W. RUSSELL PROCTOR, 62, 1315 San Carlos avenue, San Carlos died Monday at Palo Alto Veterans' hospital after a long illness.

A native of Parkeville, Mo., he had lived in San Carlos for eight years.

He was a retired barber, a veteran of World War II, a member of Disabled American Veterans, Edmund Parrott chapter of San Carlos, the American Legion of San Carlos, and a life member of the EL Camino Harmony Organ club, San Carlos.

Survivors include his wife, Bess W. Proctor; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Brandt of San Carlos; a brother, John J. Proctor Jr. of Nevada, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Lee Eager of Richards, Mo.; his father, John J. Proctor Sr. of Richards, Mo., and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:45 p.m. from Roller and Hapgood chapel. Interment will be in Golden Gate National cemetery.

I am searching for information about my great grandfather Harry Schiedeck, he was of Austrian decent however he was born in San Francisco, California on March 2, 1924. Harry died on August 26, 1970 in San Mateo Santa Clara California (Social Security Index). Harry's parents names were Frank and Katherine (maiden name unknown) Schiedeck. They had three children; Frank, Harry and Susan. Frank and Harry both served in WWII, as well as their father Frank. Frank Schiedeck (Harry's father) was born in San Francisco as well however his parents were born in Austria. Frank worked as a cop in SanFrancisco. Any other information you may have about this family would be greatly appreciated

I have been researching my family and have come across some conflicting information on my great-uncle, Vern Redemer.
Ancestry.com has him being born on January 19, 1913 and the California Death Index (1940-1997) has him as being born on February 19, 1913 in Oklahoma. Both sites have the same social security number for him.
Vern died in Burlingame, San Mateo Co., CA, and was married to Georgia Neyhart. If anyone can find an obituary for him I would be VERY grateful and it would help me establish exactly when he was born. I am willing to pay for copying and postage costs----thank you very much!

'Mimi' [surname not known] about 1917 in San Mateo, CA; naturalised 1920; living in San Carlos by 1923; birth of his son Richard, 17 Jul 1923; in the 1930 Census he was living at 9 Walnut St; died 30 Nov 1932 (?), in San Mateo; perhaps buried on 2 Dec 1932.

His son Richard 'Dick' Philip d. 16 Apr 1990; there were two other sons, John and Philip.

I don't know exactly where he died yet (I have been unable to find him in the SSDI and other sources that would show me where exactly he died). Golden Gate National Cemetery

Is anyone able to take a photograph of a headstone in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, please? The name is Edward Wilcox, Section Y, Row O, Site 3394.

He was actually born Edwin Willcock, in Sydney, Australia, 1890, and went to the US when aged 20, and changed his name to Edward Wilcox. He gained US Citizenship, and was drafted into the US 8th Field Artillery during WWI. He never returned to Australia, and relatives always wondered what happened to him. I have since found his military details, 1920 and 1930 Cenuses, and more recently his death in 1962. If I could have a photo of his headstone, it would mean some closure for his surviving nieces and nephews.

Please, I need help, I am looking for directions on where to start looking for William and Elizabeth Murray who moved to Calif. in Nov. of 1942. They would have had 3 small children All I have come up with is that they came to Calif. in Nov of 1942 from NY city and moved to San Mateo around Nov. of 43. I do know that while they lived in San Mateo there address was 877 Victory ave, Lindenville, So. San Francisco. While at that address, William worked at the Bel-Air shipyards as a carpenter. Retired LVN Edna Elizabeth Celotti, 78, of San Mateo, died Tuesday in Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Redwood City, after an illness.

Mrs. Celotti was born in San Francisco and had lived all her adult life on the Peninsula. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in San Mateo and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Survivors include her husband Joseph; a son, Robert of Leucadia; and four sisters, Grace Fickett of El Cajon, Lorrain McCoy of El Granada, Jean Bartlett of San Mateo and Merle Ruzic of Vacaville.

A rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sneider & Sullivan Chapel. Funeral services will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at St. Gregory's. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.

REDWOOD CITY, Nov. 9 - Peter Morasutti, 63, Redwood City resident and employe of the S. H. Frank tannery here for 30 years, died of a heart attack while at work late yesterday.
Morasutti, who lived at 327 Bradford street, was employed at the tannery as a mill operator. A native of Italy, he came to California in 1920.
He is survived by a son, Henry Moras of Burlingame; three daughters, Amalia Morasutti of Redwood City, Mrs. Mary Micheletti of San Francisco, and Mrs. Ada Zolezzi of Sleepy Hollow, Marin county.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 9 a. m. from the Layng and Tinney mortuary here. A requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 from Mt. Carmel church here. Internment will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Menlo Park.

I've discovered that my great-grandfather's cousin, Dewoody Reed Jones was born in Sep, 23, 1860 in San Mateo according to the LDS family history site. I would like to know if that is correct and who his father was - his mother was Elenor Jones. He seems to have lost his father early in life as his mother married Hugh Stevenson Jones around the mid 1860s. Then they divorced and she moved her children with her to Utah by 1880.

Currently I live in Maryland, so I would really appreciate any help with looking up info in San Mateo.

A Hawaiian luau at the San Mateo home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jacona was the occasion for the Jacona's son, James, and Nadine Garbo to reveal their engagement to family members and close friends.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Garbo of San Mateo. She attended San Mateo High school and college and works in Burlingame.
Jim also attended San Mateo High school and college and is now in the air force, based at Biloxi, Miss.
St. Gregory's church has been reserved by the couple for a 2 p.m. wedding September 15. A reception will follow at McDowells restaurant.
Mrs. Jerald Jacona will be the matron of honor, and Ruth Perry and Corrine McDonald will be bridesmaids. Jerald Jacona will strand as his brother's best man. Ushering duties will be shared by Gary Garbo, brother of the bride, and Edward Hamilton. James also has a brother, Michael Jacona.

Funeral services for Lt. Anna van Tienen Jansse, staff nurse at Dibble General Hospital, were held in San Francisco this morning with 30 nurses from the hospital attending as an honor guard.

Lieutenant Jansse had been stationed at Dibble since she entered the service three months ago. She was 41 years of age. Her death last Saturday night was attributed to natural causes.

She was a graduate of the Stanford University School of Nursing.

She leaves her mother, a sister and two brothers.

Hello! I need to find someone who can do a birth lookup for me. My great grandfather was John Daniel O'Brien, bn. December 30, 1897 in San Mateo County. His mother's first name was Mary, bn. California in 1875. We don't know her last name for sure, it could have been Burk(e) or it could have been Gysenberg (as is listed on his death certificate, however, I cannot find anyone with this name on census records during this time, and there are many possible spellings.)

His father was also John Daniel O'Brien. bn. CA in 1874

I just want to get her last name and any other information like city of birth for both her and her husband from the certificate. A transcription would be great. I realize CA has really cracked down on lookups. But please let me know if someone can help.

A native of San Francisco, he had lived in this county 17 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 85, and of the Butchers Union, No. 506 of San Jose, and of the South San Francisco Native Sons, Parlor 157.
Survivors include his widow, Jennie; two sons, Daniel of Vacaville and John of Millbrae; a daughter, Anne of Burlingame; a sister, Eleanor Bianchi of San Francisco.
A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
Spiritual bouquets and contributions to a favorite charity are preferred by the family.
Arrangements were by the Chapel of the Highlands, Millbrae.

CASTLEBERRY, Donald M., Ph.D. - Passed away at his home in San Mateo on February 16, 2003. Born December 2, 1914, in Hollis, OK, Don received his B.A. from Central State College in Edmund, OK, his M.A. from the University of Oklahoma and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota in 1947, where he taught at U High and General College. During World War II, he first served as Assistant Director of Civilian Relief Operations for the American Red Cross in Russia and then as Director of CRO in Poland. After teaching at the University of Texas in Austin, in 1948 Don moved his family to California and began his rewarding career at San Francisco State University. During his 31-year tenure, he taught political science and held various administrative positions, culminating as Dean of the Graduate Division until his retirement in 1979. While associated with the University, Don and his family spent two years overseas: in 1959, as a Fullbright Scholar he taught at the American University, in Beirut, Lebanon, and in 1965, he served as Faculty Advisor for the California State College overseas campus at Uppsala, Sweden. He is survived by Arline, his wife for 61 years, children, Karen Seminoff and Gerry Castleberry and their respective spouses David and Nirul, and grandchildren, Samantha, Christopher, Timothy and William; and his sister, Beth Robertson of Dallas, Texas. Memorial Service to be held on Monday, February 24, 2003 2:00 PM at CROSBY N. GRAY & CO., 2 Park Rd., Burlingame. Memorial gifts may be made to Doctors Without Borders USA or to charities of choice.

Gary Campbell, a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service in Richmond for five years, died Thursday in Daly City. He was 43.

The San Francisco native lived there before moving to Pacheco 17 years ago. He served in the Marine Corps from 1971 to 73.

He is survived by his son, Cory; sisters, Carole Smith of Concord and Barbara Grace of Fairfield; brothers, Clarence Campbell of Santa Rosa, Clifford Funseth Jr. of Pacheco, and Kenneth Funseth of Antioch; and mother, Pearl Funseth of Pacheco.

BOGDANOFF, Jon Peter - 61, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005. Jon grew up on Potrero Hill in San Francisco and graduated from Mission High School in 1961. He was the third child born to June and Peter Bogdanoff (deceased). He and his wife, Anita, moved to San Mateo in 1976 and raised two children, Natasha (Shelton) and Nick. Jon walked Natasha down the aisle in 2003 and proudly welcomed Mark Shelton into his immediate family. Jon served two years in the U.S. Army and was a member of the ILWU, Local 10, for over 35 years, retiring in 2003. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Friday, March 11, at 11:30 am at the First Baptist Church of San Mateo, 2801 Alameda de las Pulgas, San Mateo. My great aunt apparently was buried at the expense of San Mateo County sometime after 1930. She ended up living at the "County Relief Home" in the 1930 census and died sometime after that. Any knowledge or suggestion on how to find out what the county did in situations like this would be greatly appreciated.

AUGUSTUS H. VAN AKEN

Augustus H. “Gus” Van Aken, 63, of San Mateo, died Friday of a heart attack in Chope Community Hospital.

He was a native of Kingston, N.Y., and had lived in San Mateo County for 29 years.

VanAken was a retired member of the Butchers Union, Local 115; a past master of the Hillsborough Masonic Lodge; was a member of the Peninsula Masonic Lodge, a veteran of World War II and a survivor of Pearl Harbor.

Van Aken is survived by his wife, Eileen; a daughter, Alanah Hoffman of San Mateo; nine brothers, all in New York; and a grandson.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Masonic Lodge Hall, 621 Masonic Way in Belmont.

JOSEPH BAISA

Joseph Jimenez Baisa, 85, the man whose front yard Christmas displays once attracted hundreds of visitors in Burlingame, died Wednesday in Peninsula Hospital.

Born in Spain, he was a self-employed silversmith for more than 50 years.

He had lived in Burlingame 40 years. From 1947 through 1965, he created elaborate displays on his front lawn.

Manager scenes, reindeer, all the emblems of Christmas marched across his lawn. Baisa even stocked candy canes to be distributed to passing children by a friend wearing a Santa Claus costume.

In 1965, drunken vandals smashed the one-man exhibit. Cardboard cherubs and saints were knocked over with beer bottles; the manger scene was wrecked.

Baisa and his wife cleaned up the mess, gave out candy canes to passing children, and then abandoned the annual effort.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; three daughters, Barbara Kramer of Truckee, Joyce Petrovich of Newark, and Arlene Holcomb of Fremont; three sons, Emilio of Millbrae, Fernando of San Mateo, and Tony of San Bruno; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services begin with a eulogy at 7:30 p.m. today in the Colonial Mortuary of Crosby-N. Gray & Co., Burlingame. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

Entombment will be in Skylawn Memorial Park near Half Moon Bay. The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.

Golden Wedding Date Celebrated

Fifty years of marriage were marked by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Baisa of Burlingame at a party in San Francisco.

Setting for the celebration was Fior d’Italia Restaurance in North Beach where the couple’s wedding reception was staged 50 years ago. The party was cohosted by the Baisa’s children and their spouses who include, Barbara and Dick Cramer of San Carlos, Joyce and Bernie Petrovich of Newark and Arlene and Richard Holcomb of Fremont.

Among the 53 guests were Mrs. Baisa’s sister, Isabelle Lucchesi of Santa Rose, who served as her maid of honor, and Manuel Baeza, her brother, who performed ring bearer duties at the wedding which took place of June 5, 1927 at Stes. Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco.

The former Mary Baeza and Joseph Baisa are both natives of Malaga, Spain. Their families were brought to Hilo, Hawaii at the turn of the century by Adolph Spreckles to work in his sugar cane fields on the islands. The couple subsequently moved to the Bay Area where they have lived since their marriage. For the past 30 years they have been residents of Burlingame. He is 75 years old and she is 71 years old.

Baisa, who is semi-retired, is self employed. For 43 years he worked as a silversmith at Superior Plating Works in San Francisco. His affiliations include the Independent Order of the Foresters in San Mateo.

The Baisa family includes nine grandchildren. They are Michael, Rich and Ann Cramer; Kathy, Janis, Teri and Joe Petrovich and David and Mark Holcomb.

BAISA, Anthony Baisa - aka Tony "Fubsy" Baisa at age 85, passed away on Nov. 4, 2003. He was born in Hilo, HI to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Ida Baisa. His family moved to San Francisco when he was a child. Tony became the lifelong friend of the late Hugo Pini and his surviving spouse, Florene, and a godfather and friend to their two sons, Tony and Rick Pini. He will also be missed by his sister, Mary Zubillaga and many nieces and nephews. Tony was a graduate of Balboa High School. He competed as a Golden Glove boxer and played semi-pro baseball and eventually went on to work as a bartender in San Francisco for 44 years. In the 1980's he learned to tap dance and was an original member of South City's "Senior Strutters", who performed for nearly 20 years at events around the Bay Area. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his sense of humor, great patience and generous nature.
At his behest, there will be no memorial service.
