Been away for a while. You say BF was James Scott Son. What was James middle name or initial? I found BF's grave. If we are on the same people I've got some info. I could never make the connection to BF. Silas my GG Grandfather married louisa Cook. Joseph Scott and Millie Bush was his parents. Silas returned from Civil war and married Louisa in 1864 was on leave location Chenuba, basic location of store. I have a picture of he and her after war in front of house. Have tried to locate no luck.

stephendscott@bellsouth.net

I'm thin on the Webster county Cooks in my tree. Are your Cooks related to mine?

I can trace back to Henry McKeen Cook, b. 1787. Son Henry Anderson Cook was a Confederate soldier. We trace through HA's son Jim Mac (James McKeen).

Jeannie

Wow... I know I'm replying 12 years after this thread started, but I'm give it a shot in case anyone checks back. I'm the great-great grandson of B.F. Scott. B.F. Scott's father was James Scott. B.F and his son Luther ran the old Scott Store.

Sorry to say none of the names in this post show up in my tree.

Michael

Ja net,
After looking at the book I realize that I told you wrong. We come down from Nathan's and Anna's son James, who married Sarah Jane Little, which in turn had a son Cullen Foster Davis born April 29, 1859 and married Nancy Elizabeth Dilley Standifer, who had my grandfather Eugene Beatty Davis. I am studing the book my mom who is 82 had gone through it and mixed things up a little so it might take me a few days to staighten it up. Could you send me some info on your Cullen and Mary Jane Moore for my records please. I will send you info on James and Sarah if you want it.

Carol

I can't believe this, I am also descended through Cullen Davis. The family book is at my mothers, I will be going back to stay the whole week end with her and refresh my memory on this whole line, and get back with you. Do you have info on all of Nathan's and Anna's children? We have some but there is some blanks yet to be filled in. My mom doesn't have computer service so I will have to get back to you on Monday morning.
Which child of Cullen's do you descend from? We descend from his son James. My mom is going to be so excited, and now my interest has been peaked also.

I think I will start doing more research on this family.

Thanks,
Carol

I am descended from Nathan H Davis born 1785 in North Carolina. He was married to Anna Sasser who was from Anson County. Anson County was formed from another county and that may be where the difficulty lies. I do not know who his father was, but I too have come to the conclusion they were in Anson County, North Carolina. One of Nathan's children was Cullen Davis and I am through that line. You say you had someone do research in Anson County and they turned up nothing? I have plans to go there myself later in the year, not sure when. Please stay in touch and if I find something will let you know, Once I sit down and compare birthdates with the dates the counties were formed I may have some success then, Thank you for your reply.

Janet Davis

Plus my computer went down for a couple of days , I answered you by my phone but that is really hhard for me to do. I now have my computer up and running.
Which one of Nathan's children do you descend from? I have not really found anything further. I paid a man to do research in Anson Co., but nothing came from it. I hope you have better luck.
I have not done any genealogy in a long time but still very interested in it. When my mom got sick, I was thinking about looking in South Carolina, because it seemed to me that on one census it said that James and Ann'a first child was born in S.C.. I would like to work with you on this line. My mom is 82 and she comes from this line and would love to know anything as I would.
Hello,
I too am a descendant of Nathan Davis. I believe from the info I have that he met and married Anna Sasser in Anson County North Carolina. There are about 5 Davis entries in the 1800 census in Anson county. Not really sure which might be the father of Nathan. I see your post was in 2008. Have you found out anything more? I will go to Anson county some time later on this year and hopefully I will find something out.

Janet Davis

In "History of Stewart Co, Vol II", there is an entry for the Jasper B. Stephens bible, formerly owned by Mrs. Daniel T. (Sally Stephens) Polke, and one of the entries is for Mary A.C. Stephens born Nov 28, 1844, married Daniel T. Polke. The bible entries details death dates for parents Jasper and Jane Stephens, and eleven children (Mary included), including two sets of twins. Let me know if you need this information, and I'll transcribe it.

This is the only entry for Mary or Daniel.

Polk records in "History of Webster County":

1 -- D.T. Polk is pastor of Mt. Pisgah Church (now Weston Baptist Church) when it was created in 1899 (p.96-7).

2 -- Page 388 has biographical entry on John Thomas Polk Sr, parents Mollie Stephens Polk and missionary baptist preacher Daniel T. Polk.

3 -- P. 457-8 has bio of Woodham family (Edna Woodham married John Thomas Polk).

4 -- Page 36 discusses the Leverette Communtiy, which became a flag station for the railroad, and among the Section Foremen was Luscious Polke.

5 -- Page 232-3 has the history of the Thomas Griffin Deckle family, which includes a Maggie Mae who married Luscious Ambrose Polke (born 1879) and their children.

Since these are quite lengthy, let me know if you want them, and send me your email -- I'll scan the pages and send them to you.

I have Daniel and wife mary along with all four children listed.
Strangley, all census are found except for the 1900
I found the 1910 stewart ga... and other census prior, but never the 1900. Anyway, Are you mainly interested in only the children? Or families prior to marriage on both parts, or children and marriage with children?

I do not want to delve into records you already are aware of, repeating what info. you already obtain.

The book is really just a compilation of local family histories. I would say take any information with a grain of salt.

In fact, the record pertaining to my husband's family is riddled with errors. It was written by his grandmother, who got her own date of marriage wrong! No fact checkers for this book -- double check everything!

Sorry! That information is not in the book. This is the only reference to Alexander Hamilton Stephens in the entire book, and it is on page 388.

"John Thomas Polk, Sr., or "uncle Johnny" as he was affectionately called by his friends was born February 2, 1870 in Terrell County six miles from Parrott, Georgia of distinguished ancestry, being the great-nephew of alexander Hamilton Stephens, Vice-President of the Confederacy. His mother Mollie Stephens Polk was the niece of the Confederate Vice-President..."

The Webster County History book (published 1980) says it is about 4 miles from Richland, GA. If you leave Richland on Nicholson St., east, you come to a road on the left by a small house (County Road 123). Down this road is Enterprise Church. The cemetery should be on the right, I think about half a mile up from the church (I don't have the book with me right now).

Are you researching the Nicholson family??

Hi mizbev,
The lady I was in contact with regarding the cemetery lived in that county and made a trip to the cemtery to verify what she could regarding the graves. The land had been logged and the cemetery virtually destroyed by the loggers (same sad story as many others) She told me that Aquilla Dyess had at one time lived there near the cemetery and it is named after him. At one time it was thought that he was buried there but since he is easily documented documented for many years after that we know that he, nor his wife Rachael, were buried there. He is the same Aquilla Dyess that moved to Henry County, Alabama. His daughter, Harriett Susan Dyess was my great grandmother. There are a whole lot of Thomases in the Dyess clan and I know that some of them moved on to Mississippi and others moved from there to Texas. There has been extensive research done on them and I am a member of the Dyess Web Site. If you are interested, let me know and I will put you in contact with them.

I don't have any information about the cemetery but wondered if it was named after Aquilla Dyess who moved to Henry Co., Alabama and lived with his family there in 1870 next to some of my Joneses who went from Clay Co., GA to Henry Co. I don't know if it would help you any to know that if you did not already but thought I would mention him.

My great-something aunt Nancy Jenkins married Thomas Dyess but I have not done any extensive research on that couple yet, just know they moved to Mississippi or Louisiana and then on the Rusk County Texas, which is where my Joneses eventually settled as well as in Smith Co.

Johnson/ McNeil

My great-grandfather was Robert Nick Johnson, son of Andrew Johnson and Anna Jane Black Johnson. Nick had a son named Robert Ross Johnson, born in Webster County Ga. in 1890. I have the death certificate for Robert Ross, that list Molly McNeil as his mother. Molly has always been a mystery. Family history that has been passed down says that her father was a doctor. I have never been able to prove this.
There is a Molly-Mollie McNeil listed in the 1870 Webster County Census. Her father is Larkin McNeil. Molly had a sister named Henrieta (Etta) that married Lucious Johnson. Lucious was the brother of my great grand=father Robert Nick Johnson. Is there anyone that knows who Molly, daughter of Larkin may have married? I find no record of her after 1880. If she married Nick, she would have died in 1890. Thanks

I am looking for information regarding John Spivey Eiland (b. 5 Jul 1839, d. 19 Oct 1868, m. to Sarah Jane Monk).

I read a story that John was killed during a robbery of a jewelry store in 1868 at the age of 29. This apparently occurred in Preston, Georgia.

Does anyone have any further informational about this? Perhaps there was a newspaper that carried the story?

Also, I have not been able to locate where John Spivey Eiland is buried. Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
