I am looking for any information available on my
Fliss family.
According to 1850
Iowa census,
Tobias Flees was born in
Prussia. He was living with his father Undrass
Flees and brother Undrass
Flees as well as his wife and children.
In other
Iowa USA census records, his surname is spelled
Fliss,
Flis,
Fles,
Flees.
The father Undrass
Flees gave his birth as Germany 1770.
The brother Undrass Fless gave his birth as Germany 1802.
Tobias gave his birth as
Prussia 1822
According to my grandmother's research:
Tobias
Fliss was born Nov. 17, 1822 in Frankfurt-on-the-Main,
Prussia. He married in Germany to
Sophia Fallberg (also Fahlberg). She was born in Seliz,
Prussia. Their first three children were born in
Dresden, Germany: William Henry
Fliss b. Feb. 14, 1843
Sophia
Fliss b. Nov. 17, 1845
Henry
Fliss b. abt. 1847.
They came to
America between 1847 and 1850, arriving in
New York, and taking a steamer up the river/canal to Chicago where they met their
German friends the Kaufmann's who had arrived in
America in 1847 and settled in
Iowa. The
Kaufmann family traveled back to
Iowa bringing the
Fliss family with them. The
Fliss family then settled on land adjacent to the
Kaufmann land.
In Sharon Cemetery, Sugar
Creek Twp.,
Muscatine Co., IA you can find Andrew G. Fliss (the brother Undrass with his name "Americanized") born 1804 died Oct. 31, 1879;
Tobias Fliss born 1822 died Feb. 27, 1888;
Sophia Fliss (wife of
Tobias) born 1813 died Dec. 23, 1897.
If anyone can help me find more information on the parents and other siblings of
Tobias as well as
Sophia Fallberg, I would VERY MUCH appreciate it. I need all the help I can get!!!!
