pounds even. For more info. regarding the locations given try the IreAtlas: http://www.seanruad.com/ I did not find a Goodman landowner of an acre or more listed in the Armagh list, but then most Irish owned less or nothing at all and their names would not appear here The Griffith's Valuation was taken in Co. Monaghan in 1858-60, and in Co. Armagh in 1864. The all-Ireland Griffith's CD or book would be another resource for you to look for your Goodman surname in Ireland. I think that Griffith's is also on line at some subscription websites, check Otherdays.com

Ann, I found your reference to James Hazlett in Iowa intriguing. I just came from a trip to Iowa on a geneological dig. I didn't have time for much research. I went to Oelweing, IA looking for my great uncles Samel K and Luther A. Hazlett. These were two of the sons of James Harvey Hazlett who homesteaded in Pleasant Valley, IA (near Elgin & West Union) in the 1850's. Supposedly he came to IA with his father (Samuel Kirk Hazlett). The land was part of payment for services in the war of 1812. Does any of this sound familiar?

Regards,
James Hazlett

PS James Harvey had another son Emmett who was my grandfather. He had a son he named after his father; James Harvey Hazlett b. 1893

I'm sorry. Our James' father was named George, and they came over from Ireland together -papa George dying on the way. They settled in Clayton County
