I am looking for information regarding the Coombs family John Coombs was my grandfather and died on March 1939. He is buried in Hearts Desire. He was married to Anastatsia George, born May 13, 1902, (she had a brother, Thomas George), my grandmother, who passed in July 1994. Anastasia was the daughter of Matthew George and Margaret Purcell. She is also burried in Hearts Desire.

John Coombs was the son of Helen and Thomas Coombs. Anastasia and John had 4 children Art, Annie, Ted and Searle. Searle died as a very young baby and is also buried in Hearts Desire. Art Coombs was my father and he passed in 1994.

I have just started this very small search with very little to go on. thanks to all.

Sorry, i am unable to help you, I don't seem to have relatives in the area, but keep trying, posting these notes have helped me with my search.

The Coombs, George, Lahey families in Heart's Desire seem to be related. I wonder if the Matthew George born (1852) who married Theresa Lahey in 1872 with children Ellen, Marg, Terry, Julia, Joseph, & Agnes was the same Matthew George who married Margaret Purcell abt 1896?
I also have a John Coombs of Heart's Desire who was baptized in 1889 as a son of Thomas Coombs & Elizabeth Fitzpatrick? Do you know if this is the same family?

Hi Leonard, thx for your response. I am going to try and ask my Uncle Ted Coombs (he lives in Carbonear), and is 80 yrs. old. He is John Coombs' son but they were separated when he was young and he may not know who is grandparents are. will let you know his response!

Hi, Try www.alden-bugden.com She has Coombs names on her HUGE site. I was able to get all my early NL ancestors from there. Also try GrandBanks NL site, and message board.
