I am going to be traveling to your area in July to work on genealogy research. Quite honestly, I'm not very familiar with researching church records and have no idea where to begin. I'm trying to get a better idea of where to look when I get to your area, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed. When I looked in the UMC directory, I was amazed that there were so many UMC churches within Louisville, let alone the surrounding area! (The UMC church in which I belong has one pastor that we share with another congregation in our charge! :-)

I know that a couple in the family I am researching was married by a Methodist Episcopal Minister by the name Geo. W. Miles in 1847 of Bullitt County. I have no idea where in the county AND I know that this family lived in both Bullitt and Jefferson Counties during that general time period.

How do I narrow down which church or churches would be more likely to have records possibly pertaining to my ancestors? Is there anything online that could help me determine which specific church or churches in the area were ministered by Rev. Miles during that time period?

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Sirs:
I am completing a book on a small rural church in Western North Carolina. The Rev. George W. Miles was very influential in that area. He was a D. S. of the Holston Conference. He was active in the Grayson, Wythe and Smyth COunties of Virginia and Ashe and Alleghany counties of North Carolina. He was buried in Round HIll Cemetery in Smyth County Virginia. I would delight in helping you with any other information regarding the Rev. Miles.

All I know is a George W. Miles married a couple I am researching in Bullitt County, Kentucky. I was hoping that somehow I could find out more information about this couple if I could find out where specifically in Bullitt County Miles preached. The Methodist Episcopal church is a "ancestor" so to speak of the present day United Methodist Church. If I can determine where he preached, I was HOPING that there may be some sort of records on this family I am researching through the church. It is a long shot, but I'm patient and have already invested 15 years researching this line,....to the point that I feel like I am grasping at straws.

Anything that you could tell me about him that relates to Bullitt Co., KY would be very much appreciated. I can be reached directly at: abcm191c@one-eleven.net

Thank you,
