I would be interested in what you know about this orphanage. My grandmother was placed in a Catholic Orphanage in Louisville, KY when she was about 10 years old (1923-1925). She was there for 7 years. Her brothers (all younger) were taken to the Baptist home in Louisville and they reunited after they were all grown. I'm trying to locate information during that time period. All I know is Catholic Home in Louisville.
Thanks,
Cheryl Markham

I am researching my Vanhorn line of KY and believe that my line is siblings with your Jesse Vanhorn.

All are found together in Pendleton County KY circa 1800. Several abandon KY circa 1807 for the areas around Columbus Ohio.

So far the sibling/cousin list looks like this:

- Walter Vanhorn of Columbus Franklin Cty Ohio who married Hope White
- Elizabeth Moore-Vanhorn of Warren Cty Indiana who married James Moore (Walter names her in his will as a sibling)
- Thomas Moore of Marion Cty Ohio who married Sarah Wyatt (Thomas and Sarah's first two children are Walter and Elizabeth and he is in Pendleton prior to Ohio)
- Possibly Ezekiel Vanhorn of Delaware Cty Ohio (there is Pendleton and moves to Ohio circa 1807.)

You can see these branched landed in Ohio. Walter's niece comes to live with him when he is dying she was born in ky AFTER every one moved to Ohio telling me that there is a Vanhorn who stayed (per Walters will). Jesse was in Pendleton along with the rest until he moved to neighboring Campbell Cty. Eziekel had property in Campbell and it is possible that Jesse purchased the land from him). I believe your Jesse had a daughter who is Eliza Vanhorn born 1823 KY who married James F. Kelly in Fanklin County Ohio and was taking care of her uncle Walter. Walter was childless. She inherited his property.
Archibald Mann -- son Samuel, b. 1815 married a Vanhorn (Van Horn)

All I know is the older children of Archibald Mann and Sabina Tarvin were born in Campbell Co Ky.

One of the children, Samuel Mann, b. 1815
married a Vanhorn Van Horn. Possibly Jesse Vanhorn's daughter or sister, as he was a local landowner near the Mann family. I am looking for apparently obscure information -- and mostly what I want to know is if Samuel Mann had any children.

Mann's owned a farm on the line between Kenton Co and Campbell Co., but moved the family to Moral, IN in Shelby Co. I was told by a librarian they might have moved there with the Quakers for safety.

I am not sure Samuel moved since he might have been old enough to stay in KY if he so chose.

Suzy Wert
Indianapolis

Yes, 12 Mile Creek was originally called Wells Creek. There is still a small branch of 12 Mile Creek's headwaters which is shown on the maps as Wells Creek. Samuel Belville's land was a couple miles up 12 Mile Creek from it's mouth. Near the Island Cemetery. Several years ago I was taken to the top of a nearby hill where it is thought Samuel Belville is buried but there was no marker.

That is the correct information for this Rees Gaddis. He married the Widow Perry. She was the owner of what was called the Perry Ferry which crossed the Ohio River from Campbell County to the town of Columbia, OH. This town was in the area of Lunken Airport and it's cemetery is still being maintained as a historic site. I have not been able to locate the exact landing place for the ferry on the River in Campbell County but believe it was in the area of the Tower Hill Rd. Rt. 8 intersection.

Yes, both cemeteries are across the road from the 12 mile Baptist Church. If there was a recent burial, I'm sure it was in the cemetery on top of the hill which is variously called the Carmack or Truesdal family cemetery. The owners of the land adjoining both cemeteries have had them surveyed and are now in separate parcels from the rest of their property. The correct name for the road is Oneonta. The cemeteries lie on the south side of that road between Stone House Rd. (use to be 4 & 12 Mile) and Washington Trace Rd.

Buck

If you go to the Clerks Office in Alexandria you will find a Court Order Book #3 but if you look at the final entry in Book #2 you will see that the first entry in Book #3 is 2 or 3 years later.
Looking for information on my Vanhorn line. Related Vanhorns included

- Jesse Vanhorn of Campbell Cty KY who married Nancy Man

Most of the related Vanhorns moved to the areas around Columbus Ohio. Jesse likelyt had a daughter who is Eliza Vanhorn born 1823 KY who married James F. Kelly in Fanklin County Ohio and was taking care of her uncle Walter. Walter was childless. She inherited his property after his death only to day some 10 years later at a young age.
To my knowledge, there was never a large record loss (such as a courthouse fire) in Campbell Co. I spoke w/our GenWeb coordinator, Shirlene Jensen, who voiced the same thought, but she did add one item of interest to this question: There are stories stating that some county records were sent to Frankfort during the Civil War, and maybe not returned. This, however has not been proven. The existing record books don't seem to have any large gaps, but there are a few that I've never seen an index for.

Can anyone else weigh in on this topic?

Jan

Unfortunately, Michael, I doubt that I have any information that will help you, as I am very new at geneaology research. However, I have seen your postings on the internet at different sites and have read over some of the responses you have received from other people. Though I don't recognize many of the names, I can't help but wonder if we are related in some way , mostly because of our common surnames and because of the geographical area your research stems from. Anyway, I thought I would write and see what you might be able to tell me.
I am trying to find out more about my father's side of the family, which I know very little about. My father's name was Joseph Edward Fender (Ed). He was born to Albert and Marie Fender in Ross, Kentucky in 1934, lived for some time in Melbourne, Kentucky, and then moved to Florida where he passed away in 1996. He had sisters, all of whom I believe are still living: Faye, Sue, Mary Lou and Vicki. Though I am not currently in contact with any of them, I am working on that.
I am especially interested in finding out more about my grandparents, Albert and Marie, and their ancestors. My grandfather, Albert, lived from 1905 to 1974. He had a twin sister, Alma (who may have married an Uebel,) sisters Fannie, Mae and JoAnn, and brothers, Edward and maybe, Bud. I believe that Edward died in his early twenties.
My grandmother, Marie, lived from 1907 to 1999. I believe her maiden name may have been Reichert, but I am unsure of the spelling. She and her sister, Elsie, spent at least part of their childhood in St. Joseph's orphanage in Cinncinati, Ohio. I believe they may have also had a brother, John.
If you see any connection between this information and your research, please let me know. Also, I would be interested to know what other Pfender's are buried at the Alexandria cemetary, if you happen to know. I have read about the various Fender groups (Finter, Pfender, etc.) on the internet and I have no idea where I fit in. Any tips you might have about finding out more would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck with your research and thank you in advance!
A grandson of Isaac Dye married my great-grandmother's cousin, so I've done a little research into the family.

From the Campbell County genweb: (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kycampbe/johndye.htm)

"Isaac Dye was born and reared in Middlesex county, New Jersey, where he married Martha Perrine on February 19th, 1794, and where several children were born. In 1805, in company with his family and that of his father-in-law, he emigrated to New Bethel, Ohio, but not long afterward he located near what is now Cold Springs, Campbell county, Kentucky, and engaged extensively in farming, being among the pioneer families of Campbell county. He continued farming for a number of years and then located in Newport and became engaged in the coal business, which he continued until his death, which occurred in the '50s, his wife having preceded him by several years. They were the parents of eleven children, none of whom are living at the present time."

Sadly, the bio continues with only one of the eleven children of Isaac's, his son John and with John's three male children.

Perhaps Mary McHATTON is a granddaughter of Isaac Dye from one of the remaining ten children. This may explain the confusion on her maiden name.

As you might know James McHatton & Catherine Dye married in Campbell Co. on 22 March 1827 and had two children: John J. McHatton (who first married Mary Stanly/Stanely in Cambell Co. 27 June 1857 and then married Floretta Dameon) and Mary Ann.

Where James fits in the McHatton line remains an open question. In the early 1800's all the McHattons in Kentucky are believed to belong to the same line & some would say two lines but they are pretty well recorded.

It seems to me that the best fit for James is as a son of John Mchatton and Nancy Rees who married 22 Sept 1803 in Campbell Co. and divorced 19 Dec 1821. Nancy can be found on the 1830 census and had sons James & John McHatton.

Again where possible father John McHatton fits is an open question. David Kincaid shows John McHatton who married Nancy Rees as a son of John McHatton (1740-1831) & Mary Lytle (1744-1826). We know that this John, son of John & Mary, married Nancy Denny and had a large family. I have seen a couple of dates (1811 & 1815) for the death of Nancy Denny but I have not seen any source for these dates. I am not sure that the record support this theory. Nancy Rees and John McHatton were married in 1803 before Nancy Denny is said to have died and the 1830 & 1840 census after the divorce shows a wife.

As you can see more research on this line is needed.

Hi Junetta. I am not related to your family but I did some checking around. There are MANY records at the Campbell County website:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kycampbe/

I found many entries listing Constantine KAMMERER and his wife as Mary THEONY/THOENY/THEONI etc. I did see where her death cert. listed the father as John. Maybe the informant on the death cert. was not thinking clearly and made a mistake.

Check it out. On the first page of the website if you scroll down a little on the left there is a search box.

Margaret

Did any of these TIBBATTS have a son named Hermann TIBBATTS. He probably lived near Newport, Campbell County, KY in 1910 and was born ca 1887 or before in KY.
