Bodnar & Zakharuk Families - Piedykoutz, Bukowina

Searching for the ancestors and relatives of Alexander Bodnar born 1874, Michael Bodnar born 1881 and Ambrose Bodnar born 1883. They were born in Piedykoutz, Bukowina and they were the sons of George and Anna Bodnar.

These 3 brothers all immigrated to Canada. It is unknown when Alexander immigrated. Michael and Ambrose came to Canada in 1905 traveling first to Winnipeg, Manitoba and then eventually to Fort William, Ontario around 1907.

Michael Bodnar married Anna Sykyrnskoi (Shikirnski, Shycarynsca) on October 26, 1911 in Fort William, Ontario. Anna was born about 1893 also in Bukowina and she was the daughter of Peter and Sanda Sykyrnskoi. Michael and Anna had 8 children. Michael died on August 15, 1951 and Anna on May 5, 1943. Both are buried in Fort William, Ontario.

Ambrose is shown in the 1911 Fort William census with his brother Michael, but there is no information regarding him after that date.

Alexander Bodnar died on November 1, 1941 and was buried in Fort William Ontario. A letter regarding his estate said that he was survived by a daughter and it gave her name as Mariya Oleksandrivna Zakharuk, (nee Bodnar) and her residence as the village of Pejadikovzy of the Kizmansky District, Chernovezkaya Province. My mother received several letters from her between 1967 and 1971, the letters were all post marked Nepolokovtsy, Chernovitis Obl.

For several years, I have been assembling a database of the Bukovina Székely (Hungarians)from the parish records of Andrásfalva, Hadikfalva, Istensegits, Fogadjisten, and Józseffalva.

Many members of this group emigrated to the area around Regina, Saskatchewan, mostly during the period 1906-1914.

If your ancestors were Bukovina Hungarians, I probably have information on them.

I am new to these message boards so please bare with me...

I am so excited to finally have figured out the correct spelling of the village Shypintsi where my grandfather was from, let alone see that other people are researching the same village as me!

My grandfather Grigorij Invonovich Suliak moved to Canada 1929 where he then went by the name Harry Suliak.

I will be visiting the Ukraine for the first time and I am so excited to visit my grandfather's home town and I look forward finding out if I have any relatives still in the area along with passing along any information I have.

Can you find where is now (if it still exists) an archive with the name of the members of the catolic church from Arbore (Bucovina). My grandmother's proof of identity and also her entire family's papers were taken alltogether around 1944-1945 by the romanian germans who left Romania for Germany.
My grandmother is still living in Romania. Her maiden name was Burghardt or Burkhardt . Seven of her brothers established in Germany and others left later for Canada (somwhere in Saschatkewan)

Novoselica a town in Czechoslovakia in 1921?

I'm looking for information about a town called Novoselica which on a ship record is said to be in Czechoslovakia in 1921. I know parts of the westernmost Ukraine were included in CZ at the time and the only reference I see on maps is a Novoselica in the Ukraine just east of Chernivtsi/Cernovcy by the area of Bukovina. I'm wondering if this is that same place.

Unfortunately their names have been Anglicized so we are having a little difficulty. Our records show they were "John" Josef (later changed to Jessop) and Lena (nee Sanson). I am looking for anyone who may be related to my grandfather, Mike (Dmytro) and who took the last name of Hamaluk. Apparently his birth last name was Hamel or Hamill (this unknown is making this search very difficult). Both Dumitru and Magdalina came to the US in the early 1900's and settled in Lorain, Ohio. They lived in Radauti, Bucavina and traveled by ship to the US. Dumitru Rotariu changed his name to Daniel Rottari (Rotar). His brother's name was Stefan.

My husband's family came from Chernowitz, Bukovina. His grandfather came to Canada in 1914, left behind his wife and son. They came to Saskatchewan, Canada. in 1922. Nicholas Mandryk had perhaps four brothers and a sister,none of who came with him. I am trying to trace any relatives still living in Bukovina or cousins of Nicholas Mandryk who did come to Canada. I don't know his brother's names but some of their children did come to Canada. There are numerous Mandryks in Edmonton, Alberta, some may be relatives. Does anyone know where Kuhurmape, Bukovina, Austria is, or was, located in 1892. This is place of birth given for a relative who emmigrated to Canada in the early 1900's.
The Certificate of Canadian Citizenship indicates this individual was a subject/citizen of Austria and that his parents were subjects of Austria. I have been told this could be a Romanian/Ukranian town.
