Seeking Info on John/Martha DENNISON, Glenelg mid to late 1800's

Searching for details/descendants of this family. In 1871 census John is head of household, 1881 Martha as a widow living with son John, a lawyer. John Sr. born c. 1809 in Ireland, Martha born c. 1812 in Ireland, possible maiden name McNALLY. 1874 marriage of John Dennison Jr., 29, son of John Dennison and Martha McNally to Lucinda DOUGLAS, 18 in Hanover. Concentrating on Martha Dennison's origins/parents/possible previous marriage c. 1838. Any help appreciated.

John McConnell, Mary Clark and their children

Does anyone have any info on John McConnell and Mary Clark? They moved to Peel County, Ontario in 1841 from Ireland (probably Co. Armagh). A few years later they moved to Euphrasia. The children that I know of are Nevin m. Mary Jane McConnell, John, Thomas m. Mary Fisher, Nancy or Ann McConnell m. Samuel McKnight, Alexander Ainsley Clark m. Mary Jane McCombs, and William m. Sarah McKnight. All of them were born in Ireland.

I would like any info I can get on John and his wife Mary Clark. I know when they were born and died. For their children I would like to know if anyone has a date of death for Nevin (I believe he died in Brampton between 1881 and 1891), any info about John, and the date of death for Nancy or Ann that married Sam McKnight.

I am trying to sort out some confusion with my paternal gggrandparents, and I have run into a snag.

I need to know the names and details of the people living with Paul Kingston, b. 1809 Ireland, RC, at the time of the 1871 census. As I can only access the index of heads and strays I am stuck. Is there anyone out there that has access to the full 1871 data, and would be willing to give this family a quick look and let me know. Or is there access to the full 1871 census data on the Internet, and I am just unaware of it?

Charles Rann Wilkes reportedly moved to Owen Sound about 1863 and became Clerk of the Division Court. Charles was also proprietor and editor of The Owen Sound Advertisor.

Charles was also reported to be on Town Council and in 1881 succeeded in consolidating the Town debts.

Any information on Charles Rann Wilkes would be greatly appreciated. I am attempting to fill in the family history of the Wilkes family and this would help. Thanks Murray

I am looking for the family of Duncan Bell, in the Census for 1891. In the 1871 Census Duncan was living in Osprey Twp. with his widowed mother Christina, his brother's Donald and John,and sister Flora. In the 1871 Census he was with his wife Sarah and daughters Anne and Catherine, in Proton Twp. with Sarah's father Neil McMillan, and her Mother, Catherine MacDonald. Both the Bells and the McMillans had emigrated from Tiree Scotland. In the 1881 Census Duncan & Sarah were living in Egremont Twp. with children Catherine, Christina, John, and Margaret, daughter Anne was living with her widowed grandfather Neil McMillan in Proton Twp..
I next found the family in Owen Sound in the 1901 Census, where son John was listed as the head of the household, also living there was his mother Sarah, sister Catherine and a brother Neil, Anne and Christina not listed as well as their father Duncan. Margaret was married to Willian Francis Edmonstone, and livind at Vails Point in St. Vincent Twp.

If anyone has seen this family in the 1891 Census, or has information on any member of the family, I would be very greatful in you contacted me.

I am looking for information on Euphemia (Effie) McKay who was born around 1852 in Harris, Scotland. The family moved to Grey County in 1862 or 63. Her parents are Finlay and Sarah (Marion) McKay. She does not appear with the family on the census of 1881 in St. Vincent. Two of the most obvious choices are that she died or was married. I would appreciate any information. Thank you.

The family had lived in Owen Sound, Ont. at the time of their death but they are not buried at the Greenwood Cemetery Owen Sound, Ontario .
The family were Presbyterian, members of St. Andrew's Church in Owen Sound.

I need some help reading the land map for Grey Co. My gg grandfather John McClelland homesteaded in Holland Twp., Grey Co. in 1849. He had Lot 19 Concession 2 NETS. I'm not sure what NETS stands for and would appreciate any help in referencing this to a geographical land mark. I believe it is not far from Holland Centre.

Anyone out there researching this family? I am attempting to help a friend find his Gr. Grandparents and the trail leads to Thomas Clark and his wife Ann Gauley of Holland Twp.

What we are trying to find out is if they had a daughter named Sarah born 1858 to 1860. Who married John Crawford. The Crawford family moved all over Ontario and never registred the birth of their children. The Clark / Crawford marriage cannot be found.

Hello everyone, I am looking for information on a Joseph A Hill who married Sarah Jane Fawcett in the 1870's in Grey Co.(possibly Thornbury) I have much info on Sarah's family but not much on the Hill's. Joseph was born somewhere in Ont. about 1851 and claims to be of Dutch ancestry. There is a Joseph Hill sr. and wife Mary living next to them in the 1881 census (his parents?) I recently obtained a copy of a newspaper article regarding my g-g-g-grandfather from the Owen Sound Sun Times dated 1936. The article states that he was working at the ship yard at that time at age 86. I believe he died shortly after in 1938, but have been unable to find record of his death. I am planning to be uop in that area in August and would love to stop by his grave, and obtain a copy of death record if possible.

Looking for information concerning Joseph Ellison born in County Down Ireland circa 1827. He joined two older brothers (David, Matthew or William?)in circa 1840. He settles in Grey County Ontario and raises a family. He marries Mary Cummings abt. 1857. Census show him in and around Thornbury, Angier, Collingwood and Euphrasia in 1871 and 1881 with family. He moves to Washington state in 1883. Details of the Canadian/Irish history remain vague.

John was supposed to have lived near Meaford and is there still. He may have been the second settler in the Meaford area, Walter Story being the first. I am very interested in where Johnson Marsh lived. I have no real idea other than I know where the township is. I am really trying to figure out how close the men were to one another. I have found locations of some of families the Marsh children married into. They were all in the SW corner of St. Vincent which borders Collingwood.

Old Public School Buried .. Flesherton

Just a short message to let people know that the old public built in Flesherton buried to the ground late last week. The building was built in 1891 and was a three room school. I don't believe any of my ancestors went to it but there may be some people on the board whose ancestors did go to the school. It certainly would have nice if the building could have been saved 20 years ago for historical purposes.

This is only something of interest .. while looking thru the Grey Cty web site this AM I noticed that they "might" be doing a second editon of Split Rail History of Artemesia Twp. Believe the years were 1985 to ?? (can't remember). I would be really nice if they could correct some of the errs in the first edition book but from my memory only most of those people have passed on.

John Barlow and wife Ann Newels were apparently in Normanby Twp. in 1871.
They lost two children in September of 1870.
John Edward Barlow d. Sept. 19.
Emily Barlow d. Sept 26.
Ann Newels Barlow and children Sarah and William are buried in Mountview, Galt.
John Barlow does not appear to be buried with them, and though in Galt at the time
of the 1881 census, a death reg. for him has not been found.
The family was apparently Church of England, but three baptisms have been found for
their children with Wesleyan Methodists.
They seem to have farmed in north east corner of Normanby.
Are they in A) Holy Trinity Church Cemetery in Durham, Glenelg, Twp., or
B) Durham Cemetery in Bentinck.
As well, is there a Thomas Barlow and family in either cemetery.

Looking for info on Alfred ALbert Hyatt and wife Jane Violet Hyatt living in Owen Sound starting 1901. Contact with descendants would be great. They had several children 1903-1910. He lived to 88yrs (died in approx 1962, buried in Greenwood Cemetery). He was previously married to Elizabeth Lucinda Hyatt in the period 1898-1901, possibly a cousin, who herself was previously married to Joseph Bailey, with children, living in Bentinck. I am looking for anything to help me locate her, Elizabeth Lucinda Hyatt (Bailey, Hyatt) as she disappears after 1900.

British Home Children sent to Stratford, Ontario - Frank and Fred Green

Hello,

I am hoping for more information on Frederick L Green and his brother Frank Green. They sailed aboard the SS Virginian from Liverpool, which departed May 13, 1914 and arrived in Quebec on May 21, 1914. They were among Mrs. Merry's party.

Frederick was 12 years old when he was placed with a Mr. Thomas Dawes, who was a florist, at 22 Falstaff Street, Stratford, Ontario. In l916 Frederick was an apprentice cabinet maker and in l918 he apparently enlisted in the RCHA in Kingston. A relative checked with the RCHA some time ago but they found nothing on him there.

Frank was 10 years old at the time of sailing, he was placed with a Mr. Skinner of North Keppel PO.?

Their mother was Elizabeth Ellen Green, it is believed she later remarried and became Elizabeth Williams. They had two sisters for sure with a possible third.

I am submitting this information on behalf of a relative of Frank and Frederick Green who resides in the UK.

If anyone can help me find more information on them or their families I would appreciate it very much.

I understand the Fligg family was/is very prominent in the area of Meaford, Ontario having first settled in Newcastle, Ontario from England before moving on to Meaford.
My gggrandmother was Mary Elize Fligg born 1831 in England, married William Lake in Newcastle, Ontario and is buried in St. George's Cemetery in Newcastle.

I have documentation that places Thomas Moran (died 1920)and wife Catherine Hewitt (died 1916) in Dornock R C Cemetery . I have reviewed a microfilm of the Grey Co Cemeteries and did not them listed in any of the Cemeteries there. I hope to find a listing of all of the people buried with them there. I have found a Thomas Moran(and wife Margaret Ryan) who I suspect is their son in St. Paul's Cemetery in Dornock. Any suggestions on how I can locate Thomas and Catherine?
I am also searching for a marriage record for Thomas Moran and Margaret Ryan to confirm their connection to Thomas and Catherine Hewitt. Thomas and Margaret had a son Richard Francis who marries Mary Catherine D'Arcy in 1939. Can anyone confirm the connection between the Thomas Morans?

Canada Entry Numbers?

We have located the entry numbers for our GG Grandfater and his brother into Canada. Since the arrived in Ontario between 1859 and 1862 these are pre 1865 entry numbers.

The numbers are Edward Kirk 3382892.

Henry Kirk 3382893.

Can anyone advise who issued these numbers? Were they assighned in Ireland? England or upon arrival in Canada? Where these records could be located?

Can anyone match them to a ship's name for us?

Can anyone tell me where in Egremont Twp John Eddie Kennedy and his wife Jean Burns settled? They arrived with their children between 1851 and 1853 from Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland and settled on a farm in Egremont.

Son Martin Kennedy stayed in the area and several family members are buried at Mount Gilead Methodist Cemetery
