I am sorry but I do not know how else to contact you. I have a difficult case. Seeking to find info on:
Catherine May HOULIHAN (May, 1877 - ???) married Bill Wilson in 1896. 1900 census for Oakland Ward 5, Alameda shows her as divorced.
Family history says that she died in Oakland, "under mysterious circumstances with a man, not her husband" and he apparently died too (this is not clear). Family says that a newpaper article was written in the Oakland paper for this "Mysterious circumstance" died pre-1929 in Oakland. Can you help or send me in the right direction?
I have searched and can get nothing.

She married Bill
Wilson in 1896. Lived/died in Oakland, pre 1929, according to family records.

I am looking for information about the family of Andrew and Inga Hansen who lived at 2422 Mary St. in Berkley. Edvard Skraastad gave this address at Ellis Island upon his arrival on Sept. 12, 1902 (to my uncle- Mr. Andrew Hansen). Andrew and Inga are listed in the 1900 census along with four children-George, Arthur, Edith, and Louis. In the 1880 census there are also an Edward and an Ida. One of the six children died before 1900. Andrew (Andreas) arrived in the USA on August 22, 1849. On December 12, 1867 he (using the name Andrew) arrived in NYC with his wife Inga. Their ages are listed as 41 and 19. His occupation is listed as miner. On the 1880 census his occupation is listed as watchman for a railroad company.
My great uncle , Edward Stad (Edvard Skraastad), also worked for the railraod. He was married to Lily but later was divorced. I have a family group picture which includes him and signed from Aunt Inga. It was sent to my grandmother-Edward's sister. I have not yet found out Inga's connection to my family. She may be my great grandmother's or great grandfather's older sister. I have not yet found her in the Norwegian census or church records. My second cousin in Kristiansand, Norway is also looking for her.

His first wife was Salome Duran Gonzales and they had 7 children, and his second wife is Casimira Gomez, they had 8 children. I'm related to the second wife. I think Margaret Walsh married twice. One to a Stetson and the other one might be a Hunt, not sure. She died 04-20-1958 in Los Angeles. She had a son Laverito telles born in 02-28-1914 and a daughter Rose Telles born in 04-16-1915? When the father died 04-23-1915 Margaret Walsh had to change her last name from Telles to Tellis because she could not find any work with a spanish sur-name. She also changed her son's name to Robert Patrick Tellis ( A Decorated World War 2 Veteran and served on the U.S.S SANTA FE ) and she adopted out Rose Telles because she could not take care of 2 children on her own. On the behalf of Rose Telles a lady named Miss Mcgillacuddy located Maggie Walsh & Robert Patrick Tellis (Mother & Son)in 1939 to find Rose Telles birth certificate because she will be attending U.C.L.A in California and after graduating she will get marry and will travel to Europe for their honey moon but she will need a passport to travel abroad. Unfortunately neither one of them had the birth certificate and thats the last time they heard anything from her. Robert Patrick Tellis (My grandfather) spent better part of 45 years trying to locate her. My grandfather died in May 2001 without knowing who was his sister. I believed she was adopted out from Florence Crittenton Home in Sacramento, California

Nellie Walsh, born ? , died as a baby
Joseph Walsh, born June 1887
Andrew Walsh, born Aug 1889
Ellen Elizabeth Walsh, born Nov 1890 or 1891, died 1972. (Married to Jack Basal)

John Albert Walsh, born 15 Aug 1892, died 20 Nov 1917 at Camp Lewis.
Catherine Walsh, born Oct 1894, died 29 Nov 1962.
Married to Harry Moline

May Walsh, born May 1896
Thomas Walsh, born May 1898
Attended as a first grader at Saint Patrick's School in 1907 Oakland , California.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Manuel Telles 1831-1909, First Wife (Salome Duran Gomez)

Children and Birth Dates.
Magdalina - 07/22/1851
Lonjino - 03/22/1857
Ynez - 04/20/1862
Trburcio - 08/11/1864
Luz - 03/18/1867
Francisco - 08/15/1869
Luz (2) - 06/15/1873

Manuel Telles 1831-1909 Second Wife (Casimira Gomez)

Children and Birth Dates.
Manuel - 08/06/1883
Married to Margaret Ann Walsh. Had 2 Children named Laverito Telles changed to Robert Patrick Tellis and Rose Telles.
Robert Patrick Tellis married to Angelina Benitez Born in 6-9-1921 and got married in 4-29-1945. Her father was Quirino Benitez born 6-12-1898 & Died 11-15-1969 and married to Maria Nino born 9-21-1901 & Died 7-25-1966. They Had 5 children.
The link to your original post does not work, but here is a reply.

You gave no birthdates. The following death index entry may be your Carl, and since he died in Santa Clara County, you might have better luck posting at the Santa Clara Board. You posted at the Alameda County Board.

CAULKINS CARL W Born: 08/03/1886 Mother: FROST Father: CAULKINS M Born: NEW YORK died: SANTA CLARA 02/03/1946 Age: 59 yrs

The following Arthur Frost Caulkins was born in 1924, so maybe he was a son of Carl W?? Again, the board for Los Angeles County may be better since that is where he passed away, if this is your guy.

CAULKINS ARTHUR FROST born: 09/18/1924
mother: ELPHIE father: CAULKINS M born: NEW YORK died: LOS ANGELES(19) 08/23/1946 age: 21 yrs

The above is from the California Death Index at

http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgi
Kathryn Nielsen Healey

I'm trying to find some info on my gg-grandmother, Kathryn Nielsen Healey. Specifically, I'm looking for her obituary, where she is buried and some info on her siblings. Kathryn was born in 1875 in Mt. Eden to Niels Christian and Engelina Christina Petersen (two people I also don't know much about). Kathryn had two sisters, Lillian (b. circa 1885) and Caroline (b. circa 1879). I know Lillian married August Peterson some time before 1910. Sister Caroline is the real mystery and I am especially curious as to what happened to her. Her wedding ring has been a family heirloom for several generations (I recently inherited it from my mother who inherited it from her grandmother, Caroline's niece), yet no one knows who Caroline was married to or when she died or whatever became of her. I'm assuming Caroline didn't have children, otherwise her wedding ring probably would have went to them, but I'd still like to know what happened to her. Kathryn married Lauren Everett Healey in 1896 and they had their only child, my great-grandmother, Gladys in 1898. The family was living in San Francisco until the 1906 earthquake when they lost everything and decided to relocate to Alameda to be closer to Kathryn's parents for awhile. Kathryn died on March 12 1918 in Alameda. Lauren later remarried and had other children from that wife. I've got census records as well as Kathryn and Lauren's wedding announcement and a few other things, but nothing about Kathryn's death (beyond the date, which was a chore to find!) and would appreciate any info on that anyone might know of. I was also thinking that if I could find Kathryn or Lillian's obits I might be able to figure out who Caroline married and when she died... Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Does anyone know if there is website with a complete directory of people at Mountain View Cemetery? I've seen lists here and there online, but none of them had my ancestors listed (and I know they are buried there). I'd like to get their plot info and can't make the trip to Mt. View at this time to find out where they are which is why I'm looking online. I know the old City Cemetery in Sacramento has a wonderful online directory, I would think Mt. View (which is much more well-known and bigger) would have something available online also. Then again, I know Mt. View is huge so maybe an online directory just isn't feasible for them... Anyway, I'd appreciate any help anyone can give on the matter.

Adams Family on McKinley Street in Oakland

My family has a long history in California. I just recently found a census record that appears to be for my family in SF in 1900. In 1900 there was the father John, the mother Mary, 3 sons and 2 daughters. In 1910 however the family has relocated to McKinley Street in Oakland and John and a daughter are missing. Did John and that daughter parish in the quake and fire of 1906? The daughter would have been about 20 in 1906 so did she “marry” and disappear? The 1900 Census has them in the Jackson St., Drumm St., Davis St., and Pacific Ave. area. It appears that the street they were on no longer exists.

I also found where a John and Mary are listed as tavern keepers in SF (1889) prior to the quake and fire that seems to agree with the 1900 census data where John is listed as a hotel keeper. The tavern is listed as being at 27 Pacific Avenue and that appears to be in the area of the census where they are listed in 1900. It looks like a big apartment complex covers that area now.

Of course this data changes a lot of what I thought I knew. The 3 boys in the family were born in PA. One daughter, Margaret, I knew was born in California but because of the data accumulated after 1910 it was assumed that she was born in the Oakland area. Now that I’ve found 2 girls the assumption is shifting to think that they may have been born in San Francisco. Tracing this becomes highly difficult because of the 1906 earthquake and fire that destroyed so many records.

I’ve been able to trace the 3 boys. One of course was my grandfather and I’m named for him. He was John Nicholas Adams and I am the 3rd. I think “Nicholas” may have come from Mary Tierney’s brother. He was the youngest of the 3 boys. He died of heart failure in February of 1944. He worked as a clerk for Wells Fargo and the telegraph company. He was married to a young woman, Emily Wagner, from the Haverstraw area of New York just up the Hudson River from New York City. Wonder how they met?

Charles Francis was the oldest. He practiced and taught law, and dabbled in politics in SF and LA. He was married to Agnes Kendrick and they had a daughter Eileen. Eileen was born in 1913 and I have not been able to find out where she disappeared to. The last trace I have is her living at home in the 1930 Census.

The family story is that a disgruntled client shot Charles in his office and before dying Charles returned the favor. Charles died in February of 1941.

Richard Peter was the middle boy and died in the family home on McKinley Street in Oakland. His death was seen to by the only sister I have data on, Margaret. Richard worked in the shipyards and as a blacksmith. He died in January of 1953.

Margaret married Charles Hull and had 2 daughters, Marguerite Veronica (born 1911) and Virginia A. Hull (born 1909.) Virginia has disappeared. Margaret is listed as being with Charles in the 1910 Census but is back to the family home on McKinley Street in Oakland for the 1920 and 30 Census.

Marguerite married a Charles Wilson and had a boy and a girl. The girl, Yvonne Marie Wilson, married a boy with the surname of Rinta and I have contacted her son and one of her 2 daughters. Marguerite’s son, Donald George Wilson is believed to have married and moved to Arizona. I have not been able to find him. He would be entering his 70’s this year. Yvonne died in 1986.

Mary (Tierney) Adams died between the census years of 1920 and 1930. My best guess is in 1922.

My grandmother Emily, was not very talkative regarding the relations. My mother never knew, until I started researching that my father had any uncles, aunts, or cousins. And she never met any of the relatives when she lived in LA at the time of my birth in the late 40's, or even when they went to LA to bring my grandmother back east after her stroke in the late 1950’s. Emily always said her father in law was a scalawag. That he had to swim out to a ship passing to get away from the authorities in Ireland because he was doing something that got him in trouble.

My father ocassionally talked about his Aunt Meg and Uncle Dick but never pointed out that they were brother and sister. I always thought of them being married. It was surprising to find out that they just shared the house. It appears that Aunt Meg’s marriage to Charles Hull either didn’t last long or Charles Hull suffered an early demise as she's found at home in the 1920 and 30 Census as noted above.

So that’s it. I would like to know what happened in SF but its not easy to get information as I'm on the east coast. But I'm open to suggest as to where next to look.

I am lookiing for an obituary or any information on: Matthew J Swart b. about 1874-5 in Iowa and or his wife, Della N. born about 1885 in Nebraska. In 1920 census they were in Perry, OK and in 1930 census, Della was shown as widowed living in Oakland, Alameda, CA. On the CA Voter Registration lists (from ancestry.com), they are shown in 1926 and 1928, then in 1930 Matthew is not listed. I'm guessing he died between 1928-1930
Any information will be greatly appreciated. Connie
Masonic Cemetery in Livermore

I already had their obituaries from The Livermore Herald, but obituaries in the Livermore Echo revealed more info.

Mathias TANNER
died 18 Jul 1907 at home on Lizze St. Livermore, CA
appeared 25 Jul 1907 The Livermore Echo

Johanna TANNER
died 30 Apr 1909 at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. MELHORN on Lizzie Street.
Johanna was buried in the Masonic Cemetery beside those of her late husband.

That was the first mention of a burial place for either of them. I have been to the Masonic Cemetery aka Roselawn and searched their online records. They are not listed.

The Tanner family was from Teufen, SWT and after several moves ended up in Livermore in 1883. I am trying to concentrate my research on the time period 1883 until their deaths (1907 and 1909). I have lots of info prior to their arrival in Livermore and the 1900 census too.

I am not willing to risk sending money for his death certificate, since he did not appear in the statewide death index.

If he was a member, where would I begin looking for membership records? Would there be separate burial records? I don't know anything about the group to know where to begin. Not even the correct terminology

appeared 6 May 1907 The Livermore Echo
Elmhurst, Alameda Co - David Lindsay and family

A kind lady helped me track down, through death notices in local newspapers, a family that lived in Elmhurst, Alameda County, California in the early 1900’s. I am hoping to find out anything more readily available about them and would really appreciate any information on the following people, particularly the father, David Lindsay.

David Lindsay
Born: Jun 1836 in Canada
Died: 29 Oct 1915 in Elmhurst, Alameda Co, California, USA

Permilla “Minnie” Lindsay
Born: Nov 1846 in Ohio, USA
Died: 29 Mar 1920 Elmhurst, Alameda Co, California, USA

Newton Clyde Lindsay (went by Clyde)
Born: Jul 1871 in Ohio, USA
Died: After 1930

Rubie Lindsay
Born: about 1878 in Elko Co, Nevada, USA

“Clyde” Lindsay was living in Alameda Co as of 1930, but I don’t know what happens to him after that. I don’t know if Rubie made it to California, but I’m including her name as well.

If possible, I would like to avoid ordering a death certificate, but I really need to figure out David Lindsay’s mother’s maiden name or birth location inside Canada. ANY information, though, AT ALL would be very much appreciated as I don’t know much about this family and every little bit I do manage to learn helps me piece everything together.

Thank you all for your time.
History of Alameda, Woodstock District, Jack London

While many locals associate Woodstock with the Alameda Housing Authority’s 1941 housing project, the area has a much deeper and richer history that stretches back another 90 years.

In 1851 or early 1852 Charles Bowman received a deed from William Worthington Chipman and Gideon Aughinbaugh for land here. And the Town of Woodstock was the 1864 creation of A.A. Cohen and his partner J. D. Farwell.

By the time we’re finished we will have met 6-year-old Jack London, learned about the terra cotta, borax and oil industries and stood on the old bay shore about where A.A. Cohen’s San Francisco & Alameda Rail Road wharf once stood. We’ll also meet an early California governor and see a fine example of a Gothic Revival farmhouse.

Let’s get started.

We’ll get underway at Lincoln Avenue and Linden Street. Longfellow Education Center stands on one side of Lincoln here and Longfellow Park on the other. First the San Francisco & Alameda Railroad, and then Central Pacific Railroad trains ran on tracks down Lincoln here.

Longfellow Park was once home to the Kohlmoos Hotel. It’s hard to imagine a building the size of the Kohlmoos nestled in a park the size of Longfellow, but such a building stood here until 1934. In his book about Alameda parks, Alameda At Play, historian Woody Minor says that “the four-story structure (included) self-contained systems for water and gas.”

The parcel the hotel stood on was bigger than today’s park, as Haight Avenue did not appear on maps until 1896. Minor describes the hotel’s landscaped grounds as “covering about an acre” and “laid out with paths, fountains and a pavilion for billiards and bowling.” Longfellow School just across the street replaced West End Primary School, where 6-year-old Jack London attended classes.

Walk west on Lincoln to Marshall Way and down Marshall Way to Pacific Avenue. Marshall Way was built on the San Francisco and Alameda Railroad’s right-of-way. A. A. Cohen laid tracks across Alameda on today’s Lincoln Avenue in 1864. Lincoln was called Railroad Avenue until 1909, when it was renamed to honor Abraham Lincoln’s 100th birthday. Cohen’s SF&A station and wharf stood at the foot of Pacific Avenue, however. Cohen had to build his tracks in a northwesterly direction somewhere along the line so his trains reached Pacific Avenue and the rail yards. Cohen chose the spot where Marshall Way now runs to build the curve that accomplished this.

Cohen was by no means the first to develop this area. Sometime in late 1851 or early 1852, Charles Bowman purchased 144 acres here from Chipman and Aughinbaugh. Instead of a fence, Bowman chose to build a ditch to define his eastern property boundary. Quickly dubbed “Bowman’s Ditch,” it ran in a north-south direction from the marshlands to San Francisco Bay. The ditch crossed this area about where Marshall Way and Pacific Avenue intersect.

Chipman Middle School — named for one of Alameda’s founders —stands on the site were Nehemiah Clark built his terra cotta factory. Before Clark arrived, this piece of land belonged to Thomas Davenport. We’ll learn more about him when we reach Woodstock Park. When Davenport died his heirs, sold the portion of his property to Clark.

On his fascinating Web site about California brick-making (http://calbricks.netfirms.com), Dan Mosier tells us that Delaware native Nehemiah Clark arrived in California in 1850. In 1864, he established Pacific Pottery on the east side of Sacramento where he made various clay products. These included vitrified sewer pipe, chimney pipe and his best-seller, the “Pacific” fire brick.

Mosier says that Nehemiah opened an office and depot on Market Street in San Francisco in 1880, where he sold fire brick and other clay products. In 1883, he moved his office to California Street. When he decided to move his pottery plant from Sacramento to be closer to the bustling San Francisco market, he selected a site in Alameda for his new works. He built his new plant — an enormous four-story building with more than 600,000 of his own bricks — at 401 Pacific Ave. Merlin writes that the Clark factory contained four kilns and, at 28,500 square feet, was the largest building in Alameda. The building stood until 1963.

Woodstock Park lies behind Chipman Middle School. To get there, walk down Pacific to Third Street; go right on Third and right on Spruce Street to the gate at the end of the street. Go through the gate and into the park. Like the site where Chipman Middle School stands, this land belonged to Thomas Davenport. In fact, Third Street was called Davenport Street on some early maps. Davenport lived on the Woodstock Park site in one of the two mansions in the area. (Governor Henry H. Haight lived in the other. We’ll meet Haight and his family near the end of our walk.)

The 1880 census lists Thomas living here with his wife, Caroline, his brother Matthew and his cousin James. Minor writes that Davenport made his living as a fur trader in Missouri and a wholesaler in Mexico. He arrived in California during the Gold Rush. Davenport owned 15 acres here and “built his house on the west half of his property, leasing out the remaining land for cultivation,” Minor writes.

Farmer John London, his wife, Flora; daughters Eliza and Ida and 4-year-old son, Jack, appear as the very next household on the same page of the 1880 federal census as Thomas Davenport. According to Russ Kingman in A Pictorial Life of Jack London, Jack London was born on Jan. 12, 1876 to Flora Wellman at 615 Third St. in San Francisco. Jack’s father, astrologist William Chaney, denied paternity and left town. About nine months later on Sept. 7, Flora married partially disabled Civil War veteran John London. The following year, John removed Eliza and Ida — daughters from a previous marriage — from the Protestant Orphan Asylum on Haight Street in San Francisco.

Sometime in 1878 a diphtheria epidemic swept through San Francisco. Jack and his stepsister Eliza both suffered near-fatal attacks of the disease. Kingman says that the London family moved from San Francisco to Oakland to escape the epidemic; by 1879 John London was operating a truck garden on a parcel of land in Oakland near the present-day Emeryville border.

Then in 1880, when young John Jr. (“Johnny” to his family) was 4 years old, John Sr. and Flora moved to Alameda with the children. According to Kingman, London’s parents cultivated 20 acres of land near Thomas Davenport’s mansion. In 1882, 6-year-old Johnny started grade school at West End Primary School (on the site of today’s Longfellow Education Center). The family didn’t stay long. On Jan. 7, 1883, John took up roots and moved his family to the Tobin Ranch in San Mateo County where they raised horses and grew potatoes.

Next week we’ll continue our walk along Cypress Street through today’s Woodstock. We’ll learn more about this 1941 housing development, see where the South Pacific Coast Rail Road ran its trains and learn about Bird’s Hotel. We’ll also set foot on the 19th century shoreline and learn about the borax and oil refineries there. We’ll wrap up our hike with a walk down old West End Avenue (today’s Fourth Street) past where Gov. Henry H. Haight lived with his family and get a first-hand look at Abram and Caroline Rich’s Gothic Revival house.

This hike is from Dennis Evanosky’s new book Alameda’s Architectural Treasure Chest due out later this summer.

I don't know the name of the shop, but my mother's name was Daisy May FERGUSON. Am hoping to find old advertisements or anything related to her and the shop, other than census records, which I have. Any info will be appreciated. THANKS! - Trish

Convents in Oakland around 1920's

I am looking for information on Catholic Convents that existed in or around Oakland, California around the 1920's. This convent would have allowed children to live there while their parents were off working elsewhere. I am in search information on my husbands g-mother and her family. She was born in California, 10/1916, her name was Lorraine Slocum. She passed away in San Francisco in the 1980's. Lorraine's last name at the time of her passing was Bianchi. She had been married to a George Binachi (2nd marriage) and they lived in Daly City California. Her mother was of hispanic heritage and we believe that Lorraine's mother's last name was Garcia. Lorraine and her sisters went to live in a convent in this area due to their mothers illness. Lorraine worked as a nurses aid in a hospital in Oakland where she soon met and married (at the age of 15-16) a George Murphy (1st husband) believed to work in the Pharmacy in the same hospital. We have been told that Lorraine's mother's family were the owners of many, many buildings in and around Oakland. I know this is a lot of information but we have hit a lot of walls and if anyone can help, we would welcome your help.
Thank you and God Bless

My gg-uncle, James Riley Blair (1876-1947) lived in Oakland between 1924 and 1944. He moved to Merced county sometime in the 1940s and died there in 1947.

The 1930 census and voter registration rolls have his wife, Osa, listed. However, she is not mentioned in his obituary.

I suspect they divorced since she is not on the California death index.

Is there a divorce index for Alameda county? If I wrote the courthouse would they look it up?

Thanks!

- Heather

Death - PRATER, Alvin L. (1946-1974)

Handcuffed Slain Couple Identified

SUNOL - The young couple whose bodies were found on a lonely road here Sunday were identified today as newlyweds, Alvin and Mary Ellen Prater.

Their late model white Ford is missing and its discovery may provide a clue to the brutal killer who manacled their hands behind them before firing a single bullet to the head of each.

Prater, 29, and Mary Ellen, 20, were married in Santa Rosa, her home town, just three weeks before their death.

His mother, Mrs. Stella Prater, reached at her home in Hurricane, Utah, today said the pair might have given a ride to a hitchhiker.

"They were very helpful, they thought they should help everyone they could," she said.

Just before his marriage, Prater moved his silversmith equipment from Eureka, where he had been living, to an apartment in Santa Rosa and prepared to resume his trade there. His mother said she has no idea why the couple was in Sunol or who they might have met.

The couple owned a 1970 or '71 white Ford, which has not been found, she said.

Prater had served a hitch in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He was born in southern Utah, but raised in Sacramento.

Mary Ellen's mother, Mrs. Frances Kanihan, gave a bridal shower for the pair in Santa Rosa just 10 days ago, Mrs. Prater recalled.

Alameda County Sheriff's investigators said the young people were slain "execution style."

There were bruises on their upper arms as if they had been struck or mauled before they were killed.

Their bodies, stripped of identification, were found by a motorcyclist near the blind end of old Vallecitos Road about a mile from its interseciton with Interstate 680.

Oakland Tribune | Oakland, California | Tuesday, August 27, 1974 | Page 1
=============================
Rites Tomorrow for Slain Couple

SUNOL - Mary Ellen Prater would have been 21 tomorrow, but instead of a birthday party there will be a joint funeral service for Mary Ellen and her bridegroom, Alvin Prater.

The newlyweds were murdered on a deserted country road here sometime during the weekend. Each had been handcuffed and shot once through the head.

Alameda County sheriff's investigators have virtually no leads to the slayer or slayers of the young pair.

It was only by chance that they were identified as soon as they were. Their killer had stripped them of all identification.

But Mary Ellen's mother, Mrs. George Kanihan of Santa Rosa, explained the circumstances.

"The couple was married very quickly - they'd only known each other six weeks - and we had a party for them a week ago Sunday to welcome Alvin to the family.

"At the party I gave Mary Ellen a little gift. It was a tiny birth announcement set in plastic. It measured, oh, about 1-1/2 by 2 or 3 inches. It just said 'Mr. and Mrs. George Kanihan, Aug. 29, 1953, a girl'.

"I'd carried it in my purse over 20 years. Well, she had that shoved way deep in her pocket and that's what the police found."

Authorities estimated they had been dead up to 48 hours before being found.

Each had been shot below the right ear with a 45-caliber gun, according to Deputy Coroner John Prindeville.

Prater, 27, was a self-employed silversmith who moved to Santa Rosa from Eureka at the time of their marriage three weeks ago. His family lives in Hurricane, Utah.

Mary Ellen was born and raised in Santa Rosa.

The funeral service will be conducted at Daniels Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa and their bodies sent to Utah for burial in his family plot.

Oakland Tribune | Oakland, California | Wednesday, August 28, 1974 | Page 7
=============================
CA Death Index:
PRATER ALVIN L 1946 10 21 MALE UT ALAMEDA 1974 08 23 27
I am looking for info on my great aunt of mine who died on 5 July 1945 in Alameda, California. Her name was Venus Margaret Damron (maiden name Wooley, though she was raised by a foster family so she may have had a different last name before Damron). I do not know her husband's name, just that he was a Damron. She was born 14 Mar 1919 in Ohio. She was given up before the 1930 census, but I don't know what family she was given to. I do know from the California Death Index that she died 5 July 1945 in Alameda, and it lists the correct father's surname and mother's maiden name. The family story is that she was killed in a motorcycle accident and that her husband may have died as well. I have been unable to locate any newspaper records on ancestry regarding this.

Thank you,
Jodi Roessler
