OLIVER A. HALLADAY has been a resident of Eaton county for more than a quarter of a century, has been identified with business, civic and official affairs in a worthy way, and is now serving his second term as sheriff of the county. Mr. Halladay claims the old Green Mountain state as the place of his nativity, having been born in Windham county, Vermont, June.14, 1854, a son of Elliott and Nancy Halladay, who.passed their entire lives in that state, where the father followed the vocation of farming. The present sheriff of Eaton county was reared on the old homestead farm and was afforded the advantages of the common schools of the locality and period. That he made good use of his opportunities is evident when reversion is made to the fact that he became eligible for pedagogic honors, teaching in the district schools for a time. At the age of twenty-two years he severed the home ties and came to Michigan, passing the first year in Ionia county, where he was employed in the general store of John Friend. He then came to Eaton county where he taught one term of district school, after which he engaged in the general merchandise business in Hoytville, as a member of the firm of Halladay & Brown. He continued to be identified with this line of business in Hoytville for the ensuing ten years, at the expiration of which he was appointed deputy sheriff of the county, having been incumbent of office of some description the greater portion of the time since, though he was employed for a number of' years as a traveling salesman and was later engaged in the farming-implement trade. In 1902 he was elected sheriff of Eaton county, and he has given a most able and satisfactory administration, having been elected as his own successor in 1904. He was a resident of Grand Ledge for some time, and there served as constable, while he has been continuously in office in the county for the past sixteen years. In politics he is a stanch advocate of the principles and policies of the Republican party, and he is affiliated with the lodge, chapter and commandery of the Masonic fraternity, as well as the adjunct organization, the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and also the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias. He is one of ten interested in the opening and operation of a gold mine in the state of Oregon. The company was incorporated in 1904, and he is secretary of the same. The company has already installed machinery for the handling of fifty tons of ore per day, and the prospect is a most flattering one. In 1878 Mr. Halladay was united in marriage to Miss Eva Halladay , who was reared and educated in Ionia county, Michigan, being a daughter of Henry Halladay . Of the four children of this union only one is living, Frank E., who is now in Oregon, identified with the operation of the gold mine in which his father is an interested principal, as already noted.

They came in 1905 to NEBRASKA ( SEWARD and LINCOLN) with the help of their uncle REVEREND F. W. HAINKE from KENSINGTON, KANSAS. Gustav Scholz already died in 1913, his WIDOW LISETTE ULM remarried an ADO GERDES and later moved with her children to ORANGE COUNTY. PAULINE, later went to Tacoma,PIERCE COUNTY,WA. and died there in 1967. She is the mother of the MYSTERY GIRL: About 1910 she sent a photo to her family in Germany, showing her with her(?) daughter ELEANOR. Nobody ever heard of this girl. WHAT HAPPENED TO HER? Officer killed in the line of duty, need obit please

Officer Jay W. Parker was a police officer with the West Covina Police Dept. In 1978 Jay was pursuing an escaped mental patient who had stolen a car. The mental patient pulled his car over and as officer Parker stepped out of his cruiser the patient shot and killed him. Jay and his family are relatives of mine. We lost track of them some years ago. Jay had two sisters and we are hoping that Jays obituary will give us their married names in the hopes of connecting with them. I am looking for descendants of this family. The parents were Elias and Ethel Miller, born in Hungary, emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. Elias Miller listed his occupation as Jewish clergy. (A rabbi?) There were seven sons and six daughters. The family was based in Detroit, but several of the children migrated to Southern CA.
I do know that at least half of the children married and had at least one child. I have had contact with the son of one family member and the granddaughter of another, but they don't seem to have contact with other relatives. These people are cousins to me on my maternal side. If anyone has knowledge that you are a member of this family or have had close contact with someone who was, I would like to hear from you. Thanks, Pat

I am trying to secure any information relating to Patterson Bowers and/Martin V. Bowers. It is believed that the two are brothers and are the children of Jacob Bowers and Barbara Hawbert who came from Virginia to California via Texas. Patterson, born about 1825 in Virginia married Maria Letitia Crockett in Tazewell County, Virginia in 03 June 1851. They were the parents of seven children. Maria died in Orange County, CA in 1890; Patterson died in Orange County, CA in 1898. The two are buried in the Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana. I would love to have a copy of an obituary for either.

Martin V. Bowers, born about 1829 in Virginia, married Melissa Kennedy 01 March 1859 in Young County, Texas. They had a son, William, born about 1862 in Texas. By 1880, Martin, Melissa and William were living in Orange TWP, Los Angeles County, CA. I have no other information about Martin, Melissa and/or William Bowers and hope that someone can provide more information about this couple and their child.

Any help anyone can give to help further identify these Bowers men would be appreciated.

Both were born in Ohio and Helen resided in Ohio at least until 1936 when she married her second husband, ?? Mileski. I'd like to think Marion was her husband, but need more information. Helen is listed as having one child but were there more? The obits hopefully will shed some light.

I found a reference to Lucille Nowland Semnacher marrying a Clarence Gunning in 1959 at St. Peter's in Santa Anna. There was a note on her baptismal record in Tennessee with a hand written note by a priest stating such. Was hoping that someone might be able to find out when and where she died and anything about Clarence Gunning. Lucille was born 14 Mar 1884 in Tennessee. She was married to Al Semnacher but they divorced about 1921/22. I believe that at the time of her father's, Edward W. B. Nowland, death in 1927,she was married to a M.N. McDowell and living in New York. (This is according to his obituary). Appreciate any information that anyone might have.

On 6 Dec 1975, or there abouts, my cousing Sherre Miller (nee Roewert) was found dead on a beach in Orange County. I'm told that her young son was found dead in a boat, and her husband, Stephen Miller was never found. I'm looking for an obituary, and hopefully a news paper article about this tragedy. Sadly I didn't hear about this until last fall. I had not seen my cousin Sherre since the mid 60s. If anyone who frequents a library where an obit and/or a news paper article might be found, I'd be really grateful for a look-up.

I have found a relative's obituary that states that he died at "Sycamore Camp" on Santa Ana Canyon road near Corona, CA in 1946. His death certificates gives the county of death as Orange rather than Riverside. I would like to hear from anyone who knows where Sycamore Camp was or anything else about it.

Hello. I am wondering if any one would help me find an obit if there are is to be found. My husbands father walked out on his mother and 6 children in the late 50's never to be seen or heard of again. My husband does not remember much of his childhood or family... We have been trying for the last 15 years triying to find any of his Stokes line to no avail. Then the other night while going and running names we found two names that fit his family to a tea... Eli Stokes was my husbands uncle or at least it was one of the names he could remember as a child of age 8 and he died in Anaheim Feb. 19, 1997 and his record what we could read of it listed his mother as Mary Tennis Stokes who died Dec. 15 or 21 , 1988 in Van Nuys, or Los Angeles depending on what record you read... Searching for death record for Adin William(s) last in census in 1880 in Santa Ana CA (then LA County) living in household of son Adin, age 26, farmer and son Alexis, age 30.

The senior Adin was born in 1810 in NY to Simeon Williams and Tirzah Knight (?) and raised in Indiana. In the 1860 census he was a 51 year old widower living in Iowa, Cedar County, Iowa Twp, with daughters Amanda and Mary and son Dyer.

I have requested death certificates with the 1880-1890 range from both Orange and LA counties with no results (but LA county was insistent that Santa Ana is in Orange County, even though I explained that in 1880 it was in LA county.

my uncle, Richard H Mahon, was born in NY on 3/5/1892. He died 7/27/1963 in Orange, CA. I was overseas at the time of his death and since I've begun my family tree can find no obituary for him that was kept by any of the other family members.

His wife, at the time of his death, was Mary. He'd been previously married to a woman by the name of Florence and had a daughter but I've been unable to find information about the first family as well.

I am searching for the family of Francis M. McFADDEN who died in LA, but resided in Westminster, Orange Co., California in 1967. In the 1930 census, he was living in Long Beach, L. A. Co., CA with wife Marian B. and stepson Raymond Brown.

Francis was born in Pennsylvania 23 Dec. 1895, then lived in Lorain Co., Ohio until sometime between the 1920 and 1930 census. He was born Francis Marion McALLISTER, son of Francis R. and Anna Jane (TURNER) McALLISTER, but took the surname McFADDEN in CA. His brother Edward Hill McALLISTER also lived in California, and was a Navy veteran.

I have searched for an obituary for him, with no luck so far. I would like to find any children that he might have had, his wife's maiden name, and where he was buried.

Frances Romero, born in CA.
12/28/1909 she married Charles Granville Meserve by a Justice of the Peace. Her place of residence was listed as Huntington Beach, his Santa Ana. Her age was listed as 16 years old, which would have made her birth year 1893.
She next pops up in the 1920 US Census, Orange County. The census states her father was born in CA, and her mother was born in Spain. Says she was 24 at that time which makes her birth year 1896.
So she was born between 1893-1896.

She had five children with Charles:
Muriel, Melba, Barbara Frances, Charles, Stanley.
On Barbaras birth certificate it lists her mother as Mexican, although she and her father were born in CA, and her mother was born in Spain.

Her and Charles divorced between 1920-1930. Charles remarried a Dorothy, and they are in the 1930 census. (My grandmother Barbara confirmed Dorothy was her step mother, but unfortunately can remember nothing else – shes well in to her 90’s now!)

I believe that Frances passed away in the 70’s. I remember meeting her when I was REALLY young, and have a pic of her.

She always seemed to live in Orange County.

Jacob is the son of Doran W & Mary M Richardson, who lived in Oskaloosa, IA in the 1910's, where my GG Grandfather LaFayette Richardson died while living with Doran. Doran lived next door to Jacob in 1920 census in Cooper, Kiowa County, OK. Doran must have died between 1920 - 1930. Funeral services will be held at Fairhaven Mausoleum at 2pm Tuesday for Victor Leroy Finster, 73, 1060 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, who died Mar 12, in St Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr Finster lived 72 years in Orange County, where he was a cement contractor. With his father he laid cement work on the County Courthouse which is still standing in later life he was associated with Standard oil and the Irvine Co.

Surviving are a son, Victor Leroy Finster of Burbank; a brother, F E Finster of Balboa; two sisters; Mrs Edna DeWolfe of Costa Mesa and Mrs Lena Shevlin of Irwin, Calif; two grandchildren; Victor Leroy Finster III and Grant Henry Finster, both of Burbank.

I am grasping at straws on my search for Claude R. Sprowls. (middle name could possibly be Richard). Claude was born 1901 in Washington Co.,PA, son of John A. Sprowls and Ida (Carroll) Sprowls. (after Johns death in 1914 Ida married Howard Evans, in Arvada, Colorado.
In 1947 Claude R. Sprowls was in Reno Nevada and arrested and returned to Fullerton, California for fraud. check charges. I believe this Claude could be son of John and Ida. At time of mothers death in 1940's Claude was supposedly still in California, as there had been correspondence up to this point. I have found a SSDI record for a Claude Sprowls who died in NJ in 1977, but unsure of that Claude, as there was another family in that area.
Anyone willing to search thru some court house records for the surname SPROWLS (often misspelled as Sprowles, Sprowels, Sprouls and Sprawls). I am willing to cover your expenses or even an hourly fee. I just need to prove/disprove and try to cover all bases.
I do not know if he ever married or had children. Any info will be helpful. Marriage/divorce/death/intestate filing/ childrens births/burials - anything. Thank you so much.

I just found an obit for a relative but it doesn't state where buried. I am hoping there is SKS who could call the mortuary and find the name of cemetery for me. I live out of state on the East coast. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is the obit. I left names of living survivors off. She was the widow of Paul H. ROBERTS. She died 4 July 1991:
