Jack - Saw that you research in Monaghan - we are searching for info on John O'Rourke and his wife Catherine (Doonan) O'Rourke. They lived in New Bliss in 1850 when my great grandfather Thomas was born - he was oldest of their 16 children - Thomas and some of his brothers came to America in the 1870;s - Catholic. We believe John had a brother Thomas Joseph O'Rourke who came to Iowa about the same time. We are also researching Dawson,Gregan.Lundy,Agnew, McLaughlin in addition to the above. Would appreciate any help you might give us.
Jim

OK the Parish of Killeevan is also at Newbliss. Newbliss has a fantastic record of producing highly successful business people - numbering the Wellworths Supermarket Chain, the Lipton Tea Empire and others among their people. I recognise the names you've listed as being from that area so if you send me more detail I'll try to help. Killeevan, Smithborough, Aghabog, Newbliss, Stonebridge & Clones are all notable Parishes / Districts / Villages in this area

Since this is the first time I used this message board I'm not sure you received my response. I would be interested in learning about any publications that describes the area in the 1850's.

Thank you for your prompt response; several times I have posted a messages but never got a responses. I didn't realize that their would be more than one Beagh Townland in Monaghan County so I failed to provide all the information I have. Some of this information comes from another individual who has the McGruders as common ancestors but did verify some information. He had been in contact with the parish priest of the Catholic Church serving the Carrickmacross (this was 1995) area & they found the marriage record as well as the baptism records of several of the children of Owen & Katherine including my grandmother. It was also stated that their were McGruders living in the area presently (spelled McGroder)

So I believe this would be correct for their location based on the information I have: Beagh Townland, Donaghmoyne Parish, County Monaghan. My understanding is that Carrickmacross is close by. I am trying to get an understanding of the area they lived with the goal of visiting Ireland again within the next two years. Thanks again

Yes, Derrins Townland is in the Parish of Currin / Killeevan / Aghabog which is around the village of Newbliss, Co. Monaghan. It is situated South of Lislongfield & Drumcrow, touches the Townlands of Creeran, Corragarry, Tullynample & Lurganboy. This quite near the village of Drum and a little further from the village of Newbliss. There are three other Townlands called Derrin, also in County Monaghan but not in the same Parish as Derrins.

Jack Thank you for the information
This could well be our Owen McGruder however I am aware that their were two other Owen Mcgruders who lived in Monaghan County & immigrated to US & settled in Chickasaw County, Iowa the same area my relative settled. I do know that our Owen McGruder left Monaghan County in 1872 or 1873 lived in Cork County; his eldest son Frank marriend in Cork Co & with his wife immigrated to US in 1876 to Chickasaw County; Owen & the rest of the family immigrated in 1882. I agree that all these McGroder are most likely related. Are you aware of a map or other description of the Beagh Townland were the lived.
