Hello Beth
My grandmother's Meier (Maier)and Ponto families were among the groups of Hungarians and Romanians who were invited into South Russia to farm and then went back to their homelands again after Catherine the Great Died and the laws governing them changed. I would like to make contact to find out if the info I have is right. Some of the family came to the Edenwold and Balgonie areas of Saskatchewan near Regin in the late 1880's to 1890's. Others, including my grandmother Lydia and her parents (Johannes Meier and Anna Ponto) and siblings along with aunts and uncles came in 1913. My problem is the generations before Jakob Meier (Maier) and Louise Brandenburger and the Johann Joaquin /Blumhagen/ and Charlotte /Reucknagel/ names. I have Jakob parents as being Johannes (Daniel) /Maier/ and Anna Maria /Tramnitzke/ but with all the spelling variation and misinformation out there, I am totally confused.
Mr grandparents Johan Mueller and Margariete? Manz came to Saskatchewan I think 1910 but these names are REALLY hard to trace.
Any help or guiding would be greatly appreciated. I read some of the other messages in this forum. I keep some unrelated same names in my database. I found more that i instance where my ancestors have married back and forth on both sides.
Sincerely Al
