I'm trying to help a friend find out what happened to her grandmother. Sara E Copeland married Albert Evers in Metropolis and had one daughter, Eunice M Evers (Meyer) who was born 10/7/02. Apparently, Sara disappeared sometime around 1914. She was a RN. Does anyone have any information that could help?

Sarah Elizabeth Copeland was the mother of Tressa Myrtle Hitchcock (b.Nov 27, 1877 in Massac Co.) and (died Feb 06, 1914).
Tressa Married John Hille, they had one son, Lewis G Hille.
Tressa and Albert Evers (2nd husband) were the parents of a son and Eunice Evers (b. 1902 Massac Co.)
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the information! Tressa's granddaughter was always told her grandmother disappeared around 1914, when Eunice was 12. Do you know where she died and/or is buried? I didn't find her near her parents, husband or infant son. The story was that she ran away, maybe to Detroit. I'll pass this information on to my friend, I know she will appreciate it as she has spent her life wondering what happened to her grandmother!
Thanks again!

Deena,
Thank you so much for the information! You have made my elderly friend very happy. It would be great if you could find the death certificate. She also didn't know that her grandmother had been married before or that she had another uncle. Do you have any information on the Hille family or what happened to them? Once again, thank you, I wish you could have seen my friend's face when I relayed your information!
Pam Reinke (I tried to e-mail this but it came back)

I too am a descendant of the Copeland family and also have family buried at Lower Salem Cemetery in Massac Co., IL. I was just in Massac County last week and plan to be there again later this week. Would you like for me to make a picture of the tombstones you are interested in? I have a digital and it wouldn't be any trouble. Your friend might enjoy a copy of the book titled Some Copeland and Little Families by A. Lucille Harney and Fairline Bigley. One of the ladies has passed away earlier this year but I believe the Massac County library would be able to help with the purchasing information.
I can also copy excerpts from the book for you if it will help.

That would be great! The person I'm most interested in is (Tressey) Tressa Myrtle Hitchcock. daughter of Frances B. Hitchcock and Sarah E. Copland. She was born 11/29/1877 and married 1. John Hille and 2. Albert Evers. Any info would be wonderful!
Thanks!!!

I have several more generations for Sarah E. Copeland. Her father and mother were Catherine Elkins and Alfred Copeland. Catherine was a daughter of Sarah Graves and William Elkins. William was a son of John and Elizabeth (Stiles) Elkins. Sarah Graves was a daughter of John S. Graves.
Alfred Copeland was a son of John C. Copeland and Sarah Short. John C. Copeland and his wife Sarah are buried on my families farm in Massac County, IL. Their graves are located high on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River. I do have pictures of their graves if you would like a copy of that. I made the pictures in Jan of 2006 and they are hard to read but this winter I want to get back there with a can of shaving cream. It will lighten the etching in the stone and make a better picture.
Your John C. Copeland and my Sarah Sally Copeland were children of William and unkown. John C. was born Sept. 30, 1775 in Hillsboro, Loudoun Co., VA and he died Jan. 2, 1853, Massac County, IL. John's sister Sarah Sally Copeland was born 1786, Loudoun Co., VA and she died after Dec. 19, 1850 in Massac Co., IL.
William Copeland was born about 1754 in Londonderry, Ireland and died June 1822 in Vienna, Johnson Co., IL. He married Jane Gamble about 1774. William is buried on the Alfred Hook farm in Johnson Co., IL. William served in the Revolutionary War. I have about 4-5 pages of information out of the Copeland book that I can send to you if you want it.
William was a son of David Copeland and Deborah Unkown. David was born about 1720 Londonderry, Ireland and he died February 9, 1796 in Hillsboro (the gap), Loudoun Co., VA. He married Deborah (his second wife) about 1753 in Londonderry, Ireland. Deborah was born in Londonderry, Ireland and died Feb. 9, 1806 in Loudoun Co., VA. There are several pages on this family at the beginning of the Copeland and Little Family book by A. Lucille Harney and Fairline Bigley. Your friend might really want to purchase this book since there is so much history of her family in it.
If I can help let me know. My address is 4354 Quality Rd., Lewisburg, Ky. 42256.

I to have Copeland ancestors. The infomation you provided was very useful for me. For years I have been trying to sort out confusion in my family which has ties to both Copelands and Criders. Copelands and Criders tie together several different times. Thank you for your posting.
