The family of Jackson and Mary Polly White emailed me about 2 years ago and said that these Whites were not the parents of General Cicero White. Their son was named General Jackson White. That is why I've had to start all over again in my search for the parents.
Thanks you so much for your reply, and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
I'm happy to see that someone actually reads the Marshall County boards! This county desperately needs a researcher!
If anyone else out there knows the parents of General Cicero White, any information would be appreciated.
Thank you again, Bob, for sending a reply!
General Cicero White's parents were Jackson White and Mary (Polly) (maiden name unknown to me). They were both born in Ga.(where?). From census' it is hard to determine when Jackson was born. On the 1870 census of Gwinnett Co., Ga., Jackson and "Polly" were both born in 1820. On the 1860 census of Gwinnett Co. Jackson was born 1814 and "Polly' in 1827. I estimate they were married circa 1842 (where?). Their children were: a son (born 1843); Catherine (1846); John (1852); and General (1856). I am not sure General was born in Gwinnett Co. I am not related. Bob Eddings.

I realize I am a bit late with an inquiry regarding the "Ricketts Family", however I would be most interested in Edward Ricketts, born 1706 to Thomas Ricketts, born 1685 and Rebecca Nicholson Ricketts, born 1681. Their births were all in Maryland. I have that he was married to Mary Ann Cheyney, born 1608, as well as to a Margaret Powell, born 1606. My question is to when he was married to each and how many children had he by each.
If you have any information, please forward.
Thank you,
Mary Ricketts Doerr

I found her name spelled Faniah, Fanniah, Foniah and Fanora. It is spelled Fanora in 1882 when she married James King in Marshall Co. The marriage record names a Felix Thompson and a J.T. Thompson. Major used the name King where he and Fanora show up in the 1900 census in Warrenton. Thanks Donna Sophiesmom59@hotmail.com

He actually remembers the incident I mentioned in my last post from 1947. He may be able to help you. Name is Mr Harvey, he's in his 80s now-not the son ask for the older Mr Harvey. He hopefully will point you to the person in Guntersville that is considered the unofficial historian for the town. I won't mind telling you his name and #, but I don't think he'd appreciate my posting that here. Really nice guy though and has lived in Guntersville for years and years.
They go back that far and then some. However, I hope you have better luck than I did. Our family had a member killed in 1847 on the street in Guntersville. I never found a "hint" about it on the microfilm. A family member found an old article/picture from the Albertville paper and the paper was dated a year later. I suspect they were running the story again while the trial was going on. That or there was a mistake made chiseling the headstone which clearly reads July 1947. You might consider the date discrepancy when you search the films. Good Luck Donna

My gg-grandfather, James Silas Jernigan, was a founding member of New Friendship Baptist Church in Arab. I have a copy of the 100th anniversary book of the church, "From Friends...Came Friendship". The address at the front of the book shows simply the name of the church and Union Grove, Alabama. Somewhere I have a fold out map of Marshall County that shows where the church is located exactly. I believe the cemetery is right next to the church. There is a b&w photo of the cemetery on Decoration Day in May 1985 and the church steeple is right in the background of the photo.

One other thing, if you have access to a library in your town, you can get your library to send a request for them to look it up for you. That tends to get better results than asking over the phone.

I am scrolling thru these old posts, so I don't know if your still interested or not. If so, you should call the Guntersville Piblic Library, they have many years of old newspapers on microfilm. During that time period the paper would've been called the Democrat. Good Luck Donna

Kirb (Curb) worked at and retired from the Post Office. Anybodu with any info on these 2 brothers please write me back.
Re: Jonathan Tipton & Minerva Tipton Jones who married Robert Elgin 1851

From an old post "Minerva Tipton Jones moved with her father Jonathan to Marshall Co, AL. She is widowed in 1850. Census Records prove it. She marries Robt Elgin in [Dec] 1851. She and her siblings named in her father's [1848] Estate papers and his app for Rev War Pension. See the 4 vols titled "Rev War Pension application" and the Estate Records of Marshall Co., AL. It would be nice to see the records mentioned
above... If the above is true then this ... would indicate that Minerva did not die before 1820, and maybe divorced Stephen Jones who is shown to have married Mary Parsons ca.
1820... Also a Jonathan Tipton was shown in the 1830 Lee Co. Va. Census, and I believe it was this Jonathan."

My problem with the above is the census records show this Minerva born c 1813. Either she looked young, lied or it's a different Minerva.

I have a Johnathan Tipton born in VA 1787 who had a second marriage to Mary Ann Chatham and had a large family(9 children) then married Mary May McBroom in 1829 in Madison Co., AL. They had 10 children. Marshall was part of Madison in the early years. I do not have a daughter by the name of Minera. However his father Shadrack had 11 most of whom were in Madison and Jackson counties. There is a Manerva who was daughter of Wiliam C. who was son of Shadrick (2) who was son of first Shadrack. This is one of our lines and I have no other Manervas who are any earlier.Ours was born 1844. Helene

Hello. My name is Irene. I am trying to find old photos, names of slaves, stories, and any other record that you may have.

Unfortunately, several of my ancestors were slaves. Based on the 1860 Slave Census, I know that George Dameron (G.D) Staton (Sr. and Jr.) and Thomas W. Staton were slave-owners. Since they lived in the same area that my family grew up in and my family took the Slave-owner’s name, I am 99.9% positive that I have the right slave-owners names. My family started off spelling their name as Staton. It has been changed throughout the years: Staton, Statton, Statten, Staten

Please do not worry about politically correct.

Sincerely,
Irene
distaten@att.net
To the Barnes, Cates, Kates, O’Berry, Reese, Reece, Sherod, Sherrod, Wilson, Booth, Prentice, Prentiss, Crumer, and Cromer Families:

I am turning to all families that may be connected to my current quest:

My 2nd Great Grandmother was Laura Cates Barnes. Her middle name may have been Kate. According to census records, she was born in Florida; death records provide her birth date as 26 Sep 1845; passed away on 1 Nov 1907, Kissimmee, Osceola, FL. They are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee, FL. Laura Cates married James Alpheus Barnes about 1865. James Alpheus Barnes was the son of Benjamin Barnes, who was son of Jesse Barnes...of South Carolina.

Laura Cates and James Alpheus Barnes had the following children:
1)	Elizabeth Waller Barnes, b: 1 Dec 1867, Lake City, Columbia County FL; married James Franklin O’Berry
2)	Benjamin Reese Barnes; b 26 Jul 1869; Lake City FL; died 1870
3)	Sherod (Sherrod) Alpheus Barnes; b 4 Nov 1870; died 1872
4)	George Theodore Barnes; b 24 Mar 1872; died 1917
5)	Rosa Jane Barnes; b 10 Mar 1874; died 1879
6)	Ola Verdelia Barnes; b 17 Jul 1876; died 15 May 1936 (married Daniel T. Wilson “Dede”)
7)	William C. Barnes; b 13 Oct 1879;

Tracing the ancestry of Laura Cates has become a nightmare. I have all the census records “after” her marriage to James Alpheus Barnes. I have followed up “family” leads, expanded my search to NC, GA, TN, AL and TX. In desperation I started studying the names of her children for clues, which has led me on a very interesting study of the following families: Sherod, Sherrod, Reece, and Reese.

I have stumbled upon the following information that seems to mean nothing, but could provide a breakthrough:
•	In 1842, a Mary Reece, born 1825 in TN married a Robert H. Sherrod, born 1816 in TN.
•	On July 2, 1882 in TX, a Mary Elizabeth Cates married Granville Sherrod (born 8 May 1859 in TN, son of John “Jack” Sherrod). Mary Elizabeth Cates was daughter of William D. Cates (b 5 Dec 1831, TN) and Martha M. Booth (b 15 Aug 1841).
•	In Maine, I discovered an Ola Cates...no further information.
•	In Alabama, 1849, a Malinda Cates purchased property Alabama.
•	In “The Ancestors & Descendents of Carroll Prentice” it is stated that Samuel Wesley Prentice, (son of William Prentice) born 20 January 1809 in Louisville, Jefferson Co. Kentucky; married Malinda Crumer Cates 1848.
•	The 1850 Marshall AL census shows a Malinda Prentice living with Cates children, including a Laura Cates age 4.
•	The 1860 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children including Laura Prentice age 14.
•	The 1870 Marshall AL census shows Malinda and Samuel Prentice with children and Laura Cates age 24.

I would very much appreciate any help in solving the mystery regarding my GGG grandmother Laura Cates O’Berry.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Barbara Bretthauer Marquez Froyland
bfroyland@comcast.net

I'm the great, great, great grandson of William Henry Smith buried at Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Cemetery in the Asbury, Madison County. I have a lot of information on William. I am looking for a photo of William and thought a Killingsworth family member might have such an artifact.

If you are interested in William, I can offer some background. Hope you can do the same on Doney Killingsworth.
I am trying to find information on the family of Horace Edgar, son of Jerry and Rebecca Edgar on the 1880 Census. I would also like to find a marriage for Horace (also known as H.E. Edgar) to a Vice or Lou Vicy maiden name unknown.

I am researching my Edgar's from Marshall Co. Alabama. I realize that this post is over 9 years old. I was just hoping you still checked the posts. I would be interested in seeing if your Edgar's are mine.
Lynn
