Gosh, I don't know. I got Goose Cove from the 1921 census information but wasn't aware that there was more than one. I am Ontario born myself so it isn't something I would know. My guess is that it would be the one in closest proximity to Kelligrews where her husband was born but I don't know for sure. Thanks for the reply.

'uncle' Gerald always had a big gregarious smile and a sweet cigar. He and 'auntie' Belle were always so kind to us. I have many old photos which I'd be pleased to share. 'baby' Ken

They ended up having 11 children but was widowed around 1934. I have no other information about her, in fact I'm not even 100% sure she was a DOYLE. Any information on her or Augustus would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Amy

Reuban Churchill's father was - whether he was married to Annie SOPER or not, but what is clear is that Geraldine, according to an old family photo, was a half-brother of George Penney (1889-1937) of Hickman's Harbour, through their having the same mother, and different fathers.

Doris, do you have any info on whether James Penney b. 1854 was married twice, besides marrying Annie Soper, or whether Annie was married twice??

There's a Geraldine who married Reuban Churchill from Trinity South Side, and she is the half-sibling of George Penney of Hickman's Harbour (1889-1937), who is James' son. I just don't know if Geraldine and George have the same father and different mothers or whether it was the other way around.

It could have been the other way around, that they had the same mother, but different fathers, because Annie Soper was about 10 years older than James Penney.

Annie was from Hant's Harbour, daughter of Jonas Soper and Sophia Brinson.

Ian Roberts
ianroberts109@hotmail.com

Hello Vince - I married a daughter of one of William Bursey's sons, i.e. a granddaughter of Elizabeth Garland's. Elizabeth outlived 3 husbands: Moses Reid, William Bursey and Francis Pynn, all of New Melbourne, Trinity Bay. About 3 years ago Melissa D Matt was enquiring about an Abel Reid. My uncle (by marriage) Simeon Reid, a son of Moses, was a brother of Abel, and since I knew Simeon's family (he married my mother's sister) I was able to give Melissa the information she was looking for.

Lorne.

Hello Lorne,

I have the Garlands sisters' ancestry if you are interested. You likely know this already. They were the daughters of Jonathan Garland and Elily Jane Snelgrove of Lower Island Cove. Jonathan was the son of Thomas Garland and Elizabeth Snelgrove and Emily Jane Snelgrove was the d/o Abraham Snelgrove and Rebecca Wheeler.

Rebecca Garland married Hector Raymond MacNeil and they settled first at Whitney Pier and later at New Waterford Lake. They had a son Hector Raymond 'Raymond' who married Elizabeth Burke and they are my grandparents. My grandmother's sister Theresa married Allan Francis Reid who descends from Elizabeth Garland and her first husband.

Did you write on here that you are married to one of the daughters of Elizabeth Garland and William Bursey?

Vince MacNeil

I have a Mary Ann Reid who was born in Little Catalina 12 March 1843. She married Robert Stone. I think her parents were William and Sarah (Buckley) Reid of Lower Island Cove, but am not sure.

I also have a Caroline Reid, born about 1830 who married Abraham Stone and I think she was Mary Ann’s sister but am not sure.

I also have a Joseph (called Thomas) Reid, born 1831 in Lower Island Cove, died 1876 in Little Catalina, who married Charlotte (nee Stone). As far as I can tell, this Joseph (Thomas) was also the child of William and Sarah (Buckley) Reid.

I am descended from their daughter Minnie Jane Reid, born in Little Catalina 13 June 1869. Joseph and Charlotte’s other children were (all born in Little Catalina):

Elizabeth (Bessie) Reid
Phoebe Reid
George Reid
Thomas Reid
Josephus Reid
Helen Reid
John Reid
George Ephraim Reid

Hello.
I have posted in here before requesting information on Reid/Reed/Read families of Old Perlican. I know how these queries just keep piling up so I thought I would send out another fresh request.

The main focus I have is finding parents for my GGG Grandfather Joseph Reid.
He settled in Russell's Cove after marrying Mary Anne Clarke in Lower Island Cove in 1853.

I would like to know if anyone has Reid's or Reed's of Old Perlican from around 1800 and onward. Records show there were quite a few Reid/Reed/Read families in that area around that time.

Thank you in Advance for any information Sharing.

Clearly there are more than one Stephen March. Although you do not give the dates for your grandfather, I have a Stephen March of Old Perlican who is my 4th great grandfather. He was b. about 1734 based on his reported age at death, and he died in New Perlican 9th January 1812. All I know about him is that he had a daughter, Ann March, who married Stephen Knight probably on 21 July 1793. Their daughter, Ann March Knight, was b. 25 December 1799 and in 1819 married Cam Gyde Heaven of England, and moved to England. It has been suggested that she may have previously married a John Higgins. However, the names Ann, March, and Knight, in various combinations, are so common in New Perlican that it is not certain that the person who married John Higgins is the same person as the one who married Cam Gyde Heave.

Thanks for the tip about John & Martha. I am not really related to the Adeys -- one of my very distant aunts, Mary Short, born ca 1797, married William Adey, born ca 1792. Your Adeys would, presumably, be his kinsfolk; however, I am not sure how they are related.
Because of the complex relationship patterns in Nfld outports, instead of just researching my own Short family, I entered into my database as many people from the Hant's Harbour area as I could chain together. I now have over 6000 names and am happy to share them; however, because of early records that have been lost/destroyed (or no records ever created)I don't know how or if the four Short lines from that area are related, even though I can trace most of them back 200 years and I have many "orphans" I cannot connect with these four families at all! Better luck with your Adeys! Kim
