I have a large amount of information on the Effner family, esp the oldest two John Effner, born NJ, and the next one John married to Ida born in IL. The older John Effner was also married to Mrs. Minerva Johnson Henry by whom he had a child, Elizabeth Bedford Effner of Channahon, who married first, George Gates Sheldon by whom she had 6 children (this group goes back to the Mayflower). He died and she remarried Henry Konklin, and is buried next to him in Knox, Indiana. Elizabeth Effner is my great grandmother and I have copies of her photo album, her personal correspondence. The younger John Effner was known as Jack, and known as the Asparagus King of Illinois. My grandfather and my Dad worked for him during the depression. I have photographs and memorabilia.
I can see online on the northeastern counties postings 2 marriages for John Effner b NJ, and there is a third, mentioned above I have additional information about his other marriages as well.

John W. and some of his family are buried in a very small cemetery near me in Grundy Co., IL. Hopefully, I'll soon be able to post pics of the gravestones there. Trying to get my taxes done first! I'd be interested in additional info about the Hinch family that you have from generations further back; if you are still interested. Thank you.

Steve,
My information on Bertha is kind of sketchy. I figure her birth date to be about 1859. I found the same death date that you have, and it is posible that is her. Her children seem to have married in Cook County, so it is reasonable to assume she lived the rest of her life there. I know that she was born in Germany but can't say for sure where. Her brother, William, my ancestor was born in Woltersdorf, Pommern, Germany. Bertha's father, John Frederick was born in Konigreich, Preusen, Germany . Her mother, Louise Summers (Sommers?) was born in Stendal, Konigreich, Preusen, Germany. Their passenger list calls it Prussia.
John Frederick Groth was born 7 Sept 1822 and died 24 July 1885 at Reddick, Ill. He is buried at Round Grove, Ce,, Livingston Co, Ill. beside his mother. Louise Groth was born 20 Sept 1824 and died 7 April 1902. There was not a burial space left beside her husband, so she is buried on John/Marie Both's lot in Goodfarm Cem Near Dwight, Livingston Co, Ill. She was living with them at the time. You can see their tombstones on Find A Grave.
I will help you check on Bertha. I work on one family for awhile and then another one. I got my start years ago when Marie Both's daughter and Anna Laase's daughter were still alive, but they didn't know much about Bertha. I guess that was because she lived in Chicago.
Please ask anything else, and I will try to help you. I live in Aransas Pass, Texas. Where do you live?
Anna Howard

Notice that Fredericks Groth's mother Christine (age75) is also on that list. She is buried in Round Grove Cemetery in Livingston Co, Ill. There must be an error on the tombstone because it lists her death as Nov. 16, 1864 when she did not arrive in the US until 1881. William Groth had come over aone in 1872 and his sisters Marie and Amelia came later that year.
The William Groth family left Illinois and finally ended up in Texas in 1907.
I have a wedding picture of Bertha and William Laase.
Kathy,

I had two (and perhaps more) direct ancestors that were living in Morris, Illinois when they were naturalized. The two were brothers and both served Illinois in the Civil War. Can you suggest a way that I could obtain copies of their naturalization records and records of intent? As you have stated that the records are unorganized, I am assuming that this is not a service the courthouse offers.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Mitch

This is all I have so far for the children of William Laase and Bertha Groth of N. Marshfield Avenue, in Chicago.

Walter August Laase 13 Feb 1884 – 1962
Ewald Laase 1890
Bertha F. Laase 1893
Edna Laase 1896
Leonard C Laase 1900

I'd love any information you have on the Groth's. Do you know if Bertha had a sister that also married a Laase? Do you know when the came to the US. I saw a ship's manifest from I believe 1881 that listed a group of Groth's and Bertha listed that as the year she came.

I also have to track down a relative on my wife's side that is a daughter of Edna Laase.

Eventually I would like to have that information on Bertha's other sisters. I have the information on my ancestor, William Groth and a lot on their sister Marie Both. What can I help you with?
Anna Howard

The posting I saw tonight is eleven years old. You may not be looking any longer. No, I don't think there is relationship with the Rossio family I am descended from in the Carbon Hill, Il area. If you are still looking, check in with Michelle Micetich at the Carbon Hill Museum. I think she knows everything about that area.

Hello Sue,

After a long vacation from my genealogy searches, I just returned to the site for Coal City genealogy and saw your response to one of my queries. We are definitely in the same family. My grandmother, Barbara Planeta Tatro was a sister to your grandmother, Mary. I remember visiting Mary and her husband "Bunny" at their home in Coal City as a child. Ironically I just decided to type in the Planeta name into the computer in Coal City and the obituary for your grandfather came up. I had actually forgot that I had posted the query. I have been concentrating on my father's side of the family for the past couple of years, but I am re-energized for the Planeta hunt. I don't know what information you have, but I would be happy to share. I have the information about the immigration of our great grandfather, the date, the ship, and who came with him. I do remember some of the brothers of our grandmothers. Muxie's real name was actually William. He married a woman by the name of Edna and they both eventually died in Florida. I am not in the right program right now, but I have more information about the rest of the family. I am especially interested in obtaining a photo of out great grandparents Frank and Barbara Planeta. My grandmother had no photos of her family. Please let me hear from you.

Jolene Shay Hartje

I am looking for the birthdate of Edith Gertrude Webb, her parents were Vernon Witt Webb and Minnie Roberta Elam. they were married in 1910 and moved to Grundy Co. Ill. They had 5 children, Manford, Rachael, Edith, Fern, Aubrey.
The paperwork I have says Edith was born in Grundy, I am not sure about the rest of them. The family did move back to TN before the 1930 census.

Also after she left Vernon Redell Cook she moved back to Verona, Ill to live. That would have been in about 1959 she had 2 boys with her as the others were older. I don't know if she remarried again or not. The post in Rootsweb says that she married and Mr. Johnson. But that is all.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lavania

In my replies about Bertha Severson not being in the Braceville/ Gardner cemetery postings. I was told to ask Deb H.if this was an oversight. She is buried there as I have visited the Cemetery several times. Any reply would be helpful.Bertha was intered in 1918 or 19

Bob Severson

Hi Dave- No, I have not worked on the Burger family for a couple of years. I left the issue of who was Barbara's mother pretty much where it was, and never did find for certain where John's mother was buried.

I agree with you that the marriage record seems to be a more reliable source, but still don't feel certain enough to change the entire family line!

I'd love any further information you may have uncovered on this family.

I'm not sure if you are still researching the Battersby family, but my great grandmother, Alice Shaylor, was Edith Shaylor's (wife of James Battersby) sister. I have found some links to the Battersby family and my grandfather had a great memory for the names of most of Edith's children. Let me know if I can help you with any info.

Kendra:

Have you made any progress regarding Anna Maria (BURKHARDT) BURGER's place of burial? I have a renewed interest in this information.

As to your issue about Barbara BURGER's DOB and mother, I would take the marriage record over the census and what someone remembered for a biographical sketch any day of week.

Dave

Might check with genweb site co-ordinator Deb Haines or ask Deb how to contact Mark Hahn
Kathy
