Hello, I am looking for any information on Penneys of New Perlican and Hickman's Harbor. Especially on a James Penney born 1854 in New Perlican, but eventually moved to Hickman's Harbor. He married Annie and had the following children Sarah Elizabeth who I believed married a Piercey from Winterton, John, Mary Hannah, George and Charles. Any information would be appriecated.

John Penney and Anne Snook. Anne died 2 years after James was born . James ahd five children George, Elizabeth (langer) Hannah(white) John and the youngest James... John Penney came to Nfld arounf 1809. Stories indicate that he fought in the Battle of Trafalgar.. He had a gold earing in one ear and he had a bayonet and a sea chest ..

The snooks were in New Perlican at leaset since 1757. They were one of the earliest settlers there..

Sorry the Penney's you are looking for I think are connected to the Carbonear Penney's .. Our Penneys can be traced back to JOhn Penney who came from Evercritch in England about 1807 1808..

I may have a bit of info. for you on Richard Augustus PENNEY.

He was b. in Carbonear, NL. about 1827 to Charles PENNEY & Elizabeth ASH.
On January 01, 1853 in Carbonear, NL. Methodist Church he married Louisa HORWOOD - b. 1828 in Carbonear, NL. to Richard HORWOOD & Mary MAHANEY.

Richard Augustus PENNEY & Louisa HORWOOD had at least two children that I have been able to find, as follows;

Dorcas - b. May 10, 1853 in Carbonear, NL.

Fanny Elizabeth - b. March 1857 in Silly Cove, Trinity Bay, NL. (now Winterton, Trinity Bay, NL.).

Richard Augustus PENNEY - d. before 1904 in Heart's Content, Trinity Bay, NL. as his wife is listed in McAlpine's 1904 Directory for Heart's Content, Trinity Bay, NL. as a "widow" of Richard A. PENNEY.

Richard Augustus PENNEY is also listed in the following Directories.

Hutchinson's 1864/65 Directory for Heart's Comtent, Trinity Bay, NL. as a "general dealer".
He is listed in Lovell's 1871 Directory for Heart's Content, Trinity Bay, NL.
He is listed in McAlpine's 1894/97 McAlpine's Directory for Heart's Content, Trinity Bay, NL. as a "fisherman".

I haven't been able to find when he or his wife died exactly
as they seem not to have a headstone as none is listed in the StonePics Data Base of headstones.

Doris, do you have any info on whether James Penney b. 1854 was married twice, besides marrying Annie Soper, or whether Annie was married twice??

There's a Geraldine who married Reuban Churchill from Trinity South Side, and she is the half-sibling of George Penney of Hickman's Harbour (1889-1937), who is James' son. I just don't know if Geraldine and George have the same father and different mothers or whether it was the other way around.

It could have been the other way around, that they had the same mother, but different fathers, because Annie Soper was about 10 years older than James Penney.

Annie was from Hant's Harbour, daughter of Jonas Soper and Sophia Brinson.

Children

They had 4 girls and 3 boys. I have no further info on them.
John Penney b.1882 Hickman's Harbor d. ?, married Lilly ?
and they had 2 sons, no other info.
Mary Hannah b. 1885 Hickman's Harbor d. 1915
George Penney b.1889 Hickman's Harbor d. 1937
Charles Penney b. 1891 Hickman's Harbor d.?, married Blanche ? b. 1903 and they had 2 girls and 2 boys. If you have any information on any of these individuals, your help would be greatly apprieciated.
