Surnames: Hesler, Hessler
Hello! My relative John Hesler was from Norway. He moved from Rochester NY to Hornitos by 1860, as he is listed in the 1860 US census there. By 1863 he had moved to Mariposa where he was a boot and shoemaker. He has a paper trail in Mariposa. I am curious about the root of Norwegian Gulch - was it founded by Norwegians? Or was the connection something else? Were there Norwegians in the area during the Rush?
