Further to my earlier message, I did find what I was looking for with respect to the Rowan family.

Chapter 7 of 'The Rockside Pioneers' by Robert Crichton has this to say about the Rowan family:

'Gilbert Rowan and William Eagles sen. were also among the earliest settlers. Mr. Rowan filled a useful place in the little community as their first school teacher, an occupation which he continued to follow in various schools till the time of his death in January 1851. Mrs. Rowan was an uncommonly useful person. She had received a course of training, and had taken diplomas in nursing and mid-wifery in Glasgow before emigrating and proved to be an angel of mercy to the settlers in that isolated locality. Thirty miles from a doctor, her services were in constant demand. She was taken miles away in every direction to wait upon the sick and the dying, and her native tact, and acquired skill rendered her services eminently successful.

Her death in 1846, at the age of fifty-eight left a blank in the community that even then was very difficult to fill.'

The author, Robert Crichton, was the son of John Crichton who emigrated from Lochwinnoch with John MacDonald (my ancestor) and extended family (and other Lochwinnoch people) aboard The Young Norval in 1820. While the MacDonalds (and perhaps others) went directly to Caledon West Twp. (Rockside), John Crichton went to another area for a short while but rejoined the MacDonalds at Rockside by 1822 and married a MacDonald descendant.

I hope that this is of some value to you -- please bear in mind that Rockside was very close in proximity to Chinguacousy. While it is asserted that the MacDonalds were accompanied by other people from the Lochwinnoch area (the Gibsons for instance), many others are not named. An article in the Quebec City newspaper listing ship arrivals notes that there were 53 pioneers aboard -- by counting all the MacDonalds I can only account for half that number. I suppose that it is possible that this Rowan family was amongst this group.

Hope this is the right family and that this is of some value.

Lucy
