If you look at the other articles (Jan 30) it says he is recovering. There also appear to be 2 Captain Handicotts in the SArmy in the US. There are some newspaper articles on GenealogyBank sayinh Alfred ran into some trouble with the SA in 1907.
There is a death record in the NYC index for an Alfred Handicott age 58 died April 15 1933. Could be him. See http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDEATH.STM
On Ancestry.com, there is his WW1 draft registration card giving an exact birth date Dec 25 1872. Middle name Frank..
Also on Ancestry, there is a passsenger record from England 1932. It gives his naturalization date and court in NY which issued papers and passport number. You can find better naturalization index info on the Italian genealogy site above. They are in the Southern district of NY. Order those papers.
There doesn't seem to be an SS# for him but there is one for an Emma. You could try getting her obit. Use the USgenweb for Lebanon County, PA to track it down.
Good luck
Joanna
