Mott
Johanna Mott
Ashahal B."Asa: Mott m. Tabitha M. Roblinson

This folks were born in Thurlow and many died in Hastings county.... I have tried Ancestry. No, I think I'm already there...

Kathy Hastings-Hoeldke
ldyk171@yahoo.ca

I am doing an extensive ancestorial search on John Spry born 1806 and married to Elizabeth Neal born 1820. They had a daughter Sarah Spry born 1841 married to a Johnathon Barlow born 1841. It is my understanding that Johnathon came to Canada from England and settled in Hastings County with he and his children living in the surrounding townships. Sarah Spry and Johnathon Barlows, childrens spouses included the last names of MUMBY,COOPER,MASON,FROST,MCLEAN,BEATTY,BURKITT,ROMBOUGH,KENNEDY. I would like to hear from any relative no matter how remote that can help with my search. I am willing to share what I have.
Hi all

I have a stray that I cannot place into a family nor find any information on. A Catherine Barry/Berry.

Given there were Barry's in and around Madoc and Elzevir does anybody have her in their Tree. I would surmise she was born after the 1851 census as I cannot put her with any Barry family appearing on the 1851.

Lewis/Louis Love was born in 1875. His baptism in Madoc indicated his parents as John & Catherine Love.

Louis/Lewis Love then indicated on his marriage to Marcella Wickham in 1912 that his mother was Catherine Barry.

I cannot find the trail of this 'Catherine Barry' anywhere. No marriage of John Love to Catherine Barry.

And, given a young Lewis Love was living with his Grandfather on the 1881 Census and then with his AUnt, Catherine Love-Ferguson on the 1901, I assume Catherine Barry-Love, his mother, had died when he was a small child but I cannot find a death for a Catherine Love or Catherine Barry??

Anybody have anything to offer up on Catherine?

Cheers
Susan

Hello,

I'm trying to research information on Caleb Gilbert who was married to Eliza Donahugh. I found on ancestry.com a possible Caleb from Hastings County, ONT but have not been able to find anything via the internet. I believe Caleb to be born about 1850 because his daughter, Sarah was born in 1868 (according to her marriage license in the US).
The family emmigrated to Michigan about 1872 according to census records under Sarah (who was 14 at the time). I cannot find Caleb or Eliza on US Census Records and in 1880 Sarah and her brothers are living under Thomas Wood in Washington Twp, Sanilac Co, MI. I believe Thomas could possibly be an uncle to Sarah.

I am looking for a birth record for Sarah and any info on Caleb and Eliza.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Brenda Ozog
Wayne, MI

James Lake & Eliza Dean/Deen, Longwell Cemetery, Foxboro, Ontario

Hi all.

I am looking for ancestors and/or decendants of James Lake and Eliza Ann Dean/Deen. They are no doubt decended from John Lake and Mary Margaret Snider but I am unaware of the connection.

In his book pages 242 and 243, McMillan has Eliza Jane married to James Lake born 1794 however the tombstone in the Longwell Cemetery just west of Foxboro, Ontario indicates the James she is married to was born October 15, 1812. Other stones seems to verify that the children listed by McMillan (page 243) are correct for this James and Eliza and a couple of the stones seem to have been replaced for newer ones (they appear to be polished granite and relatively new or newer). I have checked with Campbell's Monuments in Bellevile and they were not aware that they had done any work there.

The 2 youngest family members buried there are a great and a great great grandson of James and Eliza, Clayton Eugene Lake killed November 11, 1916 at Vimy Ridge, and his son John Wesley Lake who died in 1952.
This woulld lead me to thinking that there may still be decendants living in the area or at least someone that may be aware of decendants.

It would appear that the 1794 James Lake in fact was married to Elizabeth Hagerman

In talking to a now retired municipal worker, he indicated that there may be some Longwell decendants left in the area but was not aware of any Lake decendants.

The cemetary is now owned by the Municipality of Quinte West (in the former Sidney Township) The municipality now considers it to be abandoned.

Any leads or other info would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.....Brian

Re: Jeremiah COVERT & James HUBBLE

My 3rd great grandmother was Mary COVERT d/o Jeremiah COVERT & Rebecca CHARD. She was the w/o James HUBBLE & lived on Conc 1 Lot 18. My focus has been with the HUBBLE line but am most interested in the COVERT side as well, just haven't gotten to it yet!

It may interest you, Becky, that James Hubble & Mary Covert's 2nd daughter was named Hannah, so it is a good possibility she had a sister by that name. The 1st daughter was Rebecca after her grandmother Rebecca CHARD and she turned around and married Benjamin CHARD. There were two sons, Alonzo who ended up back in the U.S. and William who was my gg grandfather.

There is a small family plot on the farm where James, Mary, son William & his wife Elizabeth COUCH & their son David & a couple of David's children are buried. There may be others buried but no markers.

I haven't found any info that Jeremiah's wife Rebecca made it to Canada - may have died in Quebec on the way as a number did???

For those interested in this line (COVERT's & HUBBLE's) please feel free to contact me.

Barbara

Lokking for any info on a Joesph Emmerson Mills. The info I have on him is pretty thin but hope someone can help. Joe would have been born about 1910 plus/minus about 5 years. My info is he was from around the Lindsay area. He married a Helen Marie Elsie in Oct 1930 in Port Colborne Ontario. Story goes that they went back to Lindsay and then seperated with Helen going back to Port Colborne and He staying in Lindsay.

While I can't seem to find it, the Library in Lindsay said they found a reference on CemSearch to a Joesph Emmerson Mills "Ed" buried Feb 21 1990 in Cobourg Union Cemetery birth date 1909 death 1990. Wife listed as Betty R Mills (McKend0 1929 but not buried there.

Any help in finding Joe would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Just thought I would share with everyone I found a website that has the 1861 Census for Hastings County online. I couldn't search it but if you know the township your family is located in you can go through it page by page and locate them. Some of the images are faded but the majority are ok. The web site is:
http://www.evendon.net/PGHLookups/Can1861-C1032M.htm
I am searching for descendents of / information about Thomas and Mary (Coffey) Heffernan (born Abt. 1831, died 1/17/1888). They emigrated from Ireland with at least one infant child, son John (dob 11/3/1855). During the trip their ship sank but they survived. They lived in Picton but moved to Trenton by 1889. Family letters mention an Aunt Minnie Lynch who visited often. They had children: Annie (died 1889),Nell (m. McCormick), Patrick, Lizzie, Ellie, Katelin (m. Joseph Klein),
Magerite (aka "Maggie", m. Capt. Jack O'Hagan, living in Tonnawanda, N.Y in 1910, had child Irene in 1893)

Michael (m.Flora?) children: Edith, Annie, Evelyn, Thom
Patrick, Lizzie, Ellie and Fred. Living in Piction as of 1910. Captain of the barge "Water Lily".

John moved West and married Mary Belle Walker. Settled in Washington State. Died in Everett, Washington in 1910. Had children Earl, Matt, Ethel, Magerite, Helen (aka Nell), Anne. At least two of these moved to California. Matt is my g/grandfather. I am trying to locate descendents. Does any of this sound familiar? If so, contact me and I will share what I have.

Charles and Mary Price came to Canada from Ireland perhaps in the 1830's with their children. They resided in Renfrew Co. where they had more children, including Samuel Price born circa 1846 in Horton Tp., Renfrew Co. Something happened to Mary as Charles married Eliza Payne and had several more children. They moved to Bangor Tp., Hastings Co. where Samuel married Susannah Van Allen in 1868. Among other children, Benjamin Franklin Price was born there in 1875. He eventually married Annie Isabella Dunn in 1896. I would really like more accurate dates and places for births, deaths and immigration to Canada and who the siblings married.
I am just starting my research. My great grandfather Harry Cornelius Holland i believe was born in wolloston township (1901) He married a Mae Smith from the Cobourg/colbourne area. Children from this union were George, Betty, Marjorie, Bernice, and Mary Holland. All raised on Old Hasting Road WOllaston Twp. Coe Hill. My grandmother does remember Harry Holland having a brother but can not remember his name. There isnt any information about Harry's (1901) parents. I have a box of old photos without names and dates. If you can link any of this information to yours i would be excited as this is all i know.

Kim

Fleming and/or Flemmings of Tweed, Ontario

Greetings,
My name is David Fleming, son of George Fleming & Yvonne (Bartindale), son of William James Fleming & Alice (Aconley), son of Robert Fleming & Susanna (Bowers), son of James Fleming and Ann(a)????.

Robert, James, Susanna and Ann are from Tweed Ontario, listed as Hungerford township. I have the marriage certificate for Robert Fleming and Susanna Bowers from 1884 or 1886 (not sure which, sitting here at work).

Our family bible lists Flemming and Fleming. Also, there are added references in the few hits I made from the internet that suggests that both versions of Flem(m)ing were employed. I have not had any luck in identifying any pertinent data for Robert Fleming and his siblings nor James and Ann Fleming or for that matter if they were born in Canada or came from Scotland as some in family have surmised.
Our one fading story from the past was that the Fleming family, under a doctor's directions were ordered to split up because of consumption (TB) or die. That may or may not be true because I did identify a news article suggesting that there was a small pox epidemic in Tweed in the the 1880s.
That tale of the family splitting up came from my grandmother Alice (Aconley)Fleming.

I have identified several Fleming marriages from the 1870s that have first names identical to the succeeding generations of Flemings so they may have been related (aunts, just possibly) but I cannot move ahead with the information that I have seen to date. Then again, there are probably much more gifted researchers than myself, as I am most certainly a novice.
Hoping you can help, I remain gratefully yours,
David Fleming (formerly of Lively, Ontario)
864-299-7880
I am looking for information relating to my g-grandfather's family. G-grandfather was CHARLES BESTOR KELLOR, b. March 29, 1836. Birthplace is not known for sure, but believed to be at/near Hastings County or Prince Edward County. I believe Charles was the son of DANIEL KELLOR and Rebecca (?). Daniel and Rebecca are both believed to have been born in Ireland. Charles moved to Dane County, Wisconsin, around 1858, with other family members (at least his father). In 1861 at Verona, Wisconsin, Charles married ELEANOR PLEDGER, b. June 19, 1848, in Town of Murray, Northumberland County, daughter of CHARLES PLEDGER and ALBINA WESSELS. Family history is very scant, but Charles Kellor may have had siblings named Catherine and Mary Ann and there may have been relatives in the Belleville area.
Could I get copies of headstone transcriptions or burial records from somewhere? Any info gratefully appreciated!

It appears that he preferred to be called Wesley Wescott, at least in his younger years. He emigrated to the US between 1852-1854 (sources vary)first to Black River Falls, Jackson Co. Wisconson, and eventually to Linton, Emmons Co., North Dakota where he died in 1904. Married Nancy Wilsey in 1858. Parents may have been Huldah & William Wescott.

I see that there are many Wescotts in Rawdon, so am hoping a reader of this board can show me where Jedediah Wesley Wescott fits into the family.

Thanks!

At some point around 1845, Thomas and Catherine moved from Sidney Twp to Madoc Twp. where they farmed.
I would like to find any info on Catherine Ellis' background as well as info on where the Keene family came from in Ireland.
Also interested in background on Amelia Ann Ferguson (born Nov. 4, 1846 in Hungerford Twp.).
Hendrik Oosterum & Tryntje Lubbertse Van Blaricum

I would like to make contact with all genealogy researchers who have the surname Ostrom in their family. I am attempting to trace all of the Dutch Ostrom lines in both Canada and the U.S. to the immigrant Hendrik Jans(zen) Oosterum and Tryntje Lubbertse (Van Blaricum) who settled in New Amsterdam, NY. Currently I have over 7,500 names in the Ostrom database.
Patrick James REDMOND (born in 1894 or 1893 in Deseronto)

Looking for information on Patrick James Redmond (son of William James Redmond and Bridget Nolan) who was born on 1-Sep-1894 (or 1-Sep-1893) in Deseronto, Hastings County, Ontario.

Patrick immigrated with his parents and siblings to New York state in 1907 or 1908. They lived in Medina, Orleans County, NY. Patrick married Ruth Elliott by whom he had five children. However, he was separated or divorced from Ruth by the time of the 1930 U.S. federal census, and likely had moved back to Ontario by then. The obituary for Patrick's father indicates that in Jun-1948 Patrick was living in Ontario.

Would like to know when Patrick died, where he is buried, and whether he married again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gary Aikin
Cary, North Carolina
gaikin@bellsouth.net
George Jenkins(1805-1893)

I am searching for information on George Jenkins who married a Martha Coughrane(Cockrane). I am guessing that they either married in County Armagh or Antrim around 1830. I find them at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1832 when their daughter, Mary Anne, was born. She died in 1833. The family moved toPicton, Prince Edward County around 1838. They were Presbyterians. It is thought that Martha died around 1855. George eventually moved to Belleville, Hastings county by 1871 and died there in 1893. I have not been able to find a death certificate for him although I know he is buried in Belleville cemetary. His son was James V. Jenkins, who ran the Quinte Hotel from 1905 until his death in 1935. Any guidance in finding more about George would be appreciated.
