Seeking any information on Raymond C. VAN BROGEN, son of Henry and Mary B. (Clark) VAN BROGEN, born in or near Leighton, Mahaska County, probably around 1914. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy in the 1930s then joined the Merchant Marine and was killed in action aboard the oiler SS Caddo in the north Atlantic, 1942. His parents lived in Oskaloosa during the war. Others in the family lived in Pella. A grave marker in Raymond's memory was placed at the Pella cemetary. Seeking any info about his earlier days, possibly from former school mates or anyone who knew him or about him. Info desired for an in-depth article about the ordeal of the crew of the Caddo.
