Hello lafalot, I almost can't believe my luck here. I can't help you out with the photos right now as I live in Toronto but I have some info you just might find interesting. The James Doherty that you speak of was the brother of Elizabeth Doherty, my mother's g grandmother's mother. Elizabeth's married name was Steele and they lived next to each other on ajoining farms in North Easthope, just outside of Stratford for many years. As for the cemetery, I have been out there and was incredably lucky to find Elizabeth's stone (she died in 1893) it was lying flat in the ground and I actually walked over it before I saw it. Many of the stones of that age are very hard to find, if at all. I have done a fair bit of research on both the Dohertys and the Steeles if you are interested.
Hope to hear from you.
Tom.

Hi Tom,
The James Doherty that I'm Talking about Was Married to Eleanor Jones in Ireland then they came to Canada with children. There Daughter Elizabeth Doherty married my G Grandfather William Freeborn Thompson. James Dohtery had 9 children, Mary,Margaret,Elizabeth,William,Ellen,James,Matilda,Rebecca,Rachel. I hope that this is the same family that you are talking about. I didn't know of any of James siblings. It would be fantastic if we are related. Do you have any more info or photos to share with me. You can e-mail me direct at lafalot3@msn.com

Looking forward to hearing from you soon
Regards Cathy

Surnames: Doherty, Yeandle, Pilling, Norfolk
Hi Cathy,
I'm wondering what you know about the Dohertys and if they're connected with my family? In the 1901 census the Yeandles with mother-in-law Ellen Dogherty are living a few houses away from the Norfolks including a son Rueben. Rueben later married Lena Pilling (a great great aunt of mine who raised my grandmother). When Reuben died sometime after the 1911 census Lena married "Jack Doherty". I know Lena and Jack had three children, Bradley, Spencer and Riley and I know that Jack lived into the 1950's but otherwise I know very little. It seems possible, though, that Jack is connected with your Dohertys. By the way Lena's parents and older sister are buried at Avondale too. Any thoughts for my search? Thanks, Cathy

Hello, Sorry I took so long to get back to you, we have been on holidays and just got back. You are right about Ellen Doherty and the Yeandles. But I need a little more info on whose parents were Jack's??? I have found the marriage of Lena Norfolk and John Albert Doherty on 3 Feb 1913 in york and his parents were James Doherty & Sarah Bradley. I just need to connect James Doherty with my Doherty's. Give me a little time to try and figure this out, it might be another side of the Doherty's I haven't found yet. If you have any more info you can give me it would help.
take care
Cathy

I truly don't know much, especially about the Doherty's. You found more than I knew by finding Lena's marriage to John Albert. There seems there must be a connection between James and your family if your family is connected to Ellen because it would be a huge coincidence for Lena's first husband to live so close to Ellen and then happen, two years later, to marry someone of the same last name. Bradley, Lena and Jack's oldest was born around 1915 and lived in Montreal. At some point, after having children, family lore says that he committed suicide. Spencer, the middle child was apparently in the Royal Navy in WWII. My grandmother, who lost her mother when she was only 10 months old, lived for a time with her Aunt Lena and Uncle Jack and was very close to her aunt especially. If I find out anything else I'll let you know! Thanks for writing back. Cathy
