Anyone interested in Vipond history in Canada prior to the Thomas Vipond family coming to America circa 1858 should read "The Queen's Bush Settlement - Black Pioneers 1839-1865" by Linda Brown-Kubisch, National Heritage Books, Toronto 2004. The Rev. Thomas Harrison Vipond is referenced over twenty times in this historical publication. Just look up "Vipond" in the index to be directed to some interesting facts and a couple of "surprises" regarding the character of this Primitive Methodist Minister. The Reverend Vipond was my great great grandfather who was reportedly from Scotland, but more probably from Northern England then on to Scotland, Canada and finally America. The book is available online from Amazon.com as well as Barnes and Noble

I have just ordered my copy!! From what I saw on google, it is an eye opener. Mary Teall Magden, the young woman with whom he had the affair (I would say seduced given the disparity in their ages), was a relative of mine. I was happy to see, while digging through the records, that she kept her daughter, Jane, with her. Sadly, Jane died young, sometime before her 17th birthday.

You are really going to enjoy this book. I am currently writing my own book about my Vipond line. I have included Mary Teal in the Vipond tree since Thomas Harrison Vipond is the father of her daughter. Can you fill me in on any more information regarding the Teal sisters? I found them in the 1851 Canadian census and they were the same age. Were they twins? The attached photos are of my great grandmother Emily (Vipond) Deeds and her father, Thomas Harrison Vipond. If you like, please feel free to contact me directly at r.deeds@comcast.net
