Do any of you who are researching the Griffins have a Young Griffin in your database? I recently ran across a Marion Commonwealth newspaper article dated 11 Nov 1880 in which Young Griffin shot George M Heard at Heard's Store in northeast Perry County on 5 Nov 1880. Family legend has it that the shooting was over my grandmother. George died from the wounds on 19 Nov 1880. I would like to know more about Young Griffin.

HEARD CEMERTY-PERRY COUNTY, AL

My great great grandparents Anderson Davis and Lucinda Wright Davis are documented as being there in Heard Cemetery. They died about the time of the Civil War. I have never seen the site, but according to cousins, there are few graves markers there and none for my direct ancestors. I have seen that two partial surveys were done, but not online and have copies of that. Recently, I learned that there are some more recent markers there. One being Jimmie Lee Jackson, a young black man killed in 1965 during a protest of his Civil Rights being abused. The online information was taken from a book: Davis, Townsend (1998). Weary Feet, Rested Souls: A Guided History of the Civil Rights Movement. New York: W. W. Norton & Company. pp.121-123. ISBN 0393045927. The book said, according to another researcher, that he was buried along his father in the Heard Slave Cemetery. From the directions to that cemetery are the same as the location of the Heard Cemetery which my ancestors were buried. Does anyone know anything about this?

I am asking if that census was a complete census or a partial....does anyone know? I see that Perryville Beat 8 and Severe Beat 8 are the only two areas that were recorded.

I also saw that there were a couple Alabama state census taken...one before the Civil War and the other just after.

Reuben Tubb husband of Permelia Jane [McLaughlin] Tubbs

I am searching for information on Reuben/Rubin Tubb (b. abt 1824), husband of Permelia Jane [McLaughlin] Tubbs. The last information I have on him is the 1880 census for Perry County, AL in which he is listed (erroneously) as Rufus Tubbs with wife Amelia. He is "keeping a livery stable". This correlates with the information for the family of Reubin Tubbs in the 1870 census with wife Pamelia In this census Reubin also "keeping livery stable."

My research question is where and when Reuben died.

Pamelia was with her son George R. Tubbs in Milam County, Texas in the 1900 census. Permelia was with her daughter, Nancy Lavonia [Tubb] Hopkins who married William Williams Hopkins in Perry County on 10 January, 1860 in Nolan County County, Texas in the 1910 census.

Dr. Judy has recorded a tombstone inscription in the Tubb cemetery as

"Reuben Tubb, Born, Oct. 21, 1853 in Franklin County, Tennessee, Died in Birmingham, Ala. Aug. 20, 1881" This Reuben had to belong somehow to the Richard Tubb family since he is buried in that cemetery.

I have checked the 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 census for Franklin County, Tennessee and found no Tubbs there. I wonder if the Reuben Tubb of the tombstone inscription is Reuben Tubb, husband of Permelia.

Some researchers seem to think that Reuben Tubb is buried beside Permelia Tubb because there is an empty space next to her tombstone in a small bricked area in the Hopkins area of Sweetwater cemetery in Nolan County, Texas. However, my mother's cousin and my mother's sister were avid family historians and I have never found a mention of a burial of Reuben Tubb in Sweetwater in any family records.

I am the 3rd grt granddaughter of Permelia [McLaughlin} Tubbs who married first Jackson Tubb and second Reuben Tubb.

I would be grateful for any assistance on this question.

Nina Mae died in Linclon Parrish, LA in 1937 but no death certificate can be found even though it was a coroner's case/auto accident. She was the first of her siblings to die so not mentioned in any of their obits. I have her brother's Willis Bible, which names his parents, but can't find the documentation between Willis and Nina either. Any input on the subject would be helpful.

Old Land Ownership Maps

Does anyone researching any surname in Perry County have copies of land ownership maps dating back to 1820-1833? My ggggrandfather lived in Perry County, and I would like to know if anyone has seen his name on land records. Andrew Hardy lived in the Marion District on the 1830 census. If anyone has a copy of land patent maps/land ownership maps and would be willing to look for the name of Andrew Hardy, I would greatly appreciate it. Another ggggrandfather is Isaac Abercrombie. He also owned land in Perry County. Thank you.

Walke family from Virginia to Perry Co. Al

The Mystery of William Carrington Walke
born August 2, 1834
Cumberland County, Virginia

Susan Francis Lee was born 9 Nov 1841 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama and lived there until she was eleven years old. She came with her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Lee to Cold Springs, Walker County, Texas. She had two at least two brothers, John S. Lee and Louis M. Lee, residents San Jacinto County and Walker County, Texas, respectively. Her brother was Lewis [sic] M. Lee, born about 1838 and a resident of Walker County, Texas in 1908. Mr. Lee had a son named John and another named Henry.

Susan F. Lee was first married to William “Bill” Carrington Walke on 16 Jul 1866 [Walker County, Texas marriage records Volume C, page 192 shows on 10 Jul 1868, married by D. W. Steele, Minister.] Mr. Walke was a resident of Texas before the Civil War and had been a Confederate soldier in Parson’s Texas regiment. Walke had been previously married to a woman who died in Alabama before he came to Texas. Walke’s old home was either near Selma or Montgomery, Alabama and he had one brother Jack Walke.

Mrs. Martha Susan Frazier, age 79 years [born 1830], on 15 Jun 1909, lives with her daughter Mrs. [Minnie B.] Pouncey in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia said “William Walke was my younger brother. So far as I know I am the only one of Pa’s children who is alive. William first married preacher Talbert’s [sic] daughter, can’t tell the year, and lived with her until she died and went to Texas and staid absent a year then came back and staid with us near Uniontown, Alabama nearly a year then went to Texas again and I have never seen him any more. We were living down near Uniontown, Alabama when he went out to Texas right after his first wife died and was still there when he came back. I think he staid nearly a year when he came back from Texas the last time. I can’t tell the date or year of his coming or going. He never did write to us after he went to Texas the last time and we never knew whether he was dead or alive. All the information that I ever had of him after he went to Texas the last time was gotten from his brother-in-law John Tolbert. William wrote to Mr. Tolbert that he was in a large stock business with Mr. England in the back part of Texas and that he was doing mighty well. Mr. England went from Marion Alabama to Texas. Brother William said when he went away the last time that he was going back to Texas again and that he did not intend to let any of us see or hear from him any more until he got independent and then he was coming back to see us. Brother William went off mad with Jack because Jack did not send him money. He got sick at Meridian and wrote to Jack for money and brother Jack sent him as much as he could spare and brother William wanted more and got mad at brother Jack because he did not send him more and said that he was going off and that none of us should ever hear from him until he got independent and we never heard of him any more except through John Talburt [sic].

“I heard that brother William married after he went to Texas but he did not tell us anything about being married when he was back to Alabama the last time. I never heard that he was blown up on a steamboat when on his way back to Texas the last time. I am sure that brother Jack would have told me about it if he had heard that brother William was blown up on a steamboat. No Sir, I don’t remember to have ever heard that brother William was a convict, guard or clerk in any penitentiary...”

Mrs. Hollie Walke, age 64 [born 1845], post office address is Devine, Medina County, Texas on 10 May 1909 said “I am the widow of John Paul Walke who was known by everybody as Jack Walke. He died in October 1881 in Mississippi. I can not recall the name of the town or county as we hadn’t lived there very long. Before going to Mississippi his old home was Uniontown, Perry County, Alabama where he was in the mercantile business. The early part of our married life was spent in Uniontown. My husband and I were married in 1865. He had just one brother William Walke and two sisters, Susan now Susan Frazier and Virginia who married a Simmons. Virginia is dead. I do not know Susan Frazier’s husband’s name. I knew very little about my husband’s people. Susan Frazier was alive the last I heard of her. But that has been I suppose 30 years ago. I guess she lived in Perry County, Alabama about Uniontown. Her husband was a farmer. He didn’t own any farm and moved about a great deal. She was the oldest one of the children and if living, she would be quite old. She would be up in eighty if living. Years ago I heard that William Walke was dead but I do not know when or where he died. That was before my husband died. I don’t remember anything about how or from whom I got the information that he was dead. I just remember hearing that he was dead. I knew very little about him...He didn’t stay about Uniontown much after I married. I have no knowledge that William was married more than once. I didn’t know his wife and never saw them after they were married and know nothing about it. He married Miss Talbert. She lived in Alabama and her father was a preacher. I think a Baptist preacher. I heard she died not long after they were married. I think they were married before I was, but I can’t tell you, I don’t know. I heard that William lived in Texas...I do not know when the father and mother of my husband died, of yes, they died before I was married long before. I am not sure but I think they died in Dallas County [Alabama]...William Walke was a wild, reckless drinking man and just drifted away from my husband and they did not keep in correspondence with one another. (Question) It is alleged that William Walke married Susan F. Lee in Texas in San Jacinto County, July 1866 that in October 1866 he received a letter from his brother Jack Walke, wrote him that his parents were dead and for him to come back to Alabama and help settle up the estate. That he, William Walke went back to Alabama finished up the business and started on his return to Texas by boat, that the boat was blown up and William Walke was killed. Did you ever hear this before? (Answer) “I do not remember ever hearing it before. His parents were dead before I was married. I do not remember anything about any settlement of my husband’s father’s estate during my husband’s lifetime and after I was married. My husband and I were living in Uniontown, Alabama in 1866 a short run from Selma, Alabama. I do not recall that I ever heard that William Walke was in Alabama after October 1866. (Deposition of Mrs. S. Rebecca Lockhart read to deponent) Mrs. Lockhart is a cousin of my husband and William Walke...”

Mrs. S.[Sarah] Rebecca Lockhart, on 20 Apr 1909, age 69 [born 1840], post office address Dayton, Marengo County, Alabama. “I am Postmaster at this place.

“I am a daughter of the late Anthony P. Walke. He had a brother named John M. Walke, who had two sons, one named “Jack” and the other William. The latter’s full name was William Carrington Walke. I have my father’s old Family Bible, and I show you the record therein of the date of his birth and his first marriage. The same shows that the said William Carrington Walke was born in Cumberland County, Virginia on August 2, 1834 and that he was married to Mary Tolbert, daughter of John Tolbert in Wilcox County, Alabama. The date of such marriage is not shown, but I have a personal recollection that it was in 1865. I think that it was in the fall. He lived with this wife, to my personal knowledge in this country until her death. She did not live more than a year. I was present when she died. She has a sister, Mrs. Black, mother of John Buck [sic] at Thomaston, this county. If William C. Walke had ever been married before his marriage to Mary Tolbert, I never heard of it. He went to Texas about the beginning of the War and enlisted there with some Confederate Regiment, and was wounded in 1862 in the leg. He then came back here and remained until after his first wife died, as stated. He remained here only a short time after the death of the first wife. He was supposed to have gone back to Texas somewhere, I don’t know where and have no idea. He may have been back here after that, one time, but I cannot say positively now. The next I heard of him was when I heard that some woman in Texas somewhere had written back to Colonel Lee near Uniontown, now dead, asking whether William Walke had been back here, saying that he had left his wife out there. Cannot recall the exact time that letter was written, but I believe that it was before the close of 1866. I heard after that, that William Walke was living in Texas, and was with a Charley England, who had ran away from this country with tax collections. Don’t know what became of him. I have never heard at anytime that William Walke was killed by the explosion of a boat between Mobile and New Orleans. His father died in 1862 and not 1866, and he left no property. His mother died just one day after his father, of smallpox. William Walke’s brother “Jack” is dead, but his widow, Mrs. Hollie Walke, now resides in this county, at Farmsdale. He had no other brother, and but one sister, Susan, who married a Frazier, but I do not know her whereabouts, if living...The correct spelling of the name is Walke. William C. Walke was a very wild fellow, a gambler and absolutely reckless fellow. I would not be surprised to hear that he deserted his wife...I believe that William C. Walke’s first wife died in February 1866.”

Anthony Tony Walke, age 63, Farmer, post office address Thomaston, Marengo County, Alabama on 10 Jun 1909 said “I am a son of Anthony P. Walke and William and Jack Walke were the sons of Jack Walke who was my father’s brother. I knew cousin William very well as long as he staid in this community where he was raised. He was principally raised around Orrville, Dallas County and lived some about Uniontown before he went away from Alabama. He went to Texas just before the war broke out and enlisted and served in a Texas regiment of the Confederate Army. He came home here from Virginia in 1862 and brought the smallpox and his father and mother both died of smallpox in 1862. Cousin William came back here right after the war and during the fall of 1865 he married “Puss” Talbert and lived with her until she died about 1866. I think it was, and then he went to Texas and staid there about one or two years when he came back here and staid only two days then went off and we have never know what became of him. I think his first wife here lived a year or maybe longer for I remember that she had a child and died within a few weeks. Cousin William did not tell me when I saw him the last time that he had married again since going to Texas but I heard after he was gone that he had told someone that he had married again. I also heard that Cousin William tried to get money when he was here and that cousin Jack would not let him have it and that cousin William said when he left here that he did not intend to let cousin Jack ever hear from him any more. I know that cousin William has not lived anywhere in this section of country since soon after the war. I don’t know when it was that cousin William came back here and staid two days but I would say that he staid in Texas one or two years after going out there before he came back here. I saw him when he came back here. No Sir, I never heard that cousin William was blown up in a steamboat when on his way back to Texas. Never heard that he was a convict or guard or clerk in any penitentiary. He told me when he left here that he was going back to Texas. I do not know what became of him after he left here. Some man came here some years ago and told me that he knew a big family of Walkes up in Walker County, Alabama and I have thought that cousin William might have gone up there and settled...The name if very uncommon and it may be cousin William Walke who is up there.” Note: In 1880 “Tony” had his mother, Mary E. Walke, age 61 and his sister, L. Rebecca Walke, age 36, living with him. Both his parents were born in Virginia.

John M. Talbert, age 67, Farmer, post office address Corley, Alabama (nine miles south of Uniontown, Perry County, Alabama, on 10 Jun 1909 said: “I remember William Walke very well, he married my sister Mary Elizabeth about the fall of 1865 or winter of 1866. I think it was in the fall of 1865. She was his first wife and she died soon after their first child was born. The child also died. There is no record of her death nor any tombstone over her grave. I don’t remember the date of my sister’s death. I was in Texas when she died and Bill Walke came there to where I was and staid with me a few days and left and I have never seen him since. I was in Fayette County about five miles northwest of Fayetteville [Texas]. That was I reckon during the year 1866 or 67. No it could not have been in 1868 for I went to Texas during the fall of 1867 and it was during that fall or during the next year when William Walke came out there. I have looked through my father’s old books and I find that Mary E. Talbert was married to William Walk on September 27, 1865 and I see that my father bought a horse for me on October 10, 1867 and I remember that I left immediately after he let me have the horse and rode through to Texas. Father also has charged to my sister on November 4, 1867 “paid bill of goods to Perkins $105.10.” That is the last charge to her which would indicate that she was alive at that time. In the same account against my sister is a cow and calf on March __67 and June 17, 1867 bill of goods from Perkins $44.20. I am sure that my sister did not die until after I went to Texas and that I did not go until I got that horse on October 10, 1867 as shown by father’s old record as you can see. The book falls short the date of sister’s death but I remember that I did not know that she was dead until William Walke came out there and told me about it. Father died during the spring, summer of fall of 1868 and I came back here from Texas in the fall of 1868. No Sir, William Walke never came back here after I came back here from Texas. I heard that he married in Texas after my sister died here and I later heard that he was in the penitentiary and I afterwards heard that he was there as a clerk of some kind. I don’t know what penitentiary he was said to be in but I supposed that it was in Texas. I could not tell how I heard of him being in the penitentiary. I heard that he deserted the second wife and I supposed at first that she had caused his imprisonment and later I heard that he was not a prisoner but was there as a clerk.

“No Sir, I never heard that William Walke was blown on a boat while on his way from here to Texas. I don’t think he ever came back here after I saw him in Texas. I feel quite positive that he could not have come back here after I came back here for I would, it seems, have known of it.”

Jos. P. Hollis, age 54, retired Farmer, residence Uniontown, Perry County, Alabama on 11 Jun 1909 said “I remember William Walke very well. I first knew him in 1865 when he came to the home of his uncle Anthony Walke who lived within half a mile of my home. I was at the “in fair” at Anthony Walke’s after William Walke was married and came there. I knew his wife before he married her. She was Miss Talburt [sic] and they were married away from our neighborhood. My idea is that they were married in the fall of 1865 and that the wife died about a year later. William Walke left within a month after she died and went to Texas and I never saw him any more nor did I ever hear or know that he came back here at any time later. The only information that I had of William Walke after that was through a conversation which I heard through his uncle Anthony Walke and my father who is dead. Mr. Walke told my father that he had a letter from William Walke in which he stated that he was then a guard in the penitentiary. I remember the conversation very well because Mr. Anthony Walke said that he wished he was there as a convict instead of a guard and my father was very much tickled by what Mr. Anthony Walke said about it. I cannot tell when that was nor what penitentiary William Walke was guarding at but I would suppose that it was about 1869 or 1870 and my impression is that it was the Mississippi penitentiary where he claimed to be a guard. No Sir, I never heard that William Walke was blown up on a steamboat.”

Cleveland A. “Bud” Terrell, age 65, Mayor of Uniontown, on 10 Jun 1909 said “I remember Jack and William Walke very well. Their father was called Jack Walke and lived and died right here in the edge of town. Jack Jr. and I were messmates during the Civil War in Company D, 4th Alabama Infantry. The other brother, Bill Walke belonged to a Texas Regiment, the 3rd Texas I think. His regiment and mine were together a good deal during the first year of the war. I remember the circumstances of the Walke boys’ parents’ death. They came home during 1862 in the fall of the year and on their way home they were exposed to smallpox which broke out after they got here and their parents contracted the disease from them and died. I was at home sick at the time and I know it was between September and December 1862 when the parents died. Old man Jack Walke was a very poor man and left no property at the date of his death. William Walke married a preacher’s daughter here in Alabama in 1865 or 66 and I understand that she died and that William Walke married again in Louisiana, Texas or somewhere away from here. I don’t know what became of William Walke. I don’t remember that he ever came back here after he went out west and remarried. No I never hear that William Walke ever came back here to settle up any estate. Never knew of any property falling to any of the Walke family. Old man Jack Walke had had property but had lost it all long before his boys William and Jack were grown. If I remember correctly William Walke’s first wife was the daughter of Reverend Talburt [sic]. No Sir, I never heard that William Walke was blown up on a steam boat between here and Texas.”

Mrs. Susan Francis (Lee) Walke married a second time to Abednego G. Malcolm. The above statements were found in his Mexican War Pension Record, WC-15036. Census information from Ancestry.com.

In 1850 John M. Walke b. 1794 was farming in Athens, Dallas County, Alabama. With him was his wife Clementine M. born 1810; Martha S. born 1830; Sally N. born 1832; William born 1833; Jack born 1835 and Virginia C. born 1838. All were born in Virginia except Virginia who was born in Alabama.

In 1860 J. M. Walker [Walke] is in Woodville, Perry County, Alabama (Union Town Post Office). His wife and Virginia are living with him.

In 1860 A. P. Walk [Anthony P. Walke], Grocery Merchant, is in Woodville, Perry County, Alabama (Union Town Post Office) with his wife M. E. [Mary E.], daughters S. R. [Sarah Rebecca], Eloise, Laura; son A. T. [Anthony Tony] and J. P., Clerk, born 1836 [This may be John M. Walke’s son John Paul “Jack” Walke].

In 1880 Minnie Frazier is living with Sallie Reynolds and her husband Richard in Marengo County, Alabama.

In 1880 Anthony T. Walke is living in McKinley, Marengo, County, Alabama and has his mother, Mary E. Walke and his sister, S. Rebecca Walke living with him.

There is a record of a W. C. Walke serving in Company D, 5th Regiment, Texas Infantry. He enlisted as a Private and was discharged as a Corporal. Company D was named “The Waverly Confederates, volunteers were raised from Waverly, Walker and Montgomery Counties in Texas.
Hi..I am looking for any information concerning my Martin Family. My great Grand Father was W. D. Martin. He came to Magalia (Dog Town)(Calif) from Tennessee. Then moved to the Tehama County area. His first wife Minerva Lloyd passed and he married Nancy Taylor Hatton in Colusa County (Calif) in 1869 and had several more children. Nancy's daughter from her first marriage (Edna Hatton) married a Bondurant as did W.D.'s oldest daughter Melinda Catherine Martin.

I am trying to locate info on any Hatton's or Bondurant's in our area that may be able to help me with photos and information. I had heard there were some Hatton's in the Monterey area.

I have all of the information on W.D. and his children up until he passes March 1914 in Glenn County.

Thank you in advance...Wendy Deakins

Is anyone familiar with the William McKee and Mary A. Frazier who were married in Perry County in Jan. 1837? Is this the same William McKey who was in Walker County, AL in 1850 and in Nacogdoches County, TX in 1860? If so, I think I may be a descendant. Can anyone shed light on the families of this couple?

Sheriff in Perry County, circa 1830 - any publications?

One of my ancestors, William Golden, was a sheriff in Perry County, Alabama. He died about 1831 in Bibb County, Alabama. I'm not sure the years he was a sheriff but does any one know of any publication about sheriffs in that time? I would love to find a biography about him (wouldn't we all love those biographies) or just the years he was sheriff.

Thanks,

Felicia

I am looking for any info on the Hughey Family from Perry County, came from around the Selma area. They were sharecroppers. The family I am looking for lost three to four children in a fire around late 1880/1890's. Before they moved to Oklahoma. Any info would be greatly appreciated since not much is known except for their surviving children and their families. The surviving children's name were Comer, Guy, General Pershing, Thomas Heflin, Woodrow Wilson, May, Zula, Bertha, and Madeline. Mrs Hughey was a Holly from Texas, one of Buddy Holly's relatives. That is about all I know. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
David
I would like for anyone that knows about the Claiborne Columbus Howard family to get in contact with me.(nelda3731 at suddenlink dot net)

I believe they lived near Severe Beat in 1850. I do not know the location of this town but know that he owned about 600 acres there. Anyone that could tell me about the place and where he and his wife might be buried would be greatly appreciated.

I believe my g grandfather was the youngest child of this couple. Eliza Brown Howard and Claiborne C. Howard. I would like to know of a book that would tell about the county during the years 1865-1880 and if Perry county is still the same size now as it was then.

Thank you
Nelda

I am trying to find the family of William P. Griffin, Born inAla on July 8, 1831. He had a brother born in Ala. Isaac
W. Griffin, Born Nov 2, 1825. William P. married Elizabeth
Jackson of Tenn, Born April 23, 1829. Isaac married Martha
????. Dates are unkown. I suspect there was more in the
family then the above two. I have heard that the father
might be Andrew J. Griffin, but not proven. They came up
thru Tenn and then to Pope County, Illinois in the early
1850s and was picked up on the census of 1860.In this census
there was a person in the household of Isaac by the name of
Hester A. Age 65. I suspect this was the widow of either
Andrew or Marthas Mother. I do know know the part of Ala
they were born, etc. If anyone has information on this family I would surely appreciate it. It could be Perry
county, or Bibb, or Hale, or others. Thanks Jim

Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR b. 1823 SC, d. 1860 Perry Co., AL., m. Wm. Wesley TAYLOR

Hi Group,

When I started my interest in genealogy about 6 years ago, I did as I am sure many others before and after me have done and basically accepted anything I saw on the internet about my ancestors as fact. Now I am finding that much of the fact that I have is fiction.

Recently I have come to believe that I might have attributed Mary LAGRONE to the wrong set of parents. My family tree lists John and Catherine RINHART LAGRONE as her parents as do all of the family trees I have come across on internet. However, the 1850 census doesn't seem to support this theory even though Mary and Wm. TAYLOR were living beside John and Catherine LEGRONE.

1850 Census Perry Co., AL. Oldtown

Household 169

TAYLOR, Wm. 25 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 23 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 2 AL

Household 170

LEGRONE, John 60 SC
LEGRONE, Catherine 50 SC
LEGRONE, Henry 21 SC
LEGRONE, Mary 16 SC

Household 171

LEGRONE, Martin 35 SC
LEGRONE, Martha 34 SC
(This couple was married in Perry Co., March 28, 1849 and her maiden name was Lagrone.)

Now since John and Catherine had their own Mary living with them it doesn't seem likely that Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR is also their daughter.

If I am reading "The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" correctly on Marc Carlson's website,
http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc-carlson/lgrone/hypodoc....
Henry and Mary MNU LAGRONE are the parents of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR.

"The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" further states that Martha LAGRONE who married Martin LAGRONE (purported to be the son of John and Catherine Rinehart) is the sister of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR. This tends to be supported by the 1860 Census in which Widow Martha LAGRONE and daughter Rachael are living with the TAYLORs.

1860 Census Perry Co., AL. Marion

TAYLOR, Wm. 36m Farmer SC
TAYLOR, Mary 37f Wife SC
TAYLOR, Martha A. M. 11f AL
TAYLOR, Mary 10f AL
TAYLOR, Nancy S. 7f AL
TAYLOR, Johnson F. 4m AL
TAYLOR, Henry Rufus 2m AL
LAGRONE, Martha 42f Widow SC
LAGRONE, Rachael D. 5f AL

I am looking for further evidence that Henry LAGRONE is the father of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR to help support my theory. Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone offer any further documentation to help me settle the matter of Mary's ancestry?

Thanks,

Joni Creel Bohacheff
3rd Great-granddaughter of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR
Looking for descendants of John DOBBINS and Phebe PEARSON who migrated to Perry County from Newberry, SC, about 1835. Parents of 7 children: Elizabeth (GENTRY), Reason, Washington, Emanuel, Daniel, Sarah, Oza. Oza named them in his will dated 1863 but they were not named in the probate in 1864. Where are John and Phebe buried? Reason married Mathilda WOOD and after her death Nancy McLAUGHLIN (PAYNE). Reason and Nancy moved to Louisiana with other Perry County residents about 1845. Other children/ grandchildren married into LaGRONE and GENTRY families. Any assistance appreciated.
