Looking for any information on Millie Russell who was married to Thomas Spears. They had a daughter, Mae Atryce Spears, who was born in 1883 in Mena Arkansas and was married to Roland Douglas Miller. I have some connections through family and friends to the Millers.

Am trying to find more information on Millie Russell for the widow of Aaron Russell Miller, my cousin who lives in Polk County.

I found Millie with husband Thomas Spears on the 1880 Logan County census, born 1854, Arkansas, which indicated that both her parents were born in Kentucky. Found a descendant to Thomas Spears who had learned that she had died in 1888. I haven't been able to find death record or any other earlier census information on her parent's names.

Thank you for reading.

Frances
farussell@verizon.net
Hi, Marie. I am the son of Floyd Newton Eddleman and the grandson of Ira Elsworth Eddleman. I have just found out about William Alexander Bascom Eddleman and his family within the past couple of years. I have often wondered why Ira moved to Polk County Arkansas about 1900. Now, I presume that it is because he had a brother living here, W. A., and maybe another brother (at least he lived in Polk County for a few years), James Elbert Franklin Eddleman. My father died in 1974. Several years later, when I was goin through some of his old papers I found a copy of a letter he'd written to Lilous (in response to one she'd written him, which I still have). She was requesting information about W. A. and his family. I also have the letter, or probably a copy of it, that he wrote to her. Didn't realize who Lilous was until recently. I've dug up quite a bit of information about W. A. and his family, which I'm willing to share. But there's still a lot I don't know. Is Talmon a brother to Lilous? William Alexander had a son named William N.(what does that stand for? my dad and his brother Roy Clayton always called him "Billy"), and he had a son named Billy I.? Is that correct?

Hello
I am so glad to finally hear from somenone who might be looking for this man. I really do not know who his brothers names were. I only know that he was married to Harriet Seward in Missouri and they moved to Oklahoma somewhere around Mena in the mid 1870's.
The wife and children were later found in DeQueen, AR in 1900.

Later histories are showing him in Texas, but I have not found him yet.

Sandra McFerren

I believe that Dora Mayes Story is Maise Story, identified as the mother of Joan Marlar on the girl's OK death certificate. Joan died October 5, 1937, at the age of 6 years, of Elixir Sulfanilamide poisoning. In the contemporary press, her mother was identified as Mrs. Maise Nidiffer. Joan's father is listed on the death cert as "R. R. Marlar," born in Arkansas. I'm interested in contacting any living family members/descendents as part of a historical investigation.

Strange request, I used to be in contact with Brent Cowgur, he did research for me on Laymon Cowgur. My grandpa was Virgil Monroe Cowger. I really have just always wanted to see a picture of Laymon. It is a strange request I know, but my grandfather's birth certificate has a Laymon Monroe Cowger listed on it, he never knew his dad and he passed away in 2006. We don't even really know if this was his dad and by no means want to cause a big up roar, I am just curious to see a picture of Laymon. I think it would be really neat, but I don't want this to be a terrible thing, that is why I have waited so long to ask, because I would hate for your aunt if she is still living or her siblings to think oh my goodness my dad had a child before me, because like I said we don't know anything for sure, that is just the name listed on the certificate. My great grandmother never told him anything about his dad. My grandpa was from Illinois FYI. Well I hope this is not a truly crazy email. I am really sorry if it is. Brent gave me some contact information a long time ago that I suppose you had sent him, but I just couldn't bring myself to call someone about this. So I thought I would at least take this chance on an email. Thanks, Amanda

I too have been searching for Richard Green. If we are looking for the same person. he is a brother to William Washington Green. I have seen one note saying that Richard died in Oklahoma. Another that he died in Montogomery County AR at the home of his son Thomas. The last thing I know for certain is that he is listed in the Pike County AR census in 1870. I went to the Antioch Cemetery in Polk County AR where William is buried and did not see a grave for
Richard.

Your great-great grandmother Canzada Abernathy was the daughter of Elizabeth Fitzgibbons, whose mother, Susan Fletcher Fitzgibbons, was the sister of my great-great-great-grandmother, Sarah Fletcher Smith. I would love to have information on your line of Abernathys and Fitzgibbons if you want to share, and can send you what I have on the Fletchers.

Hello. This is good information, but I dont think it answers the question of why the Walton / Bruce family was living in indian territory in 1900. They may have been invited guests or related to / working with the freedmen, but one of them may have had an indian ancestor. Let me know if anyone finds out more through a website or reservation contact or another source. Thanks.

This record is the only record that I have of my mother's young brother, Charles, who was born in 1912 and died in 1926. The Polk County Cemetery inscriptions, both editions, missed the graves of my grandparents and Charles. I have pictures and Mother's notes, but this is important to me.

Again, thank you.

Thanks very much for the information.

My grandmother, mother and aunt are unsearchable on the 1930 Census; however I unexpectedly found them, first names only, as I was looking at the handwritten copy for a neighbor or relative, I knew I had found them because I knew their names and birth dates, and my mother's occupation was listed as "teacher." My grandfather died in 1931 and should have been listed, but would have been at the bottom of the previous page, which was not included in the original record, therefore making it impossible to search and find the Sims name.

The 1910 Census surname was transcribed as "Diana", but I recognized the family members' names. I can certainly understand the difficulty of the task for the transcriptionist when handwriting is illegible.

Now I will search on Dimes so I can have a copy of the original for my records.

Thank you very much for your work and willingness to help.

Frances Russell
farussell@verizon.net

I was able to view all 1920 census records for Polk County and went through all that were Mena.

Does anyone have any idea why the 1920 census records for Mena do not include the ward or section of Mena (south side - second, third, fourth streets) where my mother's Sims family lived. I have found 1910; accidentally found a 1930 partial record listing first names only for my grandmother, mother and aunt, when I was looking for someone else on the original census record. I didn't find it when I searched for the family names.

I was able to find three sets of 1920 records for different wards, but never have been able to find my family in 1920. I looked at about 60 individual records on the three handwritten originals. I found names of many of her classmates and friends in other areas of town.

Frances Russell
farussell@verizon.net

I am not descended from any of the Sundermans, but I noticed Ernestine Sunderman's name. She and I were friends in high school; graduated from Mena High School in 1954. I think I have a school picture of her, and a picture of the graduating class. She and I had overnight visits in both our homes.

I moved with my family to Wichita, Kansas shortly after graduation, but when we visited kin in Mena, I would go by and see her. Sadly she passed away not too many years after our graduation from a heart condition. She was probably born in 1936 or 1937. I was the youngest class member.

I believe her sister was married to the Polk County sheriff at that time. I wish I could remember names.

I have things that I need to do today and tomorrow, but I will find the pictures that I have and post them here when I can. I will also check my Polk County Cemetery books for the names you have listed.

Best wishes,
Frances Russell
farussell@verizon.net

Hi,

I'm interested in what you know or have about the SLOTE/SCHLOTT/SLOAT family. I've traced my line back to John SLOTE (Schlott, Slott, Sloat) b abt 1808 per census records. His wife's name was Catherine. He was a blacksmith, as was his son, William B Slote. He and his wife and family lived in Blue Ball in 1850 and 1860, and in Earl/New Holland in 1870. The were neighbors of the SHIRK family at two of those places.
Children are:
William B. born Oct 5, 1829
Susanna 1833,
Anna 1836,
Samuel 1838,
Joseph 1840,
Byram (Hiram?) 1841,
George 1843,
Heny 1846,
Elijah 1849

Thanks for your help!

Robert

Hi Jim, Would be thrilled to talk with you about our family history. I only have pictures of my Dad. When I get a scanner I'll e-mail it to you. One in particular was taken when he was about 25. Very handsome, with coal black hair and blue eyes. I have never seen any pictures of my Grandfather or his parents. My e-mail is wmae_0407@yahoo.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Willie Mae
