Would like to obtain information on a Leslie McDonald who lived in Hamilton in 1928. Do not have further information on him/her. Leslie attended the funeral of Flora McDonald Thompson in St. Thomas in November 1928 and am trying to place him with this family.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to see this or not. This is a link to the 1922 Vernon's City Directory for Hamilton. There is a Leslie McDonald listed as Laborer, residing at 168 Baron Ave., Hamilton.

Hopefully this will help you in some way.

Here is a death for a Leslie MacDonald from Ancestry.ca

Leslie Clement MacDonald, married, b 21 July 1872 at Puslinch, traveller, s/o John Angus MacDonald & Louisa Jane Leslie both b England, informant: Margaret MacDonald, wife of 145 Queen St S, burial: Hamilton, 27 Mar 1930 of angina pectoris. Hamilton Wentworth, Registration # 038395.

John Angus MacDonald, 145 Queen St S, 81 yrs, born London England, b 14 Feb 1842, s/o Donald MacDonald & ??? Hosty both b England, informant: Leslie C MacDonald, son, of 145 Queen St S, burial: Morriston, died 13 Nov 1924, died of apoplexy, Hamilton Wentworth, # 037749.

On Flora McDonald Thompson's death rego, it gives parents as Donald McDonald and Helen but b Scotland. Sometimes the records get confused.
I think John Angus and Flora are brother and sister. Leslie McDonald was likely her nephew and John was dead by then.

Here they are on 1851 census Finchley, Middlesex England

McDONALD,
Donald, 36, c 1815, b Scotland, London City Missionary
Ellen, 30, born Herts ????,
John, 8 or 9, scholar, b Hagerstone, Middlesex
Flora, 7, scholar, b Shoreditch Middlesex
Archibald, 3, at home, b Shoreditch
Jemmima, 3 mths, b Finchley Middlesex

From FreeBMD
Donald Mcdonald married Ellen Hosty, registered December quarter 1841 at Shoreditch Middlesex.
Hosty is mother's name given on John Angus' death registration.

On 1911 census it says that Flora Thompson immigrated in 1853.

Hope this helps some.

Good afternoon!

Thank you for the information you provided for Leslie Clement MacDonald and John Angus MacDonald.

I believe that you may have provided very important information for my family tree.

On Flora's marriage registration (1866) it shows her residence as Hamilton. In her obituary it states that her father was Rev. Donald McDonald and the 1851 census you provided shows Donald as a Missionary.

I do know that Flora had a brother Archibald who also lived in St. Thomas and I have a fair bit of information on him. The main problem I find is that Archibald's obituary states that he had 8 siblings that emigrated with he and his parents (5 sibs and mother died of cholera shortly after arriving in Canada). Some of the records re Archibald show him as McDonald and some show MacDonald and this variance is part of my problem. The name Jemmima is new to me.

I very much appreciate all your help with my search.
