I believe my Great Grandfather William John McMillan was born in Quebec, Canada on August 24, 1847 as William John McMullen (birth record from the Drouin collection for his baptism at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral in Quebec). His parents were John McMullen (signed as McMullian), and Margaret Orr. However, I've been able to find no census information for 1851(52) or 1861 for the family?? It's possible that one (or both) died, but I'm even not sure of locating my Great Grandfather for those censuses??

I found my Great Grandfather William John McMillan in Fergus, Ontario for the 1871 census with his wife (Annie Todd). His marriage record shows as married in Nichol Township (Fergus), Ontario in 1867 and I've found birth records 2 for children in Fergus. He emigrated to Minnesota in 1879 and his wife came in 1880.

His in-laws, Matthew Todd and wife Ellen MacGregor aka Helen Drummond emigrated from Scotland and were on the 1861, 1871, and 1881 (it appeared Ellen may have died before 1881 as he was married to a Margaret on that census).

I beleive John McMullen/McMillan and Margaret Orr may have been married in Ireland. I'm not sure of either's origin but could be Scottish or Irish or a combination of.

I wonder if any of the Orr's in the Fergus area might have been related to Margaret? It appears there were a number of Orrs in the area.

Would appreciate any possible help about John and Margaret.
