Peter Mallo is my great great grandfather. His daughter Catherine Mallo is my great grandmother.

It is my understanding that Peter's wife Margaret Metzger (Metzer) was from Alsace Lorraine and that he met her at the time he was leaving for North America and presumably married her before they left.

My great grandmother Catherine (who was born in Canada) married Philip Wagner. Catherine and Philip's daughter Lavina told me that Catherine did not speak German but French, although the rest of the household could speak German.

So was either Peter French or Margaret French or French speaking? While I understood Peter's wife came from Alsace Lorraine it was never clear to me where Peter came from.

Mallo/Mallow is not a very German name? Is is originally from southern europe--Italy or Spain.

Bill Wagner, Vernon. B.C.
