Hello satch42179

Thank you very much for the information you posted. This is the couple I'm looking at, and I think it is them with surname as Warren (one of several variations I've come across) in Dereham in 1861 with William's sister Maria. Just to confuse the issue Maria married a Warne! I think other siblings also emigrated to Canada around the same time, so I'm trying to firm up which Warne/Warrens are "mine" and which aren't.
Many thanks once again,

John

Hello,

On Ancestry I found that on 6th November 1858 William Warne (Blandford Twp)married Jane Lee (Hamilton Twp), but as it is an Index, the parents names aren't shown.
I'd be grateful if anyone has the parents' names, particularly for William, so that I know I am "following" the right one (or not, which is just as helpful!)

Thanks very much,

John

I also am looking at this family. I received the following information on a genealogy.com forum from Margaret Durfy. Also, below this post is a correction. Below that will be my information.

Re: Jacob Durfy/Durfey,Badaxe Mich 1860's
Posted by: Margaret Durfy Date: January 17, 1999 at 18:17:46

In response to inquiry from Charles Durfy--My husband is descended from Henry Durfy born Canada 1818. He lived in Hamilton,Ontario, Canada (Wentworth County). In the same area lived Augustus born U.S., Theodore-U.S. and Jedediah born 1777 in U.S.and Jacob. I have not been able to prove that Jedediah is the father of the above men but It does appear to be the case. Henry and Jacob and families moved to Blenheim, Ontario Canada in 1854 where Jacob is found on the 1861 census. Henry stayed here but Jacob moved on to BadAxe Mich. Henry's son Abraham moved to Badaxe in 1880 near his uncle Jacob but soon returned to Canada.
Jacob Durfy of Glandford Township, Wentworth County, Ontario married Sara Smith of Townsend, Wentworth County, Ontario on 21st of October 1847 at the Wesleyan Parsonage(Reverend E.M. Ryerson) ref-Ontario Marriage Records-Wilson page 162. Sara Smith was descended from John Smith b1747 or 1749, Ludgate Hill, London England and Anna Roy b.13 April 1752 born Ludgate Hill, London, England. Married March 10,1772 New Jersey, Sussex County. They both lived in Ancaster Township, Wentworth County , Ontario, Canada at the time of their death. They had 8 sons and I am not sure which one Sara is descended from. The following information is from personal papers of Crowell Smith deposited in Hamilton Public Library, Ontario, Canada. I have more dates relating to John and Anna if you are interested.
For 20 years I have searched to find where in the U.S. these Durfy men came from and their parents. Jedediah was listed in the 1819 census in the same area as above. I keep finding reference to a Jedediah and Lydia Dean in Leeds County, Ontario in 1811 and can't so far find a connection to my Jedediah in Hamilton. I have an old photograph from Flint, Michigan showing 3 people but sadly no names.
Are you descended from Jacob. I have more dates on Jacob's children also.
I just started using the computer and don't know if I am supposed to be giving all this information on the forum page or sending it privately to interested parties. Advice Please. M. Durfy

In Reply to: Jacob Durfy/Durfey,Badaxe Mich 1860's by Margaret Durfy of 837
Re: Jacob Durfy/Durfey,Badaxe Mich 1860's
Posted by: Ronald Cox Date: April 10, 1999 at 14:37:13
In Reply to: Re: Jacob Durfy/Durfey,Badaxe Mich 1860's by Margaret Durfy of 837

Crowell Smith was a descendant of John Smith, supposedly born in Ludgate Hill, BUT his papers contain information on several of the other Smith families (and others) in the Glanford area that all intermarried. (And I have a copy of his papers- some of which are unfortunately unreadable in whole or part.)
The Sara Smith, b. 18 Mar 1825, that married Jacob Durfey, is the daughter of Lewis Smith Jr. and Sarah Freeman. Lewis is the grandson of Jacob Smith Sr., U.E., whose family were the first settlers in Glanford Twp., and no link between Jacob and John Smith is known

For geographical correctness, Townsend Twp., is part of Norfolk Co., not Wentworth Co.

A good many of the Smiths and other families ended up in the various parts of Kent Co., e.g. Blenheim.

Sorry can't help with the Durfeys, but the Smiths are another story.

I am trying to find information on my GG Grandmother Phoebe Durfy, Durfey, daughter of Jacob; son of Jedediah? and perhaps Lydia Dean. I do not have a lot of information on her other than she married Mason Stevens from Sinilac County, Michigan. He died 4/16/1886.

Phoebe and Mason had two daughters; Cora born 6/1883 and Lillian (my g grandmother) born in 1885. After Mason died, she married Roswell Newell Hilton(husband #2). Upon his death, Phoebe and the girls moved to Buffalo, Erie County, New York.

Lillian married Roy J Zollars and had three children by him. When Roy died she married Charles Kleinfelder and had three more children. Lillian died in 1918 of the flu. The children were all moved to orphanages or foster care in New York State.

I cannot find information on Cora (Phoebe's daughter). If you have any information to fill in the blanks, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you found any information as to the earlier history of this family or what may have happened to Pheobe and Cora?

Muriel Jankowski
1389 Elm Street
Alden, New York 14004
murielj@earthlink.net

Good afternoon!

Thank you for the information you provided for Leslie Clement MacDonald and John Angus MacDonald.

I believe that you may have provided very important information for my family tree.

On Flora's marriage registration (1866) it shows her residence as Hamilton. In her obituary it states that her father was Rev. Donald McDonald and the 1851 census you provided shows Donald as a Missionary.

I do know that Flora had a brother Archibald who also lived in St. Thomas and I have a fair bit of information on him. The main problem I find is that Archibald's obituary states that he had 8 siblings that emigrated with he and his parents (5 sibs and mother died of cholera shortly after arriving in Canada). Some of the records re Archibald show him as McDonald and some show MacDonald and this variance is part of my problem. The name Jemmima is new to me.

I very much appreciate all your help with my search.

Louise Sargeant

Searching for information about Elijah OWEN who came to Wentworth County about 1826. His wife's name was Elizabeth Aikeman Sloan. She probably brought with her at least two sons: William and John Sloan. Elijah and Elizabeth had 4 children born in Wentworth after 1826. The James Alexander Aikeman family also came about the same time.

Any help greatly appreciated.

This survey seems to be located on the East Side of Victoria Avenue North thru to East Avenue thru to West side of Emerald Street North. And From Barton Street East, north to South Street, next to the C. N. Railway Line.
Thank you for trying to help me with this family search.

John Alexander Thompson (brother of my grandmother) was born on or about 6 Sept. 1871 in Walkerton, Bruce, Ontario. He was the son of James Thompson and Flora McDonald. John married Mary Torrance on 25 Oct. 1899 in Paris, Brant, Ontario. Mary Torrance was born 29 Sept. 1873 in Paris, to John Torrance and Margaret Allison. On the marriage register, the 1901 Census and the 1911 Census, John is listed as a barber. According to the 1911 census they lived on Walnut Street, Paris. They are also listed as being Baptist denomination.

According to his father's obituary (James Thompson 4 Apr 1914) John Alexander Thompson lived in Paris. According to his mother's obituary (Flora McDonald Thompson 13 Nov 1928) John lived in Hamilton.

I do not know the date of death of either John Alexander Thompson nor Mary Torrance McDonald and am hoping the burials at Woodland, Wentworth are the correct people.

The other enquiry that I posted was for any information regarding Leslie McDonald who attended the funeral of Flora McDonald Thompson - I would dearly love to know his connection to my grandmother but at the moment I know nothing about this person.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Thank you for providing me with so much information! I sincerely am grateful for all your hard work.

Unfortunately, my hunch was wrong and the first bunch of Cantillons you responded with are in fact, not my line of Cantillons. Mary and Michael's 1st two children Edward and Nellie were not born until 1862 and later.

Thank you again for clearing this up for me!
I'm having a very difficult time accessing the record.

I am looking for Michael "Mike" Cantillon, born 1828 in Ireland and his wife Mary Cantlon Cantillon, born about 1836 in Ireland.
One of their mothers "Ellen" might have traveled with them- I'm not sure if she is a Cantlon or a Cantillon.
They moved to Canada between 1850-1862. Doing some detective work, I believe they might have lived in Wentworth.
They had 2 children born in Canada- Ellen "Nellie" and Edward.
They moved to Missouri, USA about 1870 and I have info on them between then and now.

If anyone could provide any info prior to 1870, I certainly would appreciate it- thanks!

And/or know where the original marriage documents might be housed. Ancestors John LONG & Adeline/Adaline GLOVER were supposed to have been married there on June 10, 1862 by Rev.
Hi
I had a look for any male "Parish" in 1911 census for all of Ontario. I only found one Robert Parish but it reads he was born in Ontario, but then again it could be a mistake since it looks like the whole family that he was living with at the time was born in Ontario so again if all of the other details match fairly close then it is a possible lead. Here is the information
Name: Robert Parish
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Age: 36
Birth Date: Jun 1875
Birthplace: Ontario
Relation to Head of House: Hired Man
Tribal: English
Province: Ontario
District: Algoma East
District Number: 54
Sub-District: Bidwell
Sub-District Number: 4
Place of Habitation: Bidwell
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
William Marshall 45
Mary Marshall 46
William Marshall 19
Thomas Marshall 16
Walter Marshall 15
Harvey Marshall 11
Lilian Marshall 9
Leonard Marshall 8
Robert Parish 36

Let me know if you are needing more
Hi
I checked the 1911 census for the Saltfleet area and found nothing. What I would do is go through all 4 districts and look for yourself.
Hi, I would like to check if Robert Parish born 1887 in Enfield, England went to Stoney Creek in 1907. He was shown as farm labourer but believe his trade was a woodworker. This is the destination found on passenger list. Are there records of newcomers to this town?
