Classification: Query
Surnames: Sterankovich, Sanga and Komeshak
Please send info. on any of the above surnames. City, village, address, phone numbers, first names, deaths, births. ANYTHING!! Some of my Dad's relation came to America about 1900 or before, not sure of the date. His mother ( Eva (Sanga) Sterankovich(she died 1928 age 43 ??in Glen Carbon or Maryville, Il.) my dad's mother madien name of Sanga. Eva had 3 brothers still in Austria when she died and one sister in Jermyn, PA. her name was Mrs. Anton Wartovnik--the funeral notice said Eva was born on 2/27/1890 in Stanley, Fawka, Austria. My dad's father Afton (he died 1957 age 70 ??in Alton, Il.) I never ever saw him or knew he was alive, until he died) Sterankovich)--They lived in Glen Carbon, Illinois, by Maryville, Illinois. and not far from St. Louis, Missouri. They had 5 children (William, Helen, John, Julia and Margie) Margie is the only one still alive and she does not know much because the children where put in a children's home and she may have been 3 yrs old at the time. Afton was a coal miner--maybe at the Donk Coal mine??? in Maryville or Glen Carbon, Illinois. Afton may have had a sister name Katherine (Kate) and maybe 1 brother. Kate married a John Komeshak, they lived in Maryville, Il. All of these people where from the Galicia/Galizien/Halychyna, Austria, Poland or Czech area--we do not have any other info. We got this from the USA 1920 and 1930 Census records and the last name, Sterankovich is spelled many different ways!! My father always said he was White Russian and Austrian. Thank you for any help, B. Bryant
