Patrick HAGAN was born in the Diocese of Cashel & Emly, Munster Provence about 1745. He married Jane Wilson in 1771. Any suggestions how I can identify his parents, his siblings and his children?

yes, contact Tipperary Family History Research at tfhr.org

the records of the diocese are closed, and TFHR is the only gateway to the information. You cannot hire a genealogist to look at them, and any copies that are in the national archives are also closed by request of the bishop. 1745 predates civil registration of birth and marriage by a century, so the parish records are the only way to go.

Irish Town

I'm researching the Bartautas Howe family. Bartautas Howe b.abt 1817 Ireland wife Margaret b.abt 1817 Ireland (no maiden name) and children William F, and Hannah came to America in 1847 and Settled in the Village of MacEdon, Wayne county, New York, USA. The only information I have obtained comes from the US census forms, which only mention their Country of origin and no town, or village is mentioned. While researching the oldest son, William, I ran across military papers for William's Army service during the American Civil War. William F Howe served in the 160th New York Infantry Regiment from 13 July 1863 to 13 July 1868.
Attached is the name of the town/village William F Howe was born in. Does anyone know of this town/village? I think the scribe that wrote down the information wrote it like it sounded and that's where I need the expertise of local researchers. Any help would be most appreciated, also if anyone knows of this family I would be grateful. I can provide more words from the same document if needed. Again thanks in advance.
Sincerely, GAFoltz

Re: DALY-CONNELL

I do not know of any county Cork connections in my "researched" tree. I also feel that if I could get past my latest stumbling block, I would probably find some branches in Cork. Many of the Daly clan began there.

Most of my darling Daly's were from Brosna, County Kerry. John (gosh, could it be any more common and I also belive his father was John as well!?) Daly married Catherine Connell (maybe O'Connell) somewhere near Brosna. John and Catherine, bless them both, were my great-grandparents.

If you can find a connection somewhere with those two dear souls, I will be happy to share info but Nora Daly nor Patrick Walsh's names have never popped up anywhere I have searched.

Three of John and Catherine's children settled in the Chicago area, perhaps that will help? One daughter, who married a Broderick remained in Brosna so we remain blessed with some stong Irish connections.

If you have not tried the LDS recordscenters, do so. They can be extreamly helpful. I do not belong to their church and was very reluctant to become involved in their church record keeping/family sealing system but found it to be very useful. I was able to locate their offical Irish census records with dates and details.

Locate the nearest LDS family center and give them a call. They will walk you through some starting steps and order films for you at a very small cost. It's a bit of labor but their records opened lots of doors for me and lead me to some new friends and lots of ideas.

You'll find your loved ones.

Never give up.......You're Irish after all!

Thanks Bonnie
My GGGrandfather Michael, son of Thomas and Honora also came to Australia . As a political deportee so the family history goes!
I did use the Tipperary Family History to find my GGgrandfather his parents and sibblings and they were very good. Going back further though is quite frustrating. I was in Ireland a couple of years ago and went to Newport but couldn't get a reply at the presbytery. I also had a look in the cemeterys, but had no luck there either. So I put them aside for a while. Now and again a reply like yours gives me the poke I need to get on with it again. Thanks Ha ha
Regards
Kathleen

My Great Great Grandfather, Thomas McGrath, born 1812 in Youghal-arra village, very near Newport. He married Jane Fletcher and they had eight children, many of whom emigrated to Australia during and after The Great Famine. He was probably related to your ancestor. I corresponded with Father Tim O'Brien at the church in Youghal-arra Parish and he said that Cromwell, the English "war lord", burned most of the Catholic records when he invaded Ireland in the 1700's, so it is very difficult to find records going back further than the early 1800's. I think some people have done it but you might have to consult an Irish genealogist to find out how. Some records may be kept in the national library in Dublin also.

Best of Luck,
Bonnie

I am looking for information on my gggrandmother and her son my ggrandfather. They immigrated to US in 1861-63 to PA, Illinois, and then Nebraska. Patrick returned in c.1871 and married Margaret McDonnald/McDonnell, then returned to PA. Patrick was born on 3/17/1842 in Kerry Ballyferritor region. Patrick's father was also Patrick I think and died around c.1851. I don't know Mary's birth date, but assume it is the same area. She had a sister, Honora, who married James Ferritor of the same region. Would like any info anyone can give. Thank you.
Hi Theresa,

My name is Linda(Hayes)Bolad. The possible port that Ellen (Nellie)may have travelled from is Cobh in County Cork. In those times it was also known as Queenstown. Lots of the ships docked in the USA before carrying on to Canada. Does not really make sense!I am originally from County Clare currently living in the USA.Your Michael Hayes was he born 28/September/1838? There are alot of blanks in my research also. Thanking you, Linda.

When I first read your message I thought perhaps the spelling had gotten mixed up in translation from Irish to English. I did a little bit of poking around in the last half hour and have found that there is a townland by the name of Ballard near Kilworth which lies between Mitchelstown and Fermoy (both in county Cork, but quite near the borders of both Limerick and Tipperary). Although i live quite near Mitchelstown, I haven't been living here very long and don't know all the townland names. However, if I meet any older people from around the area, I will ask them for you and let you know. Hope this helps.

Hello

It it good to hear from you.

I am trying to find a link between my three Gard brothers, William b.1816; John b.1819 or 1825 and Thomas, my ancestor b. 1823 who migrated to Australia from Cork. From family stories it would appear that there is a link to the line of Edward Gard, son of Edward and Margaret Shanahan but we are not able to establish how this is. I notice in the family tree posted at http://users.tpg.com.au/butlerj/Gard_1.htm
That Edward has an unnamed brother and I am wondering if this could be our ancestor and the link to the Edward Garde line.

Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

Clarrie.

I just obrained a copy of my ancestor's death certificate (Johanna Burns nee Long, 1866-1932), which was written in cursive handwriting, and difficult to read. It gives her place of birth as Ireland, and the town name as what appears to be "Balardus." I've looked and looked, and can't find an Irish town with that name, so I wonder if I'm misreading it. I believe her to be from either Cork or Limerick, and I've seen sources attach the town Mitchelstown, Cork to her, so maybe it's a place near there. Any help woud be greatly appreciated!

My Catherine (Kate) Hanlon married James Walsh and lived in Nursetown More. As 'Catherine Walsh' she's listed in Griffith's Valuation, page 35 , just above Michael Hanlon's name, a Horgan and a Fleming. On the same page, in Nursetown Beg, I see the Horgans and the Maurice Hanlon you mention. Catherine's son Patrick, his wife Elizabeth (Roche) and their young children emigrated in 1878-80 to Massachusetts. Patrick is my GGgrandfather. --Catie
