Thanks, Janice! Unfortunately, being in Vermont I can't get to see the book and I have tried to find it through interlibrary loans and used bookstores without any success. My sister lives in Columbus, Ohio so she might get over there to see it. It sounds promising. My grandfather was James Luther Pirtle (b.1887) and his father was Abel Pirtle (b. 1806) both listed as born in Kentucky but that is as far as I can get. Your information may give me some leads though.
