Skottnik family Rossberg/Beuthen

I am hoping to find out more about the family of Paul Skottnik born January 11th 1903 to Robert Skottnik and Anna Skottnik nee Nowak in 'Rossberg, district Beuthen'. He is my aunt's father. He married Hildegard Ursula Philipp in 1946 and they divorced 4 yrs later. They married at the Civil Registrar's Office in Gittelde on January 26th 1946.

Are there other spellings of Skottnik that I should be looking at? Where does the name come from - is it Polish or German?

I am looking for the Family of Joseph Kuchinski born March 15, 1861 to Math Kuchinski and Antonia Wrublesky. Joseph was in the German/Prussian army.
Joseph married Josephine Mazurek and had 2 sons while they lived in Colmar, Posen, Prussia before immigrating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in 1888.

Joseph is my great-grandfather and any information would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to look up information about Steffi Siebner?

She may have been born in Gleiwitz; on 7th September 1897.
She went to school in Breslau,and lived there until 1939.

(Steffi was one of (at least) three children: Stephanie, Kurt and Herbert. Kurt and Herbert served in the Austrian army in the First World War.Can these records be seen?)

They became German nationals in 1918 in Breslau -is there a record of this?

Can anyone confirm Steffi's parents names? - Heinrich Siebner and Natalie Siebner. (We’re not sure her first name was Natalie -it could have been something similar) (Heinrich and Natalie were both 20 years old when they married.)

Natalie had at least three sisters: Lisa Knoche, Clara ? and Paula Angres.Could details of their births be checked?

my mother died recently leaving me all the family documentation from pre war Oppeln. I am trying to find any more information about hte family before a visit next year. My grandfather was Adolf Gabrisch a Polizeiwachmeister. He was shot by the russians on the eastern front in 1945. He was born on 1893. My grandmother was hedwig gansera born in 1901. She was a refugee and ended living in Reinbeck nr Hamburg with her sisters Anna and Emilia. They lived on BLeichstaBe 19.Any body who knows anything aobut htem would be great

Reinhard Kleiner from Breslau, part of Silesia

Reinhard and Clara Kleiner, my great-grandparents, had seven sons, six of whom came to the United States between 1911 and 1926. Reinhard and Clara also emigrated to the US in 1926, but one son, Oswald, remained in Germany at their home in Breslau, which is now Wroclaw, Poland. I even have the address of their house at 24 Ottostrasse. Reinhard was born in about 1862 and before emigrating, he worked for the railroads, possibly as an engineer. Clara was born in about 1864, possibly in Massel, Germany. I would like to continue my reasearch but have come to a dead end. I would like to find the birth records for my great-grandparents and perhaps other family members. Perhaps I could find more out about Oswald Kleiner. Thank you for any help.

I am looking for information on a Feige family from Marklissa, Silesia, Prussia (now Lesna, Poland) in the 1800s.

Friedrich Wilhelm Feige married ?
They had a son Friedrich Wilhelm (or Wilhelm Friedrich) Feige born 07 Jun 1824 in Marklissa, Schlesien, Prussia. He married Augusta Amelia Theunert from Lauban around 1844 (probably either in Marklissa or Lauban).

The family came to New York, New York, United States on Dec 10, 1853 on the ship Donau. They settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States.

If anyone has any information on this family, please let me know. I have been searching for years. Thanks!

I am looking for information on a Theunert family from Lauban, Silesia, Prussia (now Luban, Poland) in the 1800s.

Johann Carl Gottlieb Theunert married Johanne Rosalie Mennig and had the following children: Augusta Amelia Theunert b. 4 Nov 1823, Lauban; Christiane Rosalie Theunert b. 6 Dec 1825, Lauban; Friedrich August Theunert b. 4 Jun 1828, Lauban; Mary Caroline Theunert b. 20 Oct 1829, Lauban. Some of the children came to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States around 1853.

I have found out that this area in now within the borders of Poland. Can someone tell me who I would need to write to in order to request records and information about my family. I just found an ancestor (TRAUERTS) in the Hamburg ship lists, but I can't make out the town name on the manifest. I've attached a image of the text in question - does anyone have any ideas?

The family (wife, 4 male children) were on the Westphalia out of Hamburg on 5/11/1881.

Dieno family from Schlesien to Russia

I know my Dieno ancestors were from Schlesien but where in Schlesien I have no idea. I know they were in Russia in the early 1800's.

Has anyone who has done research in the communities in Schlesien ever seen the Dieno/Dino surname??? Any help would help me reduce my searching. Seeing I have no idea where they came from I'll have to research records from every community and this may take a very long time.

Looking for grandmother's birth records. Her name was Hildegard Loehnig, born 17 Sept 1906 in Kanth, Schlesien, Germany. Her parents were August and Franziska Loehnig. Her father was a basketmaker. She was one of thirteen children. She came to the USA in 1925 with her older brother Bernhard Loehnig. If anyone can offer any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ludwig Kramer b.8Mar1855 in "Silberg Germany" from his Ohio Death Certificate Emmigrated to Ohio, married Marie Barbara Stang 1887 in Shelby County OH and lived in Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH and raised his family there.

From 1892 Maps of then Germany, the only Silberg appears to be Silberg, Schlesien, Germany and seems to be what is today Zabkowice, Slaskie, Poland.

Death Records say Ludwig Kramer's Father was Jacob Kramer and his Mother Marguartie Schwartz.

Help appreciated to confirm the geography and name changes.

Looking for location of Lüben ... in Schlesien?

I have an immigration record from Ellis Island (attached) that gives the last residence and birth place of Lüben for my great-grandmother Laura Bresse (or Briese), who married Carl Schallhorn. The record also gives a birth place for her husband, Carl Schallhorn, but I cannot read the script.

I am guessing that Lüben is in Schlesien, although, a google search turned up several possibiliites (listed below). I'd really appreciate if anyone can read the birth place of Carl (it might help me determine which Lüben to further search for records?), or I would appreciate any other information about possible locations of Lüben.

More immigration info includes: Ship name: S.S. Patricia; Date of Arrival in New York, June 08, 1907; Port of Departure Hamburg.

My mother recently passed away,and I would like to find out more about the region of Grunewald Silesia from which she was born. Also her family names of Kreisel(her mother's maiden name)and Exner(her stepfather's name).She used her mother's maiden name because of being born to an unwed widow in 1924. Polkendorf and Hermanseifen, Austria 1845-1882

The obituary for my gg-grandmother states that she was born in Polkendorf, Austria in 1847, and married in Hermanseifen, Austria in 1867. She and her husband came to the USA in 1882. The ship's record says "Origin: Bohemia." I have found references saying the Polish name for Polkendorf is Wojczyce, and Hermanseifen is Rudnik. Or Polkendorf is Bolkov in the Czech Republic. Or that it is in Schlesien, Germany. I'm so confused!
Their names were Joseph & Theresia (Lamer / Lamar) Hollmann. My great-grandmother, Maria, also would have been born there in 1868. (Ggg-grandmother's maiden names: Schneider and Berger.)
If anyone can help me understand where these cities are now, I would appreciate it!

Hi, I found one of my ancestor's birth village on a marriage record. I believe the village name may not be spelled correctly as I can find no information on the village under the spelling. The record states:

Blamenberg, Silchow, Schlesien

My ancestors name is Mathilda Petrick and she was born about 1830.

Are there records for war injuries? When he left Silesia for Berlin, where would he go to register that he was leaving?

Isidor's parents were Schaye Jesajas (Joshua) Freund born 1801 Myslowitz died 1880 Sohrau and Anna-Selde (Rosel) Staub. The Freund grandchildren married into the families of Proskauer and Stern, and are related to Otto Stern the nobel prize winner. Any information on the Guse or Schmiedek family...my grandmother was Franzsika (Schmiedek) Guse from Ribnick, germany/poland, lived in both Breslau and Brieg, died in August 1944..Not to much info on grandfather Hermann Guse except that he was in WW1& WW11. Looking for the birthplace of my g.g.grandfather, Wilhelm Feige, .b. 17 Sep.1849. His 1921 passport lists it as "Wyrskowie Slapsku" in Polish and "Wyrskos Silesie" in French. What would this place be named today? His wife, Wilhelmina's is shown as "Szeinwald Allemagne" (Schönwald (?) Germany.) Their children seem to have all been born in or near Bromberg, Posen, Prussia. Frederick William Kenny states on his marriage certificate, in Australia in 1884, that he comes from Fairwater Germany. I think I have established that Fairwater could be Schoenwasser which was called Wasserjentsch until 1937 and is now known as Komorowice. It is situated a little way south of Wroclaw in Silisia. He states that his parents were Richard Kenny and Johanna Poltik.

Problem is the name Kenny is not very German/Polish, I suspect it may have been changed from eg Kenne, Kinne etc.

Anyone got any ideas?

My grandfather was named Werner Christian Georg Klose (possibly Von Klose). He was the Schweidnitz 7th Infantrie Regiment commander during WWII. He disappeared shortly after the 20 July 1944 assasination attempt on Hitler, possibly because his higher commander was Col Von Stauffenberg at the time. I actually found his (and my mother's) original home (formally named Loretto Haus) in Schweidnitz (now Swidnica) last March. The house was apparently the Soviet headquarters for the area until shortly before the Wall came down. Unfortunately, because I speak very little German, and less Polish, I could not find any more information concerning the house or family. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather Wilibald Hugo Konrad born at Schrieberhau on 25th July 1874, where he lived until about 1899. His father was Hermann Konrad and his mother Christiane. Her maiden name was John. He came to England and married an English woman Sarah Emily Roberts, with whom he had two sons. They were Hermann Hugo Conrad {my father) and Ferdinand Emil. He was deported back to Germany in 1916, and he died at the Berlin Charitie Hospital in 1920. His family were still living in Schrieberhau at that time, but I believe they left and moved to the Black Forest area near Heidelberg. He was a glass worker and belonged to the Glassworkers Association of Germany which he joined on the 17th August 1893. His Receipt Book number was 4806. Schrieberhau was renamed Szklarska Poreba when that part of Germany was taken over by Poland in 1945. Please can anyone assist me to locate any surviving family members. Thankyou, Norman Conrad.

I have been able to find a little information on Schlesien but nothing on Zilz. Does anyone have any information on this place? I understand that Preussen is Germany but what are the other places mentioned?

My family originated in a small hamlet of Küpper, Silesia called Neu-Gablenz. It's near the larger cities/towns of Seidenberg, Schönberg, Lauban in SW Silesia.

Unfortunatley after the war, all the family records were lost destroyed when the Germans were forcibly evicted by the Poles/Russians.

If anyone has information on Neu-Gablenz/Küpper, previous research done in this area, or on the Geissler's it would be appreciated.

I have a photo of two young men, who I believe to be my great grandfather Gustave Frederick Reidel and his borther Herman.

Both are in uniform.

Gustav emigrated to the US in 1880 and Herman followed in 1882. They then sent for their parents and 3 sisters. I have photo's of them taken in the US and the earlier phot of 2 men in uniform could very possibly have been them.

Gustav's father, Frederich, was said to have been born in Silesia and his mother in Posen. Gustav was said to have been born in Leepankord, Posen, Germany on his US marriage certificate to Ernestine Wotke (who was siad to have been born in Koppce, Posen, Germany.)

I want to identify the uniforms.
Can any one help me find someone who may be able to identify an pre 1880- German uniform?

I need some suggestions. I've come to a dead end and just need any suggestions on where to look from people.

I've found information on my great grandparents after they came to America via census' and such, however nothing previous to then.

Here's the info (what little I have)

Franz Schneider was born in Schlesien, Germany Nov 21,1848. He married Anna Schafer Feb 09,1876 somewhere in Germany.

Anna Schafer was born to Philip Schafer Oct 29,1853 in Schlesien Germany as well.

Once married Anna and Franz had three children in Germany. Mary Schneider was born Sept 24,1871. Anna Schneider was born Nov 15,1876 in Boch,Prussia, Germany. Wilhelm Frederick was born May 08,1881 in Aachen Germany.

In Aug 1881 Franz and Anna moved to America and had 6 more kids.

Any ideas?

Edward BERGER was born ca 1830 in Frankenstein, Silesia, Prussia.

On his death his parents' names were recorded as Joseph BERGER and Johanna VOLKMER. Another family researcher tells me that on the marriage certificate his mother's name was something a bit different- Volkmuir, I think.

Edward arrived in Australia in 1853 on the ship Albinus from Liverpool in England. There were some other Bergers on the same voyage: Anton (aged 47), Ann (47), Anton (21) and Mary (13). There's a possibility they were all related; Anton senior was perhaps Edward's uncle, ie the brother of Joseph Berger.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any further information or is researching the same family. I am particularly interested in finding out more about Edward Berger's ancestors.

Leutmannsdorf records?

Looking for info on what records are available via LDS or other sources. I see on familysearch.org that there are some church records dating back to the 1600's, but there is a large gap from around 1800 to the 1880's. Are those records elsewhere, under another parish or jurisdiction? My great-grandparents Paul Zeps and Anna Jischke were from Leutmannsdorf; his father was August Zeps and hers was Johann Jischke (whose brother Franz came to the US in the 1800's). I know little else about the family there, except that Paul and Anna's family moved to Bavaria after Workd War II.

My grandfather, Johan Metzner, came to America from Selesia in 1888. His mother was Maria Ana Riedel and father was Florian Metzner. Don't know more than that. Does either name mean anything to anyone researching this area? Could someone name some cities in this region in the late 1800's? He spoke German. He was listed in the census as a shoe maker. He didn't seem to be interested in anything related to farming so I am guessing he was "a city boy".

I have no info on my grandfather except sibling names. They both died in 1990. I have searched for a dozen years on info to no avail. The only place names I have are Neiderschlesian, Oberschlesian, Glogau and Kreis Leipzig. I also know that my great-grandmother Anna Novak b. 26JUL1885 was one of 8 girls. LOOKING FOR CONNECTIONS ON BRAUNER FAMILY NAME. CATHOLIC LIVED IN WACHTEL-KUNZENDORF, JAGERNDORF, RATIBOR,WAISSAK, IN SCHLESIA. 1785- 1940's. SO FAR I HAVE COPIES OF DOCUMENTATION OF THE BRAUNER LINE BEGINNING WITH JOHANN BRAUNER AS THE FATHER OF GOTTLIEB BRAUNER AS FAR BACK AS 1793 IN THE TOWN OF WACHTEL-KUNZENDORF. GOTTLIEB AND WIFE, ANNA CATHARINA SCHOLTZ HAD 5 CHILDREN WHO ALL DIED. HE CATHERINA POLLACK, HAD FIVE CHILDREN, ONLY TWO SONS LIVED TO CARRY ON NAME. JOHANN JOSEPH AND FRANTZ. FRANTZ MARRIED JOHANNA PINKE, JULY 1835, HAD THREE CHILDREN- THE ONE SON CARL FRANZ,WHO MARRIED ANNA MARIA REIMANN/RAIMANN, THEY HAD 12 CHILDREN. THE OLDEST, EMIL IS MY GRT GRT GRDF. OF THE 12 CHILDREN A FEW LIVED. THE NAMES OF THESE CHILDREN ARE (EMIL), PAULINE JOHANNA, ANNA MARIA, FRANZ #1, FRANZ#2, ROBERT PAUL, MARTHA, MARIA BERTHA, PAUL & MAX (TWINS), JULIANA AND EMMA. Bonifaz and Maria (Neumann) Matuschke lived at 29 Augustrasse in Breslau for a number of years - at least between 1879 and 1914. He had eight daughters and one son and died between 1914-1926. He operated a beer garden and might have been from Schonwalde, Frankenstein Kr. where a number of Matuschke families lived in the 1800s. His grandson was Walter Matuschke, a book publisher in Germany during the 1950s. Any Matuschke info appreciated.

Dittersbarh, barengrund. Waldenburg. Do any of these names
mean anything to those of you who know Germany?

There are still family living in Germany connected to the Ansorge Krause family, I'm told, trying to find out where to
start looking.
