I have a hunch that a hole branch of my family is buried there, but I can't find any records to confirm it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Richard

I am looking for any information on a Jerome Gray who was born about 1895 or 1896. He had a son named Jack Dale Gray who was born in 1928 or 1929. Jerome Gray died in May of 1929 or 1930 in Dunsmuir, CA. He died of spinal meningitis according to the newspaper article that I was able to retrieve. Jerome was married to Norma Mottern who had a daughter named Norma when she and Jerome married. Jack D. Gray was born in Lewiston, Idaho. He was born on 9/22/1928 or 1929. He was my father. I am so interested in learning about his family history because it was also so important to him, but of course, in the early 1980's, computers were not the norm. Please let me know if you have any information. Thank you so much.

Linda S. McKinney

I am showing an S. (Sylvester?) Evans b abt 1834 listed as a son of Elijah Evans B abt 1795 and Matilda Moore-Evans. Does anyone know anything about S. Evans? A Harrison Ross Porter and his wife 'Betsy' Forbis-Porter was found listed in Elijah Evan's household in the 1850 Laurel Co KY Census. 'Betsy' Forbis who married Harrison Roos Porter is a sister of my gggrandmother Anna Forbis-Henson. My gggrandparents George W Henson b abt 1799 NC and Anna Forbis-Henson sold their last remaining 50 acres of land in Jackson Co KY in 1859 to a John 'Jack?'Evans. George and Anna Henson moved to Webster/Maries Co MO in 1860. Do you, or anyone researching the Evans line, know anything about John 'Jack' Evans of Jackson Co KY? Thanks for sharing. 'R.E.' Is there any chance Kizzie connects into the Ward family in the original post? Even after she retired, she continued to play for services at the Fairfield Pavillion provided by the Fairfield Church of the Nazarene. She touched countless lives with her music playing for services and weddings throughout the community. Mrs. Drake also served the community by working as the assistant administrator of the Butler County Care Facility from 1972 until her retirement in 1997. In 1997, Mrs. Drake was honored for her lifetime of service to the residents of Butler County. Mrs. Drake is survived by two daughters, Karen L. (John) Pond of Birmingham, AL and Elizabeth A. (Tim) Peters of Hamilton, OH; three sons, John "Hodge" (Diane) Drake of Clarksville, OH, David W. (Lanita) Drake of Fairfield, OH and Stephen Drake of Fairfield. Mrs. Drake was blessed to have 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Drake had two sisters, June Winkler and Vernell Baecker; and three brothers, Harold Simpson, Vernon Simpson and Wayne Simpson, all of Hamilton. Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her parents; brother Kenneth Ward and a daughter Susan Lynn Drake. Upon her retirement in 1997 from the Butler County Care Facility, Mrs. Drake was quoted as saying, "It is, after all, what we give of ourselves that gives people who are lonely and hurting the security and compassion they need... and we will all need one day." It is with these words in mind that the children of Mrs. Drake would like to offer our sincerest thanks to the employees of Avalon at the Atrium, Davita Dialysis, and the Fairfield Pavillion for the same compassion and security offered to our mother. The family suggests memorial contributions to Butler County Care Facility Residents Activities, 1800 Princeton Road, Hamilton, OH 45011. Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton, at 2pm on October 22, 2009 with Pastor Dan McDowell officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Family and friends will be received prior to the service from 12-2pm at the funeral home.
John MURPHY, Sand Gap whittler

I'm looking for any first hand info on my uncle, John Murphy (my namesake) who lived in Sand Gap. I recall visiting as a child, but don't have much info to go on. I should've listened more when my parents told me about him as a child. He was probably born around the turn of the 20th century...maybe a little later.

I remember he whittled and carved amazing things like small plow and oxen hanes replicas, and always had a bunch of "whirlygigs" and other cool stuff he'd create out of bent tin, many from old tin cans. He had a workshop by the house that'd he'd do all his carving in. I recall that he lived up on top of the mountain and had an aluminum or iron gate to get into his yard. The yard itself was pretty bare, mostly sandstone with little grass. He had an outhouse that sat on top of a crevice in the rocks...that was so cool. :)

I wish I had more to go on, and plan on interviewing some family members in the near future, but wanted to throw a feeler out there and see if any Jackson County, Kentucky folks were familiar with my Uncle John first hand. Thanks in advance.

--Doug Lamb

Spiratewing,

Harrison Patrick was a brother to my grandmother, Laura Frances Murphy. She died before I was born, but I remember seeing Harrison Patrick once or twice at the Murphy reunions we used to attend every year in Richmond, KY when I was a kid in the 1970's. It was always held at the city park on Lancaster Avenue. I never really paid attention to the "old people" but now I wish I had. Here's what I have:

138. Harrison Patrick7 Murphy (Nancy Jemima6 Webb, Christopher Columbus5, Joseph4, William3,
Elisha2, John1) was born 1905 in Jackson Co. ,KY, and died 1981 in Florida. He married (1) Ethel Taylor,
daughter of Enoch Taylor and Dora Kelly. She was born Jul 24, 1914, and died Jun 30, 1986 in Fruitland Park,
FL. He married (2) Bertha Bowlin Sep 1926. She was born 1906, and died 1936 in Madison Co., KY.
More About Harrison Patrick Murphy:
Burial: 1981, Red Hill Cem. College Hill, Madison Co., KY
Children of Harrison Murphy and Ethel Taylor are:
369 i. Dora Ellen8 Murphy.
370 ii. William Ray Murphy.
371 iii. Harriet Beecher Murphy.
Children of Harrison Murphy and Bertha Bowlin are:
+ 372 i. Leroy8 Murphy, born Sep 03, 1927.
373 ii. James Elmore.
374 iii. Aileen Murphy, born 1936.

This info came from a PDF document with some very well documented stuff, but I'm not sure who the author is/was. I'll be happy to send it to you. E-mail me at spotcheck at gmail dot com if you'd like.

I'm really amateur at genealogy, but have been working mostly on the Lamb line. However, I want to learn more about the Murphy side of things as well. Drop me an e-mail if I can be of assistance.

--Doug Lamb
