You found Captain James Alexander Lindsay Turner and his wife Nancy Pauline for me recorded as managers of Jewellery stores in Oakland in the 1927, 1933 and 1936 directories.

I have been trying to find the families of their sons Ian G and David L Turner, one of whom may still be alive.

I have some mementos which belonged to their father from World War 1 which I would like to reunite with blood relatives of his.

I know the sons were born in 1924 and 1926 in Alameda and left the University of California in 1949 and 1950 and I understand that Ian may have been on the University administration staff at one time. They were successful members of the Olympic Cal Crew in 1948 and won the gold medal for the rowing eights, held at Henley in the UK I believe.
He was the above mentioned Captain James Alexander Lindsay Turner (their father), a Scot who served in the first world war and later emigrated to the USA. He married nancy Pauline Ritchie.

I would be so grateful is you can help me to trace the family.

Another kind lady located the graves of James and Nancy at Mountain View Cemetry in Oakland (James died in 1956) and found out the following for me :-

Mrs. Turner was born in Scotland.

On programs in 1941, 42, 43 she is listed as State Music Chairman.

She had a broken leg in 1946.

She died in a plane crash April 21, 1953 at the age of 56. She was flying back from El Centro, where she had delivered a lecture and rehearsed PTA choral members for their participation in the State convention in Long Beach, held the following week.

At that time she lived at 242 John Street in Oakland. She was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland and came to the United States in 1922 and was married in Los Angeles. Her husband's name was James.

Nancy sang professionally as a contralto, in Europe and England and various parts of the US. She was a noted vocal teacher and directed adult education choral groups in Berkeley, Oakland and Alameda. She was also director of the Diablo Valley Choral in Walnut Creek and the Dorian Choral here. (- guess that means Oakland)

Her mother was alive when Nancy was killed. Her name was Marion Liddle Ritchie and was 94 at the time and lived in Leith, Scotland (where she directs the New Haven Fisherwoman's Choir). In 1952 her mother was given the Order of the British Empire in London, conferred upon her by the late King George VI.

Mrs. Turner had two sons - David Lindsey Turner of Seattle and Ian Gordon Turner who was on the administrative staff at University of California at Berkeley. Both were members of the championship 1948 Olympic Crew of U.C. (held at Henley). (They'd be in their 70's or 80's now, right?)

This information about the plane crash and her history is all taken from a newspaper article, but there is no heading on the newspaper. It was probably the Tribune but who knows.

I have tried to trace family through the University but with no luck. Can you suggest anything else please?
