Diehl adoption in Stratford

I am searching for my g.g.grandmother who was born in Stratford, ontario about 1845. She came from a family of 6 siblings of Irish descent but her mother was apparently killed in a freak runaway horse accident. We don't know if her father was killed in the same accident but it is a possiblity. Catherine and Christian Diehl adopted her. Her name was Katrina Diehl but it is unlikely that her first name was her biological name since Katrina sounds German. Her adoptive parents were of German descent. I am looking for any info regarding Katrina and was hoping to find connections in any of the families I have listed. I am hoping that perhaps the Diehl famiy bible, if there was one, might have her birth parents listed or brothers/sisters. Any info or assistance would be greatly appreciated since my grandmother is still alive and I would love to share this info with her.

Hitzeroth Portrait

I am seeking the whereabouts of a large (approx. 1'x2') oval shaped charcoal portrait that was mistakenly sold upon the death of a relative in Nov. 1990. It was in the possession of the late Madeline Capling formerly of 119 Centre St. in Stratford. This original portrait was made about 1885. It pictured Johannes (seated) and his wife Eva Hitzeroth (standing on his left). I am very much interested in obtaining this heirloom so that it can remain with the family. If you may have purchased this portrait or knows anyone who did at the above mentioned place and time period please contact me. Thank you. Randy W.-Hitzroth, Toronto.

Sandra: I sent you a response by mistake about the Hitzeroth portrait I'm trying to locate. Sorry. However, I recognize the Diehl name during my research. Did a relative Adam Diehl owned a house at 61 Jacob St. (corner of John St.) in Tavistock? My relative, John Hitzeroth, purchased it from him in full in April 1901. Just curious.

Better late than never---The only thing I know is this family lived at Con 5 Lot 24 Huron township before 1870. Katharina married John McArthur and lived in Lindsay township at the time of her Diehl fathers death 1893. She was known as Catherine. Contact me off line if you need more

Sandra, Do you have any information about the surname of Rhyvers. My grand mother's name was Monica Rhyvers George Shelton. Rhyvers was her middle name. There is no one else in the family with this name. Thank you, Roma

Haven't been here in a while. A member of my extended family has done our family tree and we find mention of a Rhyvers family living on Concession 6 in Huron Township. They were believed to be of German descent and were also believed to be related to other neighbors in the same concession. There is a listing for a Valntine Rhyvers. I recently ran a search on Rhyvers because I'm still trying to find a connection as to where my g.g.grandmother came from and I found a Vallantyne Rever registered in Huron, Bruce South, Ontario. He ws married to Catharine Rever and she was from Prussia, Germany. She was born in 1820. I don't know if that's of any help but I believe it is the same "Valentine Rhyvers" listed in our family book

Hi Sandra, My g-grandfather was Charles H. McArthur, so we are cousins. I can not prove it but I think Katherine Diehl's birth father was James Brown. He was living on Con. 1, Lot 22, South Easthope from 1842-1847. He was Church of England, there were 8 people in the household in 1845 (9 in 1847) and he had 3 horses. Very few people in the township had horses yet. There are not many Irish in the area. This is the only family I can find that fits. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
