DNA testing offers new hope for descendants of pioneer Harmon family members of Adair County, Kentucky. DNA testing results of a descendant of William Harmon and Sarah Pendleton Harmon who lived in Adair County reveal genealogical matches with descendants of Isaac Harman who lived in Virginia during the 18th century! This is very fascinating.
William Harmon is the presumed son of George Harmon. The George Harmon family probably came to Adair County from Virginia during the very early 19th century. Early Adair County records document the Harmon family. The 1810 Adair County census enumerates George Harmon. Early Adair County tax lists and marriage records document members of the Harmon family being a pioneer presence! The earliest Harmons settled along Green River.
The 1829 will of my ancestor, John Harmon, is the first Harmon will recorded in Adair County will books. John is also the presumed son of George Harmon. John married Mary Pendleton in 1812, Adair County. Mary is the daughter of John and Elizabeth Pendleton, all natives of Virginia.
I would like to communicate with anyone who has any information about ancestors and descendants of the early Harmon families of Adair County. A consensus of researchers is that most Harmons of Adair County are descendants of the earliest Harmons who arrived in Adair County. With new DNA testing results, the Harmon family genealogy may be developed further in time beyond when Harmon ancestors came to Adair County!
