Hi Debbie:

Thank you for your reply. After 10 years of researching Ruhamah Farnham Corbin, I still have not been able to confirm her parents. I suspect they are Asa Farnham (a farmer from Ashford and Betsey Farnham). Yet, her death certificate only lists her father as a Native, farmer in Ashford and her mother is listed as "unknown".

A Directory of Native and African Americans in Windham County, CT. and Vicinity, 1650 - 1900 by Marcella Houle Pasay includes:

pg. # 167 - Farnham Ruhanna/Ruth: born. ca. 1827. - I obtained her death record, talked to the funeral home in Auburn, Maine that provided the funeral service at her son Edwin's home, and that is how I found her burial plot in Deerfield, NH. I have shared my research with many since 2000 when I began my search (to find the answer for my ailing grandmother); who continue to search for Ruhamah. I have seen differing birth dates, spellings of Farnham. In the end, I trust her signature and the info. she provided in legal documents: Ruhamah Farnham Corbin, born March 13, 1827 in Taunton, Mass.

pg.# 166 - Farnham, Betsey (Pottage): Wife of Asa: Ellington Vitals. Yet, when I have written Ellington, they say that they have no records for Asa & Betsey Farnham. I checked (with their suggestion) for Somers, CT., as well. They have no record of Asa & Betsey Farnham.

I suspected that William Farnham who is also listed on pg. # 168 (born ca. 1820) is a relative: both having resided in Ashford, CT. at same time. As well I found a link to William and Hezekiah & Ruhamah Corbin in a legal document.

Would you share your reference to William Farnham b. 1820 in Hampton? Were you able to identify who William's mother or stepmother are? Hampton also responded that they did not have a William Farnham b. 1820 or parents Asa & Bestey Farnahm marriage record.

I wish my grandmother were still here to share your reply with her. She was born in 1914. Her grandmother Ruhamah Farnham Corbin passed in 1917. From that point forward, much of our ancestry history was lost.

I very much would like to connect with descendants of William Farnham.

Thanks Debbie for motivating me not to give up on the genealogy research.

Thank you,
Becky

You can email off line as well: BigFishRus@aol.com
I am trying to locate Fred Smith. He was born about 1925 in Brooklyn, NY. I have reason to believe that he is still alive.
His father was James Neil Smith and mother Josephine. He also had a brother named James Neil. From an obituary, I know he was living in Amston, CT in 1968.
I realize this is a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained .
Thank you for any help at all.

Hi there,

There are two cemeteries in Columbia, both are within a half mile from each other. I'm not sure which is "Old Cemetery", but I suspect it's the one located to the left of St. Columba Church, at the intersection of Rte. 87 and Rte. 66. The other cemetery is across from the town library on Rte. 87.

Karen, thanks for the reply, info, and contact! I remember you in Somers when we were children, but I'd lost contact with Harvey and that side of the family (I often stayed with Charles and Pearl, when visiting Somers with Ruth and her daughter Joan). My father Raymond L. Worthington, died October 2009, (age 93) after a fall; his siblings Ruth, Elmer and Myrna had predeceased him. I would love to have your email address, mine is sandy.fleischmann@gmail.com

Sandy, Karen, I went back into my notes from many years ago and found a hand written, family group sheet for James Worthington, 1811-1891 and wife Polly Convers. The source of information was "Commemorative Biographical Record of Tolland & Windham Cnty.,1903". This listed 12 Chidlren for James and Polly Worthington.. On this work sheet I have James, perhaps a son of Sylvester Worthington, 1783-1867.
Sylvester is in the line of descendants of Nicholas Worthington of Early Saybrook, CT. Please contact me for more info. Bobworth@comcast.net. Bob Worthington, Natick,
MA

Sandy,

Your post is a few years old, but it was certainly of interest to me. I am Charles Orrin Worthington's granddaughter. My father, his son, Harvey, is 83 and living in Southern Pines, NC. Charles daughter, Ann Flack, is 74 and living in Clarkston MI. Interesting that you said Charles' siblings died of TB. My father had always said it was the flue. With the Worthington name I only go back to Polly and James also, probably because I also got all my information from Ruth! I do go back farther on Ann Cummings side with her parents being William Cummings (1815-1873) and Elizabeth Ann Trask Skinner (1814-1885) They were married in 1849. It was a second marriage for Eliza. Willard's parents, Zenus and Fannie Dean. Zenus's parents Isaac Cummmings and Lydia Washburn. Fannie's parents Silas Dean and Azubah Washburn. Azubah and Lydia were sisters and daughters of William Washburn. From there it traces back to Francis Cooke and James Chilton both of whom arrived on the Mayflower.

Karen Worthington Michalik

Hi, Rose -- Are you still researching the Willis family in CT? I am supposedly a descendant of one of the branches in MA. I'm looking for a person or website who is interested in doing this Willis research. Fenny Compton is the group I am following in America. William and Joseph were in Morris Co., NJ at the time of the Revolution, said to have come from Berkshire (Co.?), MA, but their father was said to have come to NJ from CT and married there to Bathsheba Bromley. I don't know if all this is rumor or based on fact, but this is the line I'm trying to research. Hope to hear from you and/or others interested in research.

In the survivors it doesn't mention where they lived. Kenneth did have a sister Esther McLean b. 1 July 1929 and d. July 1993 in Stafford Springs,Tolland,Ct. (Would like an obituary of her if possible). There was also another sister Margaret that I believe married a MCLEAN (not sure of her last address either) Lastly, in their mothers obit of 15 July 1954 it mentions a daughter, Mrs. Forrest Belcher that was living in Stafford Springs, Ct. at that time.
Childrens names were: Alice B., Robert H., Madeline M., Cecil J., Nettie, Kenneth E., Vera, Fred, Margaret and Esther.(All WHEELER)
If anyone can help with any information on the above mentioned family, it would be greatly appreciated. Especially obituaries.

Thanking in advance,
Susan Audy
White River Jct., Vt.
I'm looking for information on "Margaret of Scotland"--Margaret (Stuart) Thompson who was thought to be of the Royal Stuart Family of Scotland.

Info re her husband, William Thompson, would also be very helpful. The family story is that William was a blacksmith & Margaret was disinherited when she married William.

William Thompson and his wife "Margaret of Scotland" lived in Ireland, William died in Ireland, & then "widow Margaret" and children came to America.

Margaret died 20 Jan 1752, age 87, & is buried in Ellington CT with a gravestone.

Any ideas or info that you have would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much!
~Katherine

The Conn. born Jasper is not your Jasper.
Jasper N. Bolton of Wise, TX had a brother who fought for the Union by name of James Allen Bolton. Jasper is identified as his brother in James' pension record. It is likely that another person listed as next of kin for James was also a brother of the two, named William A. Bolton of Newcastle NE.
Jasper was b. IL, but his older siblings were b. Indiana, as was his father apparently. I am not certain, but it is possible that James A. Bolton of Fayette Co IN in 1840 is the father, but this is speculative. I am in possession of James Allen Bolton's Civil War Pension record and can answer further questions. Do you know who Joseph M. Bolton was in 1910, receiving James' property at death in TN?
Look up 1860 Dallas TX census for Matilda Bobier. You will see her with the Bolton brothers (who are misindexed under Balton on Ancestry.com). I'm not certain who the 45 year old R. W. is, do you?
Rufus Brown or Eunice Brown of Coventry, CT, 1850

I have recently extended my great-grandmother's family back to her grandfather, Rufus Fayette Brown, born c. 1824 in Connecticut. The earliest source I have for Rufus is his entry at age 26 in the 1850 US census for Coventry, CT.

In that census he is living with his wife Nancy A., their newborn daughter Francis L., and what is probably his grandmother, Eunice Brown, age 84.

I also note that the 1830 and 1840 US census for Coventry also list a Rufus Brown. He is too young be the Rufus Brown of the 1850 census, but could be his father's entry. A male child of an age to match that of Rufus Fayette is listed in each of those census entries.

The head of household for the 1830 and 1840 census entries immediately priot to those of Rufus is one Daniel Brown, whose age would be appropriate for that of Rufus's father. Daniel Brown is living with one other, a female whose age is consistent with that of the Eunice Brown in the 1850 census.

If anyone has any additional information regarding this family, or if you can suggest sources that might provide information, please contact me about them.

Sincerely,
Stephen Hansen

Hi Ms. Crosthwaite,

It has been a long time since I've researched my CT families, but I'm back at it again. I was wondering if you ever found out anything regarding Samuel B. & Hannah (Thompson) WEST?

I did find, but not validated, that Hannah E.
Harriet Heath b. 1813

I am looking for a record of my ggg-grandmother Harriet Heath who was born in CT in ~1813. Her family moved to Claridon, Geauga, Ohio sometime before 1831 when she married there. The marriage record only gives the bride's twp, and the only Heath household there in 1830 seems to be Simeon Heath's. I think this is the Simeon Heath son of Isaac Heath and Joanna Edson from Tolland, but can't confirm it.
Looking for information on George HAWKINS born 1749 who married Hannah KINGSLEY born abt 1751. They had seven children. 3 boys and 4 girls. My interest is in the boys George 1775, Jesse 1778, Nathan 1788. I think that one of them May have had a son which they named George. This George was born 1802 in Oneida, NY and died 1883 in Panama, NY. Anyone in Tolland, CT have any info on this family.

Looked in: Connecticut Divorces, Superior Court Records for the Counties of New London, Tolland, & Windham, 1719 - 1910.

Nothing listed for the people you named. Maybe they divorced after 1910?
