Wonder if anyone knows if there is a list of who is buried in the little cemetery off Hwy 395 near Coleville, Mono Co., CA.

Also I understand that in order to see the little cemetery you must have permission first. I wonder from where you may get this permission.

I am actually searching for Harvey Lancaster. Son of Isaac and Mariah Lancaster of the Chester Twp., Wells Co., IN to Mason Valley, NV. and then to Prairie City, Grant County, OR.
Harvey's sister Mary Elizabeth Lancaster-Mickey-Leduc is my G-Grandmother.
We also know that when Mary and Harvey's brother Morris Lancaster accidentally shot and killed their brother John in 1878 in the Mason Valley, NV, he first ran to Antelope Valley to the brother, Harvey, who talked him in to retorning home.
It sounds like a long ways to travel, but not really. By car it is actually about 45/minutes.

Appreciate any help.

Nan Curtis
Bishop, Ca
bncurtis@Qnet.Com
Niteowl1060@Yahoo.Com

HANS CHRISTENSEN in Bodie 1876-188?

Looking for any information on Christensen family in Bodie. My great-grandfather, Hans Christensen, was there in about 1878-83. 1880 Census, Bodie, Mono, California, shows him (34), his wife Catherina Marie (last name not known) (29), son John (3, B. NV) and two daughters, Hannah (1) and Mattie (4m) (called Inga in later files on family), both B. CA. He is listed as a laborer. The 1880 Census shows both he and his wife from Denmark and the 1900 Census shows Germany (don't think 1900 is correct).

Hannah's death notice states she was born in Bodie, on December, 8, 1878. Mattie would have been born about Feb-Mar 1880.

Hans arrived in the US in 1865, took out an Intent to Naturalize in Santa Cruz County on August 12,1869, and was Naturalized in Ormsby County, Nevada, on October 3, 1874.

His wife, Catherina Marie, immigrated in 1874. They were married about 1876.

Photos I have, taken in San Francisco about 1883-1885, leave me to believe that the family moved on at this time. I know that the family was in Washington state by 1893, where the last two children, Elmer (b. 1893) and Effra (b. 1895)(known as Effie) were born.

Does this ring any bells? Any and all inqueries are appreciated.
Florence Ann Sharp

Florence Ann Sharp, 76 - "Flo" to her many friends - was
born Oct. 6, 1926, and died Nov. 13, 2002. She had battled
cancer for two and a half years.

She was a graduate of the Tulsa Central High School Class
of 1944 and married Don N. Sharp, Jr., on Dec. 20, 1946.

Florence and Don spent many years in Mammoth Lakes, where
Don worked for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. Florence founded
the Mammoth Hospital Auxiliary - then the Southern Mono
Hospital Auxiliary - on Nov. 11, 1968, and was instrumental
in founding Mammoth High School, serving on both the
hospital and school boards. Her many hours of volunteering
are deeply appreciated, and she is mourned by her many
friends and members of the hospital auxiliary.

Together with her brother, Joe, she also owned an antique
shop in Mammoth for 15 years and did secretarial work for
a group of orthopedic doctors. Upon Don's retirement in
1987, they moved to Bishop, where they lived until they
returned to Tulsa in 1997.

Florence was preceded in death by a son, Don N. Sharp, III;
her parents, Roy and Lenore Reeves; and a brother, Joseph
Roy Reeves. She is survived by her husband of 56 years,
Don, who still lives in Tulsa.

The family asks that Florence be remembered with donations
to the Mammoth Hospital Auxiliary in her name: P.O. Box
1399, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546.

Bishop, Inyo County, California
The Inyo Register - Thursday, January 16, 2003
Page A-2
-------------------------------------------
Posted by a volunteer with no family relation though I do
have some knowledge of the Bishop area.
I am interested in obtaining Mono County Land Records and assesments for period 1860 - 1864 for D.W. Mooney and Cha. T. Bourke. All I could get was a copy of deed: Mooney to Bourke in 1863, from Bridgeport Clerk. The land description is so general ("... On the East Branch of West Walker River at the junction of the said branch of Walker River and Hot Springs Stream & canon being one undivided one half interest inm 320 acres of land in said ranch. Said land claim extends from the junction of Hot Springs Stream down said East Branch of Walker River one half mile and up said East Branch of Walker river one mile and in width including both siades of said Branch of Walker River one half mile. Being one and one half mile in length by one half mile in width containing 320 acres more or less."
Can anyone pin this location down for me? My maps don't help (and are modern). I would need better definition to request BLM info. There might be records of assessments on land, under the above names, or tract book info, etc. But apparently not at Bridgeport. I don't see any LDS microfilms with this info.

My daughter is Nellie Bly (Baker) O'Bryan's great-great-great niece. Nellie was a silent film actress who starred with Charlie Chaplin prior to her decision to leave the lime-light and move to Lundy Canyon in 1939. During her retirement years, she constructed and ran the "Upside-Down House," in Mono County. I am currently writing an article and possible book on her life. If anyone has any info on either Nellie or her husband, John, please forward to casademb@msn.com or call (909)597-7328 (you can call "collect"). Thank you for your assistance with my "labor or love." --Bonnie J. Her first husband was a student of Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucy. He studied mining engineering and accompanied a group of professors on an expedition that traveled around the world from 1878-1880.

Jessie's second husband Owen had been her schoolmate in Genoa. His parents were pioneer residents of that place. Owen worked for a creamery and while making tests, he got sulphuric acid in his eyes and became totally blind. He was able to type, and wrote a number of historical articles for newspapers. Their remaining years were spent in Oakland and San Francisco.
