Velma E. Beckner, age 89 of Baxter Springs, Ks passed from this life Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Emerald Pointe Galena, Ks.
Velma was born April 3, 1920 in Hastings Iowa tot eh union of Allen Byron and Allie Florence (Reed) Smith.
She was united in marriage to Sanford N. Beckner on August 1, 1942 in Neosho, Mo.
She worked for Montgomery Wards in Fayetteville, Arkansas as an assistant personnel Manager.
She was a member of the 6th St. Baptist Church in Galena, Ks.
One of Velma's favorite hobbies was quilting.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include one daughter Joyce Burkybile of Galena, Ks; two sons James Beckner and William Beckner both of Carthage, Mo; one sister Venda Burch of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one niece Brenda Thiel of Fayetteville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Velma has been entrusted to Derfelt's Baxter Chapel for cremation.
