I am looking for Schmidts too who came form Romania.
The most famous happens to be my grandfather's cousin whose name was Joseph Schmidt. He was a world-famous cantor and movie star in Germany before WWII. HE performed in lots of synagogues in England and NYC. He was murdered in Switzerland before my grandfather could come and get him. I understand he left a wife and son in Begium where they live today.
I have seen the name Carolina in our family records. It has been popular in our family and I knew it came form somewherein Romania but I am still trying to put together pieces that don't want to fit and the Nazis really made a hash out of my family and their records. Alas.
