His mother took her family and moved to Hunt Co., TX. It is thought that Edward O. Young was the father of John T. Edward O. and his wife, Susanna, had Harriet, Andrew, Minerva, Mahala, Alsey, William E., Silas, and John T. Do you have any other information on this family? Thanks, Darla

I believe Belle was possibly raised by an Aunt and Uncle or perhaps just neighbors whom she was left with, in or around Dennard AR. Her mother died when she was 5 years old or younger. I was told that her father left her with someone to go to town for something and simply never came back to get her. If anyone has any clues as to who might have raised her or who her parents were that would be great.

I was told her last name was ARLIN but after looking at a document that was sent to me with her name on it, I believe with the way the handwriting was then it is actually ARBIN.

My tree goes Zachariah Talmadge> Zachariah Taylor> Ashford> Nathan> Joshua (brother to Henry)> Joshua. In South Carolina I have that Joshua Pettit and Henry Pettit first showed up there on the 1790 census. I have Henry's Rev. War Pension naming his father as Joshua Pettit. I find FGS naming his line as Joshua(from my line)>Joshua>Thomas>Thomas>Henri but I am not finding any documentation to support this. I live in Arkansas and am just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find the documentation that will support this information?

After discovering the Shady Grove cem. listings posted in the rootsweb archives, I found that several members (all children) of Otis Allen's family (loc. in Holley twp., VB Co. in 1930 census) all died on the same day, March 16, 1940. I'm guessing that there was a fire, but if there are newspapers from the era saved or microfilmed, I'm sure the tragedy would have been reported and from that account I could learn what happened. If anyone has access to these newspapers, if they exist at all, I would greatly appreciate any information regarding the event. You may post here or email me directly at cblyeth@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!

EASON-STEWARD/T family links

I posted this on the VanBuren Co. website, but thought I would post here hopefully to find some answers.

Looking for information about John Eason, born about 1790/92 NC, lived in AL before coming to VanBuren Co, ARK. It appears he had a son, John b: about 1828 AL, William b: abt 1834 d: 1862 Richmond KY civil war wounds, Richard b: abt 1836 AL listed as deserted, but I can't find him on census records. Living with John Sr., was a Martha EASON b: abt 1830, who I thought was a second wife, but now this it was his daughter. She is listed as WD and S on census records. She is also listed as "aunt" on the census where she is in Bethany's son's (Mansel) house. She later lived with Bethany STEWARD b: abt 1832 and her daughter Bashaba STEWARD-BLEVINS. I am trying to find proof/information connecting Bethany/Elizabeth as a daughter of John EASON Sr.

Samuel STEWARD/T, husband of Bethany, also died in the war. He had a sister, Olly b:abt 1831 AL who was married to a WATERS. She was widowed early and also lived in VanBuren Co. with 2 children.

I believe Samuel's other sister, Mary b: abt 1828 AL was first married to a WALLEY/WALLY, then married John EASON Jr. because there are WALLY boys living with them in 1860 VanBuren ARK, and in St. Clair Co., AL in 1850.

One more possible connection, Samuel STEWARD's father possibly married a Mary EASON in 1845 in St. Clair, AL. The 1850 census lists her as Polly.
I believe Samuel's father was William STEWARD, first married to Edy/Eda BATTLES, also St. Clair, AL.

I would appreciate ANY info on the EASON's and/or STEWARD's.
Thank you, Cynthia

"Banner" newspaper Van Buren Co., AR. Where can I find obits?

Item #1. Looking for obit for Francis Simeon (F. S. or Frank) Bradford, died by drowning at Bee Branch, Van Buren Co., AR ca. 1890, buried in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, Van Buren Co., AR. He is my great grandfather. I don't think the "Democrat" was in existence yet, so believe any obit would be in the old "Banner." I have the obit from the "Arkansas Methodist," but it doesn't have the complete facts.

Item #2. I have a huge, gaping hole in my research regarding a Lucy Bradford, b. ca. 1890, perhaps child of F.S. and wife Minerva Eva (Cavender) (Finton) Bradford. My family spoke often of all their aunts and uncles, but a "Lucy" was never mentioned. Perhaps she died young and an obit might appear in the "Banner."

Item #3. Also looking for an obit for Francis' sister Alice Jane (Bradford) Emerson, wife of Henry Columbus (H. C. or Lum) Emerson. She also died by drowning, along with seven of her nine children ca. 1888 in Van Buren Co., AR. I have her obit from the "Arkansas Methodist," which includes a short, heart-wrenching sketch of each of the seven young children who were lost.
Any help in locating a source for lookups relating to the "Banner" will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, K. Knight

I am looking for information on the parents of my grandfather, Charles Arthur Chrisco. According to the information I have, they were Robert Franklin Chrisco b. Nov. 11, 1853 in Mississippi , d. Feb 3, 1916 in Van Buren County, Bee Branch AR and Nancy Ann Elizabeth Birdsong b. Nov. 27, 1857 (this info is listed on Charlie's obit). They were married in Marshall Cty, Mississippi Dec. 16, 1874. I have found property information dated March 7, 1902 where he owned a homestead of 80 acres in Van Buren County(name was listed as Robert F Chisco) and that he is buried in Pine Mt. Cemetary. I've been told that his father was named William and that he was born abt 1810-1820 in North Carolina, but I can't find information of any kind on his parents. I would appreciate any help and will be glad to share the information I have on my family. Thank You!

William Maddox, b. 1773 in Goochland Co., Va., died in Van Buren Co., AR c.1838. He married Nancy Harrington about 1800. I believe they might be the parents of my William Maddox b. 1805 (m. Nancy Brandenburg in Ky. in 1826).

His children were John, William, Samson Sanford, Foster, Susannah, Eliza, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Francis, Milton, Catherine. I have always believed my William (b. 1805) was from Goochland Co., Va. became of a Maddox-Sanford marriage there in mid 1700s. I had hoped to see her last resting place in person and get a picture of it. Now I don't know what to think. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks for any help. Judy Curtis Jackson

Would like to trace the history of Zilphia or Zilpha, possibly a slave owned by Thomas Jefferson Compton, and the mother of Arminta Compton with Thomas Jefferson Compton. Arminta was taken from Phillips County to Van Buren County, passing as white, although her father was 3/4 Native American (Sioux and Cherokee or Choctaw) and her mother was African. It is possible that Zilphia lived in Van Buren also, with the last name of Compton, perhaps marrying later. Arminta was raised with Martha Stephens Bradford Compton as step-mother. Arminta married James Curtis Mills. They are my ggrandparents.

The Bradford and Dickerson family have a relationship that Im a bit confused about.Louisa Dickerson wed Bennett Bradford lived in Vanburen county. William R Bradford supposedly a brother to Bennett also lived in Vanburen county. In 1860 some of the children of Bejamin Dickerson and Mary (see 1850 Jackson county TN census)are residing with the William Bradford family I am trying to figure out what to make of it. In the 1850 census for Jackson you will also find living with Benjamin Dickerson a Bennett Dickerson !! is this a coincidence or more than that??? Is Benjamins wife possibly a Bradford? or is Louisa Dickerson wife of Bennett Bradford a daughter of Benjamin Dickerson he is old enough to be so and resides in 1840 White county TN. said to be where Louisa weds Bennett.Do one of the Dickerson children apparently orphaned wed into the William Dickerson family.I am unsure what to make of it all.

I would appreciate any suggestions as I am hoping someone might know of the Dickerson family I speak of and be aware of Benjaminss wifes name.

Brett
Nathan "Uncle Nath" was my grandfather and was married to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Huggins. Grandpa was born in 1885. My father was Troy and he was born in 1908. I have been told that they moved from Shirley when Daddy was approx 12 years old. Daddy had 3 sisters, Lois (Pete), Willie (Bill) and Grace. He had 1 brother, Buster. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I know that there are still lots of Bradfords living in the Shirley area.
Jasper Uriah, James Jefferson and Samuel Webb

I am looking for any information on Jasper Uriah WEBB, Samuel WEBB, and James Jefferson WEBB. These guys were brothers who were born in Tennessee.
James Jefferson WEBB was born c: 1825 in Tennessee. Some of the time he went by Jeff. He is found in 1850 census in Van Buren County, Arkansas, in 1860 census Carrol Co, Ark. He died March 2 1863 after serving in General McGray's Reg. Infantry Ark Confederates. His wife was Elizabeth (possibly PRICE) born Aug 1834 in Tenn. She is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Van Buren County, Arkansas. Their children were: Amanda b. May 1850 married to Manion Ellis; Margaret Lucinda b. June 6, 1851 married to John Hall; Rice A.V. b. 1852; Martha J b. Feb 1853 married to Columbus Music; Jasper Uriah (named after his uncle) b. Jan 1856 married to Elizabeth Brickey and died Aug 12, 1923 in Atkins Ark.(my line); Nancy A. b 1858 married to Alfred Jones; Lovey A.C. b. March 1860. All children born in Arkansas.
Samuel WEBB was born abt 1831 in Tennessee. I have only found him with his brother in the 1880, 1900 and 1910 census in Tulare County, California, Tule River Township. He was a widow at that point. He purchased land in California March 19, 1904. There is a death record for a Sam Webb (son of John and Margaret Hicks Braden) in the Flagg-Webb Cemetery, but I don't know for sure if this is the same Samuel Webb. I don't have any of his children's names, his wife's name or where they lived before 1880.
Jasper Uriah WEBB was born Jan 11, 1825 in Tennessee, died Oct 14, 1919 in Van Buren County, Arkansas after returning from California. He is listed in the 1880, 1900, and 1910 Census of Tulare County, California, Tule River Township. Samuel and Jasper lived together in all 3 census. He never married according to his obituary.
This is all I have on these three persons. Does anyone have any information or belong to these guys??? Rebecca

What is connection between Sarah Stephens and Turneys 1860s?

There seem to be two Sarah Stephens about the same time, I am interested in the heir of Robert Stephens.

census records:
1860 census in house of Hannah Turney is a Sarah Stephens age 9

court records:
Daniel Turney (son of Hannah and also in her house in 1860 census) made guardian of Sarah Stephens 15 Jul 1859
Sarah - minor heir of Robt Stephens 14 Oct 1859

Sarah Stephens 14 July 1870 J.H. Turney made guardian

1870 census
in house of John W. Turney is Sarah Stephens age 19
John's wife at this time is Martha Jane Bittle

marriage records:
Sarah E. Stephens married Samuel H. Bittle 08 August 1871 in VBC AR.

why was this Sarah Stephens (heir of Robert) connected to the Turneys? First Daniel Turney is her guardian, then John W. Turney (grandson of Hannah) is guardian. The switch might be because John Turney's wife was a Bittle and about a year later Sarah Stephens married a Bittle.....

court records show another Sarah Stephens - perhaps an heir of a James Stephens
Sarah L. Stephens - minor under 14 - W.K. Bradford guardian dated 16 July 1863
Nancy Stephens - minor of James - A. Holenbeck guardian 16 July 1863
Sarah Jane Stephens, widow in court recrds dated 17 Jul 1863
from this I would assume: Sarah Jane was widow of James Stephens and Sarah L and Nancy Stephens both under 14 were his daughters.

Anyway - does anyone know about this Sarah Stephens who was heir of Robert Stephens and married a Bittle? Why was she partially raised by the Turneys?

Mary Turney Miller

The guy was not especially well known, that I know of.....so maybe there are more Van Buren people posted in this paper. I have someone looking into it but if you have any information I'd love to know. The paper was the Little Rock Times. What a find to get a death date that old out of Van Buren Co!!!!!! Let's see if there are more.

Your postings have helped alot so far on fathers side which is Arthur Brown, Elizabeth Hunt, that line, however I have more names to throw out there for I am stumped. Thomas Vance Maddox is my GG Grand father, my belated Grandfather passed away Dec 25 2004, Garner Dallas Maddox, whos father is James Maddox, and mother is Lilly Brown. I am stuck at Thomas Vance Maddox. Also I am very certian there is some indian blood here, Could anyone please tell me? Next on my list comes from my Mothers side, Her Name is Sandra Lee Wesson, b 8-14-44, in ca. Her Father and Grand father are both names William Turner Wesson both did aprox. 1 year apart, and in California. I believe around 77-78. William the first, was born in Alabama I believe, but not certian, was married to Luraina Bell (I know nothing more of her) she also died in ca. at a young age believed to be alzheimers, but was born somewhere by cheroke territory. His Father was Nathianal Wesson Emma Potts, then I have a Charolet Gollaher, Everest Dusrton, believed to be my grandmothers parents, she is a twin her name is Margret Durston, her sister is Maryane Durston.
Thomas V. Maddox md. Adaline Griggs Nov. 12, 1865 in Van Buren Co., AR

Thomas V. Maddox md. Adaline Griggs Nov. 12, 1865 in Van Buren Co., AR, they had two daughters Elizabeth Ann b. 1867 and Mary F. b. about 1869. I am assuming that Adaline died by 1871 because Thomas V. Maddox md. Mary (also refered to as Mollie on the census report) E. Thompson Jan. 1872 in Van Buren Co., AR. They had Benjamin H. b. 1872, Susan "Susie" M. b. 1874, William T. b. 1877, James S. b. 1880, Robert B. b. 1884, and Samuel J. b. 1886.
My interest is in finding out who Adaline Griggs' parents are, I have searched all the Griggs in Van Buren Co., AR and can not find anyone with a daughter Adaline in 1850 or 1860, I have not been able to find Thomas V. Maddox on the 1870 census either. I have found Thomas V. Maddox and family on the 1850, 1860, and 1880 census reports. Any help with this brick wall would be greatly appreciated.
Karen L.
Tucker Family in early to mid 1800s in Arkansas?

I am looking for a John, Thomas or possibly Alfred TUCKER that might have been living in Arkansas before 1845. The Tucker I am looking for might have married an Elizabeth Badeau from LA or MS. At one time we thought we had them connected to Jane Humphry, but that is not correct.
John Jefferson Tucker was born in 1845 in McComb, MS, the son of the above query.J.J. Tucker married (in 1875) Anneta Whitcomb of Covington St. Tam., LA. JJ. and Anetta named one of their sons, Thomas Brinsfield Tucker. There might be a Brinsfield connection. We are having a devil of a time finding out about his parentage. Family lore is very confusing and contridictory!
HELP, HELP, HELP!
Thanks,
Jana Rooke
