I too, have hit a wall searching for John Hoover's parents. I will let you know if I find anything. I am descended from him through his son Abraham and have solid documentation until I come to John's parents. His father may have immigrated from Germany and went by the name Huber when he entered the country. Many Germans named Huber immigrated to PA during the time frame before 1755.

My grandmother told me when I was a little girl (1950's) that the Hoover's were considered Pennsylvania Dutch . I didn't know what that meant and thought she meant Holland Dutch. She did say that her grandmother Mary Jane Hoover Marsh spoke German.
