Miss Bessie Monson, 95, retired teacher, died April 25 after an illness of seveal years. The daughter of Elijah Whaley and Susan Turley Monson, she was born on a farm near the Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas County lines. She attended Smith's Classical Institute and was graduated from the University of Kentucky in the class of 1904.. She began her teaching career in the Cynthiana Public Schools, but she lived some 65 years in Alabama. For 16 years she was science teacher and counselor of student government at Ramsay High School.

She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School and Woman's Missionary work. She was a charter member of the Birmingham Zoological and Botanical Gardens Society.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Whaley Funeral Home Saturday, april 29, at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Winn T. Barr.

Pallbearers will be Collis Maffett, Stanley Scott, Sanford Monson, James Kendall, George Monson, Orie Smith, Roy Harney, Allen and Paul Monson. Burial will follow in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Friday.
