Dear Ellen
There is a error in your sketch. Daniel
Lane married the widow Catherine
Doxey shortly after
Thomas
Doxey passed. They lived in New
London for about ten years and then relocated to Setauket
on Long Island's north shore, not Southold. Daniel was a founding father and played a large role
in the development of the area. He was elected to attended the
Hempstead Conference. They had
children; Daniel Jr., Michael,
Judah, and possibly Mary,
Doxey and/or Catherine. Daniel got in
trouble with
Judah, was locked up, broke out of jail, and died on the lamb. There was no devorce in the mid-1600s. Catherine then
married (3) Thomas
Moore of Southold and removed to Southold. I am tracking the links through his sons and think I have
two more generations for sure. I'm also working in the other direction and have identified my
oldest great-grandfather James
Lane, b. abt 1760. I'm missing one generation to tie them
together, or possibly James was a descendant of James
Lane of North
Yarmouth,
Maine. I have
found references that indicate that settlers from that area who had dealings with James
Lane in
Maine relocated to Brookhaven, Long Island in the mid 1700s. Maybe
Lanes came along also!
The pastor of the church in Setauket stated in one of his letters that my neighbor
Lanes are fine and their son
Doxey has has gone to
Boston. I'm trying to figure out if that was Thomas
Doxey Jr. living with the
Lanes or did they have a son
Doxey Lane.
email me if you care to discuss this further.
