Hello!
I am trying to trace my great, great grandfather. I am told he was of Prussian aristocracy with either the name von Malotke or von Maltka (spelling may be off). He moved to Wisconsin in the Milwaukee area and the last name was Americanized into Malotke. He was also one of the early benefactors of the Milwaukee Symphony. There is supposedly a burial plot somewhere in what was Prussia for the family.
I'm searching for more data on the ancestors of my great-grandparents Paul Breitzke and Hulda Schulz. The details I have are as follows:

Paul Hugo Eduard BREITZKE, born Groß Hertzberg, Kreis Neustettin [later Kreis Köslin], Hinternpommern [Eastern Pommerania] in or about 1861. His father was Heinrich Breitzke, a farmer.

Hulda Auguste Rosalie SCHULTZ was born in or about 1862 in Hütten by Gellin, Kreis Neustettin. Her father was Wilhelm Schulz a miller.

Paul and Hulda emigrated to England ca 1880/85 [separately or together?]. They married on 25 December 1885 in the German Lutheran Church, Ailie Street, London E3, England

Paul had a brother or cousin, Gustav Breitzke. He married Louise Albertina LEHMAN around 1890 in London.

Descendants of the Breitzkes changed their name to BRIGHT around 1900-40.

Please let me know if you can help. Thanks
David A Lord
This is in the church register in Charleston, South Carolina. I believe this was spelt wrong and this to be the town of Simmern,a town in the Prussian Province of Rhine near Coblenz. He was German and a devout Lutheran. The "Alt" in German means old age" so perhaps they were saying in the old town of Simmern? He immigrated into the US and Charleston abt. 1847.
Can anyone shed some light on this European town?

My ancestor Hirrel Schmul (father Wolff Schmul b. abt 1750) b. 1770 Kurnik, Poznan, Poland married Lippmann Joseph Kottwitz b. 1764 Poznan, Poznan, Poland and died 1848 in Poznan city, so guess Hirrel lived in Poznan too. They had lots of Kottwitz kids, some of whom went to San Francisco and some to Houston, TX. I don’t have much more about Schmul. Arnold

I am trying to trace any relatives on George Norman born c1835 in Prussia. I have him first listed in Cambridge at 1 St John's Street he was 36 and a Tobacconist he lived there with his brothe Nathan who was a Tailor aged 26. They shared the hosue with a housekeeper Hannah Chapman aged 22.

The next time I find him in 9 Boot Lane Devonport and he is a pawnbroker 1871 census. MArried to Rose/Rosa they have children Louis D Norman and what looks like .
I have also found him married to another woman called rachel or Rae/Ray she was born in 1856 in San Frasico and they had two children Henry norman 1892 in Hampstead and Alfred N Norman born 1894 in Hampstead. I have not been able to trace anything more about this side of my family and I am desperate for any information. I am interested to know how he met rachel as she is an american.

I beleive that george's surname is not Norman I think he cahnged it when he moved to England. If anyone is any good at understanding handwriting then I would be really grateful if you could try and translate the name in the census for me.

It has a Griffin on it with the colors red blue and yellow. Fredrick Scherdin was born in Prussia in 1830, and had two sons by an unknown grandmother. Sons were Frank Scherdin b. 1864 and Daniel Scherdin b. 1869. Fredrick had two brothers Albert Scherdin b. 1835 and August Scherdin b. 1848.

Hello,
I am seeking information on a Wilhelm von Stein and Luisa Krone from Potsdam, Prussia. They had a son named Aguste or Agustin born 1828. They left the country sometime around 1845 to Mexico then to Texas. Some research has shown the name may have been vom Stein with a possible relation to Baron Karl vom Stein. Does anyone have information on the vom Stein family? Thanks, Cindy

Their marriage records were destroyed in the Great Chicago fire.

Wondering if anyone has heard of this surname? If so, is associated with any particular area of Prussia? Would be interested in hearing if there are any major databases that have baptismal records or the like posted from Prussia? Any info on how I can proceed would be appreciated.
-jill

I am interested to know if this name "duchneskie" is the original spelling. I have been unable to locate my ancestor in historical documents (with the exception of the 1900 US Federal Census). Joseph Duchneskie immigrated from Prussia to US in 1849. I have not been able to find him in immigration records; therefore, I do not know where in Prussia he is from. I do know he settled in Camden, New Jersey around 1880 ... where he was before ???

Perhaps I do not have the correct spelling as it would have been found in the "ol country" to do a proper search? Can anyone help me in learning more about this surname? Is it common? regional?

Thanks!
Cindy Straka

I am trying to find any information on my ancestors August Dallmann and his wife Albertina (Albrecht) Dallmann. They immigrated in Nov 1883 according to ship lists from Hamburg to NY. They list on the 1906 and 1911 censuses of Canada that they came from Reitzenhagen Prussia in 1872 (I can't verify this date). I would like to find out where and when they were married and their children, and where children born. My ggrandmother Bertha Dallmann came in 1884 with her younger sister Emilie. The remaining family appears to have come earlier. They settled in MI, then I lost August although I have found burial site for gggrandmother Albertina in MI.
I would appreciate any assist from anyone who knows where I should go next with such vague information. I haven't been able to locate any naturalization papers or even their religion, although the Canada census says they were "Salvation Army". Also my ggrandmother Bertha Dallmann shows on US censuses that she came from Berlin Prussia. I am rather at a loss. Thanks for any assist. Becky

Name spelled various ways on documents. What would have been the real spelling in Prussia?

Looking to work with others having problems finding Prussian (German) ancestors from "the Old Country". I am researching Wappler and (von) Elias surnames. Locations include in Michigan: Wayne County - Detroit; Houghton County - Calumet; Keweenaw County - Central Mine, Copper Falls, Eagle River, Eagle Harbor. In Wisconsin: Sheboygan County - Sheboygan; Manitowoc County - Libery & Eaton Townships (St. Nazianz); Calumet County - Charlestown. Minnesota: Stearns County - Spring Hill; Saint Louis County - Duluth.
The Elias family: Balthasar 1827-1878 and Nicholas 1832/3-1921. They were either brothers or cousins. Balthasar has decendents that moved to Kansas: Doniphan and Atchison Counties. Nicholas has decendents that relocated from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Wayne County - Detroit (Northwest side - Brightmoor neighborhood) between 1912-1920.
Gottlieb Wappler 1826-1867 has decendents that moved to Detroit post-1912 as well as Illinois - Cook County - Chicago in the mid-1880s.
My information before the U.S. is very limited but I do have information on the above-mentioned persons (Nic Elias and Gottlieb Wappler in particular) and would like to exchange information with others having this same problem.

My grandfather Eduard Henschel had a brother Wilhelm Frederich born 31 August between the years 1868 & 1871. I don't know why there wasn't a year. Born in Rozyszcze Volhynia. There were 11 children. Several of them emmigrated to Wisconsin. Their parents were Frederich Henschel and Elisabeth Sauer. I am looking for any information regarding these Henschel's.
Thank you, Sincerely, Dottie

(I guess she migrated to America.) If you have any info on her, her family, or where I can find obituaries or prussian records in specific, please let me know and reply to this.
