Thank you for your reply and a wealth of information. I was hoping to find some connection between Robert Burns and Thomas Burns. They were living together in Sydenham Twp. in 1861. Thomas birth was in Michigan in 1836. At that time his mother was listed as Mary and his father was James Burns. Thomas moved to Grey county without his mother Mary and married Priscilla Silverthorn. One of their sons noted on the death of Thomas that his father was Robert Burns and mother Penelope Byass. This is not unusual since he would not have known either mary or James Burns and also was living with Robert and Penelope. I wander if perhaps Robert and James were related since it seems too much of a coincidence that two families with the same last name would live together if not related.
